I purchased this Strat after looking at 3 other in the American series and am very happy with this one. The looking tuners, roller nut, and upgraded pick-ups make this one awesome beast. This S1 switching gives you endless possiblilites in sound. The only thing I woulg change would be to add a locking tremolo and a secondary tone control.
This guitar is absolutely beautiful - excellent piece of workmanship, excellent finish. Strumming the strings generates some of the most beautiful, almost magical, sounds I have ever heard from a guitar. Amazing.Unfortunately, after less than a week of ownership, I picked up the guitar by the neck, and out fell the S-1 switch totally unprovoked. A support ring separated, and I could not find it, which left the S-1 switch useless and a hole in the volume knob. Fender was extremely rude and utterly useless in supporting getting this fixed - A ONE WEEK OLD GUITAR!!!!! Fender is supposed to be one of the best!!! I live in Europe and was treated like I live on the moon. Next time, I buy the Les Paul and be done with it. Excellent guitar and if you're lucky enough to not need service, you will have won the guitar lottery. If you have any issues with it, however, you're in trouble. If I had the chance to do again, I wound NOT buy this guitar or any other Fender.
i recently played this guitar at a local music store. When you first pick this guitar up it is much heavier than most Fenders. however the frets on this guitar are incredible! they are extremely smooth to play, unlike anything I've played previously. the pickups are also top quality, this is one guitar that you won't need to replace them. i got a variety of sounds in a very short period of time, using only one amp and no effects. the humbucker allows for heavy distortion with no buzz, and the single coils sound very "fender". i found nothing wrong with this guitar and highly recommend it.
This is a truly great guitar. The variety of tones ( provided by the S1 switch ) make it truly the most versatile guitar I have ever played. The roller nut means it actually stays in tune when you use the tremelo - not just for the whole song - for the whole week. A very high quality guitar that truly justifies the price.
I have had this guitar for 3 years. It sounds great, and has awesome tone. The S1 switch gives this guitar a lot of versatility. The only problem with this guitar is the complexity of the wiring because of the S1 switching system. It gives the guitar a lot of tone options, but makes it very hard to do repairs yourself if something breaks:I had an issue with selector switch in the bridge position for about 2 years before I was finally able to get it fixed. But its still a great guitar when it works.I would recommend this guitar to anyone who can find one...they stopped making them in 2009.
I've been blessed to play and own a myriad of guitars and have never before been this pleased with the versitility, pure tone and vibe from a single guitar. Here it is! The S-1 switching does just amazing things to the sound of the guitar - my favorite is the S-1 switch neck position. At this setting, the guitar takes on some amazing Les Paul character warmth and yet retains every ounce of Stratocaster brilliance. You had better do yourself a favor and find one of these and give your ears a taste of Heaven to come. Man, I haven't even spoken about the looks of it yet!...
