Unbelievable! I have much more expensive Wolfgangs And the bumble bee Evh stripped series, and this guitar is a major improvement over the other overseas Wolfgangs and the previous peavey. Those guys over at Fender have really tapped into all of the qualities that make a great guitar and what we already love about The Wolfgang and put it into this guitar. If you like the original music man Axis but didn't like the weird neck shape and flat top, non contoured forearm rest, then this is the winner all the way. My favorite thing(s) about this guitar... The EVH Wolfgang Pickups! Holy cow balls I can sit on that neck pick up and play all day and all night.
Hope this helped make your disision guys. Happy shredding.

I want to follow up my previous review. I played the guitar a lot more the day after I wrote my original review when I was more awake and noticed yet again, a lot of buzzing in several spots up and down the neck. The guitar was looked at by a luthier and I was told it would need a full fret level. He told me to return it. The buzz could not be dialed out by string height or relief. At 5/64 off the 12th fret on the low E and 4/64 off the 12th fret on the high E with .010mm relief at the 8th fret parts of the guitar sounds like a sitar due excessively high frets. The neck is not twisted either. This is 4 in a row that had some sort of an issue, mostly with bad fretwork and/or dings and dents.

Also out of the 3 guitars I ordered I asked for no special handling so the boxes should have been sealed from the factory. Every guitar I got was opened and resealed. The original brown tape was cut and was re-tapped with clear tape on top of it. I'm not blaming MF but all of this didn't sit well with me. I talked to another dealer who told me that they have had issues with the EVH Wolfgang Standards and they sent four of them back to Fender and didn't even put them on sale on their website because of QC issues out of the box. So I'm hoping returned guitars aren't being sent back to Fender and then shuffled around and sent to other dealers as "new" stock...either way, something isn't right.

MF was great, I wound up ordering a Strat instead. I wanted to like the EVH Wolfgang and I gave it a shot and I thought I had the last one playing alright until I really sat with it and discovered it really wasn't alright.

I know people have bought them and had no issues and love them, consider yourself lucky. I'm done with them.

I added a star because the neck does feel great and the pickups sound great...they made the excessive buzzing sound very warm.

Comments about EVH Wolfgang Standard Electric Guitar:

I have played clubs for years. I bought this guitar because I bought a speaker I was not happy with and was told I could not return it. MF was kind enough to return for store credit only so I got this guitar. I own an Ernie Ball Axis ( also designed by EVH ) This is THE best guitar I have ever purchased in this price range. ( or twice the price for that matter) I have 13 other guitars as I have been playing for over 40 years. This thing is AWESOME. It is my go to guitar now. The licensed Floyd rose is excellent. I check tuning a week after tuning and all 6 are either in tune or VERY close. Pickups are pretty good, but when A/B tested against my Ernie Ball there is a quality and warmth difference. VERY IMPORTANT to note : for a long time I did NOT believe these were the " Wolfgang pickup " That is in the American ones, but EVERYTHING out there, including people saying " you get the American Wolfgang pickup in a Import guitar . NOT TRUE ! It is a OK pickup but NOT the same as the American Wolfgang. To be fair the stock pickup does blow away the humbucker that is put in the bridge of an HSS Strat. If you want a VERY high quality guitar for a SUPER reasonable price, this is one great guitar. I will be upgrading to the American Wolfgang pickup, but I have had a great feeling about this guitar since I first took it out of the box ... AND I STILL DO !!! : )

Comments about EVH Wolfgang Standard Electric Guitar:

So here it is the evh wolfgang standard wg in trans black. Wel I am over the moon with this wolfgang. I have owned the evh mman and a 2010 evh wolfgang special but I had a real struggle with the 2010 special don't get me wrong it was a beautiful guitar but I just couldn't get used to the vintage small frets.this new wolfgang is spot on the jumbo frets and compound radius neck make playing this one a dream add to that the forearm cut and belly cut and we have a real winner. The evh Wolfgang pickups are amazing the clean tonesare bbreathtaking and with distortion look out. Harmonics are a breeze and the neck pickup is so warm the sustain is endless. So good work evh/fender for making a guitar that's pricing point in my opinion could be way higher. And it's definitely not just for evh fans this guitar is for all guitar lovers . as a side note my wolfgang needed no attention setup wise straight out of the box the action was just under 2/32 at the 12th fret on the high e string and not a hint of fret buzz to be found. The floyd special works like a treat returns to pitch every time. And the subtle trans black quilt top is amazing.

Well what can I say, A wonderful guitar all the way around, I'm sure some may see otherwise but for me it's worth every penny.

Solid Construction if you think because it's a basswood body that it would be lite guess again, This Axe has got some weight to it, it also add to the tonal resonace of the guitar.

The Neck is very fast, and feels like butter, I will say those with bigger hands may find this neck to be a bit of a pain, Average or smaller hands work great for this neck profile.

Hardware Soild no issues with tuning or inntonation.

Electronics this can scream or be warm and fuzzy depending on what you play, real nice punch back but warm for those blues runs, and real bite for Metal, no issues with the Pot's real smooth.

Over all the Beef and sound quality of a Les Paul, but the hard bite of a Strat type guitar and for the weight it's not Neck Heavy...

I got mine in Red, but will collect the other colors as well...

Good for just starting out or Advanced players..

Comments about EVH Wolfgang Standard Electric Guitar:

Was just adding to my collection with this guitar. Would give it 4 1/2 stars. When I first ordered it I thought it was made in Mexico, but sort of got bummed out when I found out it was made in Indonesia. (Note: The Wolfgang "Special" is crafted in Mexico, the "Standard" in Indo, Fender controls the quality of both from what I understand.)

Surprisingly, this is a good and well crafted/manufactured instrument. Wood is pretty high quality grain. Great paintwork on the transparent blue finish. Guitar has a lot of sharp resonance and bite with the maple fretboard.

It also has its own unique "feel". I'm not sure how the guitar would feel to a guitar player with small hands, but I have average hands and the guitar still feels like a toy. Or perhaps more appropriately compared to one of those little foreign sports cars. It's light compact and its weight is pretty well balanced. If you don't care for jumbo fretboards this guitar could be good for you.

The only problem with the guitar is fairly minor fretbuzz in all positions on the high E string and on the second fret of the low E. I could probably have it fixed by getting a pro to re-set up the action, but the buzzing kind of gives the guitar a little character.

Was also very pleased by the packing and shipping job from MF. Guitar arrived in less than a week. Protected by several layers of cardboard. Paperwork, allen wrench kit, whammy bar were all nicely bundled up.

I'm certainly interested in the Special now. Also looked into the EVH USA stuff, but confused that they don't offer maple fretboards since that was a VH trademark.

Comments about EVH Wolfgang Standard Electric Guitar:

Guitar was shipped in original box which I though strange from MF since every other guitar from them has come in a second box. The wolfgang played nice out of the box but the trem was so stiff I took it to a guitar shop to get setup. The springs were so tight they changed springs and set it up like EVH has in a / \ pattern with 2 springs. Trem is nice now but will see about tuning stability.

Comments about EVH Wolfgang Standard Electric Guitar:

I really have enjoyed playing my EVH Wolfgang. It's easy to play and has a great sound. The pick ups are hot and allow me to make the sounds I want while soloing. The only thing I would change is the Tremolo system. I'd rather have the Floyd Rose system that's on my Kramer. Other than that, it's a great guitar!

Comments about EVH Wolfgang Standard Electric Guitar:

MF had to send four of these for me to finally get one that didn't have some sort of issue. There were various QC issues with three of them, ranging from dents, dings, blemishes, sharp frets, excessive buzzing on the low E and A strings, glue on the fretboard, bumps on the back of the neck, etc...I'm really not that picky, I just don't want a new guitar that has the above listed issues. If I own a guitar for years and I put dings and dents in it, I don't care, that's the way it goes and I don't mind that. But for new out of the box, no dice, that doesn't work for me.

As far as playability, the guiar plays great once set up correctly...like any other guitar. People say it plays great out of the box with no buzzing...in my opinion, no, it really doesn't. I played three of these guitars locally before buying one through MF, all of them had moderate to heavy buzzing on the low E and A strings. All but the last one MF sent me had the same issue with buzzing. The one I kept buzzed on the low E and A but not as bad as the others I played. They need to have a proper setup and then they play great. For me I threw mixed gauge strings on it, D'Addario EXL125-3D 9-46, leveled the Floyd, gave it about .010mm relief at the 8th fret, and set the action on the low E a little above 4/64, almost 5/64, and that minimized alot of the buzzing on the low E and A strings. I don't like very low action so even 5/64 on the low E is fine for me. The guitars come set below 4/64 on the low E with very little relief, this works if the frets are all level, all of the ones sent to me had some high frets which is not unusual.

The guitar sounds great, I wasn't expecting a lot of versatility out of it, I have other guitars for that. The neck is like a rock, you could probably smack some baseballs around with it and it would stay in tune. The neck is not that thin either, it has some width to it, so don't expect a thin Ibanez Wizard type neck.

All in all a very nice guitar, just be aware you will need to set it up properly. If you play with tons of gain all of the time and/or don't mind, hear or care about the buzzing with the stock setup out of the box then by all means play it as is.
