This was my first electric guitar. I had already been playing guitar for maybe a year or two, and I figured this would be a good choice (because it came with an amp, gig bag, etc). I later found out that such accessories as the gig bag and strap wouldn't last very long, but the guitar and amp were perfectly fine. I've had this guitar for a few years now, and all I can say is that the quality hasn't gone down at all. I might even go so far as to say it's gone up. It's not terribly heavy, no problems with the pickups, stays in tune (although I would recommend replacing the stock strings right away), and just doesn't diappoint. Don't let the 4 and 1/2 stars fool you, this is a quality instrument, but I would only recommend it to beginners or those looking for a first electric guitar.

I haven't had a guitar for well over 30 years, and I never learned to play on the one I briefly had when I was a kid, so my perspective is from a total novice, but a seriously guitar obsessed novice.

I started playing again six months ago and I now have four guitars and I play them at least 10 hours a week, usually more like 15 or more. While I still play the HSS daily, I have reservations about recommending this bundle to beginners. Beginners can be easily frustrated and distracted. The G-Dec amp is a big distraction. When you're supposed to be learning some mind-numbingly dull Mel Bay tune it's hard to resist the urge to start fiddling with the amp and make some "cool noise", and before you know it the block of time you'd set aside for practicing is gone. The backing loops are fun, but a beginner won't be able to make use of these for a while. The metronome really does come in handy, but the built in tuner doesn't. I got an inexpensive electronic tuner instead.

The quality control isn't very good. Someone told me manufactures hide "seconds" in these "Guitar Packs", and after seeing the HSS that came in mine I can believe it. There's a very large area on the body where your arm rests where the finish is all cratered, like someone sneezed in the spray booth. My guess is that Fender wouldn't want that one going to a store that might display the guitar hanging on the wall so it got hidden away in a "Pack". I didn't send it back for a few reasons. I was instantly hooked on playing guitar and couldn't stand the idea of being without one during the exchange time. And aside from the cosmetic flaw this guitar is very solid. It stays in tune well and the set up was right to factory specs, (I checked it recently with some Luthier gauges). The combination of the humbucker and the two single coils gives you a lot of flexibility. The neck is super comfortable aside from frets that hang out a bit over one side. (The frets will get sorted out later since I plan to get a professional fret job done after they've worn more.) Basically it's a solid guitar that's fun to play, and despite the blemishes it looks really nice, (I got the metallic red). I can't comment on the quality of the tremolo system since I just briefly tested it to see if it worked, then unscrewed the lever. Someday I'll probably block the tremolo.

The gig bag isn't very reassuring. It might protect the guitar from a Nerf gun attack, but the padding is way too thin to guard against much more than that. Also the straps are minimal and look like they're prone to break. Think of it more as a "guitar cover with handles".

The bottom line is I really do like the guitar. It's the loudest guitar I have when it's not plugged in so I find myself playing it all the time. When you can just snatch a guitar off the wall and start playing in seconds without walking over to the amp you'll find yourself playing a lot more. I've only had it for around six months and already I can see some notches starting to form in the frets, that'll give you an idea how much it gets used.

However I'd recommend that anyone interested in this pack buy the components separately. For a beginner I'd suggest a simpler, less distracting amp like the Fender Frontman 10g. You could get that and the Squire Affinity HSS Strat for less than the cost of this pack, (a lot less if you opt for another finish besides the red), then pick out a nicer gig bag to go with it.

Comments about Fender Affinity Strat HSS and G-DEC Junior Amp Value Pack:

I never never never have purchased guitar like this. Can anybody image if you got the package, but some parts are missing? I purchased few days ago, when I got the package I found there is no Apm inside. When I call the customer service, they said the guitar you purchased is under condition(I did not get descriptions to tell me that), that means you will not get the all parts. For me, I did not get the amp. When you return the item, you have to pay for the postage which is around $30-40. So guys, just take care. You can definitely go ahead to buy if you have lot of time to ask why the package has no Apm or other parts.

          Great buy!

Comments about Fender Affinity Strat HSS and G-DEC Junior Amp Value Pack:

I highly recommend this package for a starter - the band features in the amp are really a great value and my kids are enjoying the various sounds, rhythms, tempos etc.
What a nice package - my kids and their teacher love the set, the extra features on the amp are worth the extra money you spend compared to lower (cheaper) models. The guitar is also very good.
Had trouble with tuning the strings using the built-in tuner. Had to use a separate tuner. The built-in tuner does not reconize the strings too well and you end up with wrong tuning unless you are a pro.
Without a doubt, this is a great deal for a starter package

          Excellent Buy

Comments about Fender Affinity Strat HSS and G-DEC Junior Amp Value Pack:

The guitar looks and sounds great. The amplifier has so many options, and with or without "the band" that it will take some time to figure out the sounds that work the best in the setting that you have. With that said, you always want to go back for more practice.
The amplifier sounds better than I expected. It was worth the upgrade to get the loops and all of the settings. Even at 15 watts is ideal for a small Church setting or just practicing in a music room.
The Fender Squier Affinity guitar is a high quality, heavy duty guitar. It is heavier than I thought it would be, but still very comfortable to play. The metalic blue is different than it shows on line or on the box. It is a beautiful deep blue metalic and almost a deep purple look in some lighting.
After much on line research, this appeared to be the best value. After receiving my package, it is confirmed that it is worth the price. Though the strap and slightly padded soft case will work just fine, I wouldn't mind upgrading those later on.

          GREAT FIRST GUITAR!

          By Anonymous

Comments about Fender Affinity Strat HSS and G-DEC Junior Amp Value Pack:

I got this package a little over a year ago and even thought I have gotten a new guitar since I still love everything about this bundle. The guitar for the most part works great and has an ok sound, the pick-ups are a little cheap though, I replaced them and now it sounds great. The only problem I have over all with the guitar is it does not stay in tune and the truss rod becomes loose which is very annoying. I still use the amp and event though I want to get an upgrade it has served me well over the past year, It has a variety of distortions and effects along with a fair amount of loops to play along with. My only problem is that it is hard to get a good clean sound out of it which is important. The other items are second rate at best and better versions will need to be purchased such as new cables. Still a great product.

Comments about Fender Affinity Strat HSS and G-DEC Junior Amp Value Pack:

I owned this for about 3 months before pawning it off. The reason being that I moved, and had an addiction to the booze...and I had become jobless. The g-dec is fantastic for building rhythmic soundness...the sheer pleasure of having a decent backing band at your fingertips is incredible. People forget we live in awesome times. That is not to say this amp is perfect, the distortion can be quite a problem trying to dial in a smooth one, imho. But the value hear can not be denied. A damn down and out REAL musician could use this system if he hit hard times....it is a great package. The guitar is...GOOD! Not great, but I emphasize good because I was expecting much worse. Once I strung em high for an hour, they came back in tune and stayed there for the day. I never intonated it, bu it'd have played like a dream if I had. This pickups are brittle and takes some coaxing to find a good tone, I simply recommend you use the neck pickup and you'll be fine.I am sorry I let this package I go, but now, my life is back in order, relatively sober, and got a better setup. Recommended.

Comments about Fender Affinity Strat HSS and G-DEC Junior Amp Value Pack:

I am only a beginner but this guitar is AWESOME! The amp has many different sounds to choose from and sounds great for an amp that size. The only problem is that mine came with a piece of metal in the tremolo spot, so I had to take a screwdriver to it, and that there is some buzzing on the low E string. Other than those I think that you should look at this seriously if you are going to start playing.

I have played accustic for about 2 years. I have been wanting an electric guitar for the past year. I am happy with the guitar. It looks great. The amp just doesn't make the electric sound I have been wanting. The amp makes a fuzzy sound. It may be me being very inexperienced with amps, but the amp sounds cheap.
