I have three Fender Jaguars - each guitar has it's on personality in sound due to it's set up of string type and bridge setup - one has a Mustang bridge that helps keep the strings from jumping off but it mutes the strings a lot - I like the 62 bridge better for sound while paying instrumentals - this guitar has two circuits with different volume and tone for playing chords or leads etc.. I found this option ok for some things but I found the lead circuit sounds best for instrumentals with all three switchs in the up position - the output of this guitar is low compared to most so more than likely will have to run the volume wide open - The Jaguar is a good guitar for surf and instrumental music etc.. - Spring Reverb sounds great with this guitar - it has a natural twang sound similar to a danelectro guitar - I feel it lacks the ability to put out tones and sounds traditionaly used in other forms of rock music like all the different Stratocasters can deliver - but like all guitars it can sound different by changes in string size - highth etc.. I would classify this guitar as the best one for playing instrumentals or lead with spring reverb - but that's about it - that's why it went out of production after surf music died - it just doesn't have the range in tone desired by most players out there - I have played hundreds of hours on this guitar so I feel I know it well to say it's limited or designed to play insrumentals - innotation can be a problem with the 1962 bridge that makes playing chords above the 12th fret a problem and if you do not have the bridge posts set high enough you get fret buzz and muting of strings etc.. you have to adjust the pickups up close to the strings to get the best twang sound - The Jaguar sold here has copper shielding around the pots to eliminate signal sqeel most common with the Japanese made Jags - there is another bridge for Jags made in Japan that is not as good as this American made Jaguar sold here - there is a new Jaguar avialible now in Japan that has the block inlays on the fret board that came out in 1966 - I would only buy this guitar if you play instrumentals a lot - the Ventures tried out Jaguars when they came out but didn't like it as well as the Jazzmaster for tone and sustain needed in thier style of instrumental rock back then - the most famous player of the Jaguar was Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys in 1964

I thought someone professionally playing the music this guitar was built for should chime in with the solid facts. The Jaguar is a significant historical guitar with a distinct sound of a specific style of music. To get that sound you have to put up with all the design flaws that Fender chose not to fix out of nostalgia. The lower strings WILL rattle. I have read at Jag sites that the bridge has been labeled the "worst guitar design" item ever. You will need a Mustang one or a buzz stop (go with the mustang). Those little claws on the pickups are know as sustain killers. You can swap them for Seymour Duncans if you wish. HOWEVER, the pots and switches and wires are quality ones compared to the Japanese model and it has that nitrocellulose finish like the old Jag... which will flake and crack in time, decades from now, but guaranteed. It's organic instead of polyester. You will also get the gimmicky surf string mute, which everyone removed back in the day as it makes the strings all go up in pitch, and presents other problems. So, do you want the closest thing to a real Jag of old or how about the NEXT closest to that:the Japanese one at less than half the price? You will need to change the same parts as you would the U.S. one and with the proper Jag replica pickups, it will sound extremely close to the U.S. one. I think with any reverb on it one could not tell the difference. I have done this with the Japanese Jazzmaster. I have played an original, the new U.S., and the Japanese models. I chose the Japanese one and refit it as mentioned above.Having said all this...I still want a Jag someday...used. From a quality standpoint alone, compare Fender quality to the pinicle of American factory guitars, Rickenbacker, and see that you are paying so much because Fender makes so few of them. This thing should not be anywhere near even $1,000.

Comments about Fender '62 Jaguar Electric Guitar:
I own a wide variety of electrics (fenders, gibsons, and rickenbackers), and this is easily my favorite electric guitar. I like it so much that had it been my first electric guitar, I may not have even bothered to buy so many others.
My jag was perfect out of the box. really low action with no fret buzz. Felt comfortable in my hands as soon as i held it. The small scale is nice, and the tone is wonderful. I bought it in olympic white and it looks stunning. 5 stars.

Comments about Fender '62 Jaguar Electric Guitar:
This is a winner from day one. The coolest most beautiful guitar I own. The black with the tortoise shell pickguard just kills. It reminds me of all those beach/surf movies. The action is fantastic as is the mute for playing classic surf tunes. I can't say enough about how great this guitar is. Plus the tone through my VOX is awesome and when a distortion pedal is used this rocks with the best of them. I just love this guitar so much that I don't know why it took me so long to buy. A great guitar at a great price.

Comments about Fender '62 Jaguar Electric Guitar:
Great guitar. Fun to play. MANY tones available. Can do surf, country, even a really sweet p90 sound when you run the pickups together. Lovely tremelo. Yes, I said it! It's perfect for subtle chord shaking. Pretty stable if you don't do the VH wankathon on it. I love this guitar with a Deluxe Reverb, Twin Reverb, or any number of VOX amps.
Comments about Fender '62 Jaguar Electric Guitar:
Best guitar I have ever played or invested in. I could not be happier.
I would not suggest using it for metal. But I don't play metal so I am not really a very good judge.
I personally feel that the tonal selections of this guitar are the best of the four main Fender guitars. (Tele, Strat, Jazzmaster, Jaguar.) Yes, the others can do more - with active preamps and batteries. Contrary to what some say, the Tremelo is one of the best around. And it can be locked without having to take the plate off of the back and stuffing a chunk of wood in it.
I grew up with Jags and Jazzys. Sold my first jag in '71 and have been kicking myself ever since.
The Jaguar is one of the most comfortable guitars I have ever played, sitting or standing. Really have no problem bending strings as long as you don't try to bend two whole steps.
OK. here is where some might not agree.
I tested the Production line builds and was extremely impressed. Set up was good, neck straight, frets good, everything. Problem, Fender only makes three colors. (presumably because the others didn't sell well.) In order to get the color I wanted, I ordered through the Custom Shop dealer. But other than the color, and the extra attention the Custom Shop spends on the fret dressing, mine is identical to the 62 American Vintage Reissue. (yes, I have Custom Shop logo on headstock, neckplate, COA, and case candy) Body, neck, and electronics are identical to those bought off-the-rack.
Take care of it and the value will increase. Everyone loves it's tone AND it's looks. (it is a color that was never used on a regular production Jaguar.)

Comments about Fender '62 Jaguar Electric Guitar:
I picked my AVRI Jag up used fairly beat up. I was loving the style for a while, and when I saw this one I jumped on it.I'm a blues and jazz player, and many people say this guitar isn't great for that style. They are wrong. Mine has a Mastery Bridge on it, and even with the 7.5" radius, I can bend just as well as on my Am. St. Strat. The tones on this baby are great, and it is very versitile. The rhthym circuit is great for going from playing a chord progression and then switching into a solo. The neck feels very nice in my hands. The 24" scale might not be for everyone, but I prefer it for riffs where I need to stretch out my fingers more.If you want one of these GET IT. They are worth every penny.
Comments about Fender '62 Jaguar Electric Guitar:
This guitar is amazing. It is a bit on the pricey side but its worth every penny. The tone is great, and if you dont like it, its a jaguar, you can change it. The best word to say about this guitar....Versatility. It is an outstanding guitar.
Comments about Fender '62 Jaguar Electric Guitar:
Think I'm the only reviewer who got one of these for what it was designed for: SURF! And do I ever shred surf on this doll! It has such a sharp snap-twang, I can't get enough of it! Throw in some reverb, do a little tremolo picking, and I'm riding the sound waves till the sun comes down! I've gigged with it a few times, and praises from people EVERY time. Gorgous color, amazing sound, killer surf looks. Doesn't get better than that!
Comments about Fender '62 Jaguar Electric Guitar:
I went to my local shop to buy a reverb pedal and ended up with this; and a severe telling off from my mrs (she got over it when she saw the guitar). Olympic White, turt pickguard. The reason why I bought it was simple.. it had a large dent in the side. obviously been dropped from a great height onto something... damaging. The rest of the body was sound and no other damage apart from a slight bend in a tuning peg. SO IT WAS A TOTAL BARGAIN... like.. 50% offI have a Gibson es-359 Custom, SG and Epi Sheraton. This one stands out due to it's single coil amazingness. I can't put it down.. even the custom doesn't get played at the moment! A totally amazing, versatile tone machine.
