Mellow Strat sound

By DJ

from Germany

I had wanted this guitar for a long time. I used to own an American Standard, and sadly, I have to admit, this one doesn't "sound" like the standard. The SMC pickups coupled with the HB make it pretty, but it just doesn't have the "ring" that the standard single coils had. Other than that, it's a wonderful instrument. I love the feel and balance of it - the neck is the best strat neck I've played, the locking tuners are a blessing, and the S1 switching system gives some interesting tones once you get used to it (the positions aren't the same as a standard 5-position switch). All in all, no complaints - I can always replace the pickups :)

I have owned an American Fat Strat for 4-5 years. I bought it because I wanted a quality guiter, but couldn't afford the Gibsons I've always wanted. I've been playing for 30 years and loved everything about this guitar. I just bought my dream guitar, a les Paul Classic, last month. I thought the Les Paul would blow away the Strat once I got to playing them alot. I am blown away at how great the Fat Strat sounds next to my new Les Paul. The Strat has so many sounds, from beautiful clean tones to hot crunch with the humbucker. The Strat feels more balanced and cost about $600 less. I would rate the Les Paul at about a 9 and the Strat at a solid 10! I can't play my new Les Paul without finishing up with my trusty Strat. I may have to look at one of these new Fat Strats with double the sounds.

This is how guitars are suppose to be built

When I played this guitar for the first time I was truly amazed how good it felt in my hands. Playability is top notch and the tonal range of this instrument is heavenly... think Jimi. My favorite is playing lead on the neck pickup, it's so creamy, yet powerful enough to punch through any rhythm section. To be honest, I was never a big fan of Fender and single coil pickups until I played this bad boy. I've always been partial to Les Pauls and I definitely need a humbucker in the bridge, but Fender won me over with this one. I love the single coil sound in the neck position, it gives me chills everytime I bend a note in the stratosphere. This guitar has some weight to it which is another plus, especially for fat tone. The other strats I've played are too lite and fall way short of this guitar.Overall, Fender hit the nail right on the head. This guitar should be Fender's flagship model, it's top quality and well worth the price they are asking for.

Awesome just to hold, Awesome to look at! I don't really play guitar (son's xmas gift, I play bass), but even my tired old riffs sound wonderful on this perfect sweetheart .
