A guitar classic that proves less is more.
The Fender '50s Esquire Electric Guitar is the electric guitar that started it all. Originally released in 1950, it was Leo Fender's first marketed design. The single-pickup precursor to the Telecaster, the Esquire features an ash body, maple neck, vintage-style bridge with steel saddles, volume, tone, and a 3-way quick tone-change switch.
3-way switching
The 3-way toggle switch gives you 3 preset tones. In the bridge position the pickup is only connected to the volume control (the tone control is disconnected). This minimal circuitry provides more top-end sparkle than a Telecaster. In the middle position the standard tone control circuit is activated and it functions just like any other tone control. In the neck position the tone control is disengaged, but a tone-shaping capacitor is added that rolls off a lot of the top end and some of the bottom. This setting produces darker tone along with slightly less volume.

My '89 Standard Telecaster was stolen last year and I just purchased this Mexican made Esquire a month ago. I am in love with this guitar! The workmanship is very good and the transparent white finish stands out from other run-of-the-mill Fender colors. The stock pickup isn't bad, but I ordered a Rio Grande Tallboy p/u for a little more punch. Now it kicks on everything from country to hard rock. I think the Esquire is a superior guitar to the Telecaster. The three way tone switch gives you most of the tonal colors you need, and I always though that neck pickup on the Telecaster was a useless appendage. I never used the neck pickup on my old Tele. I like this arrangement much better, and it also makes the Esquire alot lighter. My only complaint is the price. It's a bit much for a single-pickup guitar.

Yeah, it's not a '55 but. Holy Sh#t," it plays incredibly and stays in tune. I think they use the Pleck system because the action is perfect. The blonde finish is just right too. Great sound especially with distortion. What a value!Same as the real thing.Great!

this is my first Fender guitar.I have owned it for 3 years now.I have grown to love this simple guitar.It arrived with a chip on the back .The thing was unplayable when it arrived.Immediately had a pro set up done.Changed nut to bone. The neck is awesome and the maple board is fast.Easy to play.Strings never break and the the thing stays in tune. Precise.The pickguard sucks. A total ugly piece of plastic which I immediately replaced.The stock saddles sucked too. The strings moved too much screwing with the string width.After getting all the bugs out...awesome guitar.It can be a screamer. a clucky twanger, a creamy jazzer or even steel like tones. I like the pick up.Just pick your spot and dial her in. Made in Mexico value with good workmanship. A little expensive in my opinion for such a simple piece of wood.

The neck is fat (which I love) and the smaller FB radius is really easy for chord work. The frets could be slightly taller for my taste, but the neck plays so well that it isn't an issue. I set this up with 11's and it plays just as easy as my Mex. standard with 10's. The body is very light weight and resonant. I did put compensated saddles on it to help the intonation. The electronics are great. The factory pickup is fairly low output (which I prefer) and the volume and tone controls seem to have a wider smoother range than any other guitar I own or have owned (which is well over 20). Oh and I absolutely love the blonde finish.

This is the best guitar I've ever played or owned, and I've owned many decent guitars over the 6 years I've been playing. Put it this way- I prefer this over my Rickenbacker 330. I have the White Blonde model, which I wasn't crazy about the finish at first, but it did grow on me quickly. The neck is easily the best I've experienced (I've also played the A.V.R.I. '52 Telecaster). The controls are very simple, but by no means "primitave" or "outdated". It's simple- volume and tone. What more do you need??? Everything is just fab. Amazing tone, Twangy, not ear murdering high(Many seem to believe this), the dark circuit on overdrive or fuzz sounds like no other guitar I've heard, finish shos the grain of the ash body Tuners work well, they do their job to hold tune well(remember, its similar to the telecaster; having the three saddle bridge, it's impossible to perfectly inntonate it). The inntonation ain't perfect, but it's pretty close to perfect. I did experience the typical loose Telecaster input jack- not a major problem, ahd it fixed in about five minutes or less. I run this through my Vox AC-15CC1 and my Big Muff P.i. All I can Say is WOW!!! I've owned many products over the years and have never had a problem with any of them, all they need is a decent setup and you can take them through World War Three with no problems. Very playable, easy to use, survivability is without question, many tones, great sound...

Just getting around to posting a review...I bought this guitar back in 'o6...blond...the best Tele/Esquire I have ever played...no joke...I swapped the pickup for a Seymour Duncan Jerry Donahue, a Glendale bridge with comp saddles and thats it!....perfect neck,tuners are smooth and the best part is it comes in at just over 5 lbs.Please give the Mex Esquire a chance...I have owned too many Tele's over the years....Now it's this one only...Simply put, I got the sweetest guitar I have ever owned!

I customized mine a bit with a custom made 3-ply black pickguard, one of those ghetto tele humbucker Dimarzio pickups, and Fender brass saddels... After all that money and hassle, this turned out awesome. I'm an idiot for selling it!

I purchased the MIM Esquire and stripped it down. Added graphite nut and string tree, sperzel tuners, new cts pots ( push/pull tone ) for coil tapping the duncan hb, added new wilkinson bridge and she's a BURNER!!!!!

I had an Esquire, which was relic'd by Jimmy Mayo, a black one... and it was the best sounding and playing Tele style I had besides my old paisley. I put a B bender in it myself, and Jimmy did the Relic so real, you wouldn't know it was a new one!I also had a blonde from a few years ago, and I needed money at the time and sold it... I'll never sell another one. I love the tone... after I dropped a Seymour Duncan alnico 2 in it... It's a great guitar, totally gig worthy and reliable. get some staggered bridge barrels and it's good to go... intonated and ready to spank!I'm going to get the Burst next week as soon as I'm off the road for a few days... and That will be my main axe.
