I've had many guitars over the years and always watned a Strat but never bought one until now. I am very pleased with this guitar. It did require some setup to meet my personal preferences and once dialed in it preforms every bit as well as I hoped for.

The neck is very comfortable and easy to play. Im not used to the more rounded radius but it did not present any problems.

The neck and middle pickups deliver that great classic Strat sound the neck being my favorite. The Diamondback humbucker in the bridge while not high output does deliver some great tone and I can get some good crunch when overdriven. Switching to a lead chanel on my amp yields some great sustain and plenty of sear.

Overall the guitar has a great feel with wonderful tone and the jade pearl metallic paint job is superb. I find myself spending hours playing this guitar, very happy with it.

First, the bad. Specifically, substandard quality control; not what you would expect from an American Stratocaster that costs $1k +

1) Black case has white styrofoam (glue?) stuck onto the sides. Not a huge deal, but not what you would expect for something brand new.

2) Guitar looks like it may have been a display? Tuning machines were covered with greasy finger prints and very fine scratches in the top coast of the finish. Sure, this is fine after I've played the thing, just a little taken aback that this was the condition upon removing it from the case.

3) Beautiful neck - would be perfect if it wasn't for some odd imperfections on the back of the neck that were "filled" with extra polyurethane. Doesn't effect playability - just a nuisance when my thumb rubs across it.

4) Odd noise from the tremolo. Resolved upon screwing in the tremolo arm.

5) Tremolo is not at all set-up in the factory. Order extra springs as it doesn't function well as a "floating" trem.

I know this is a lot of negative, but with spending this kind of money on a brand new guitar; I expect more. I haven't had this issue with other new guitars from other manufacturers.

On a positive note, the maple neck/fingerboard is absolutely wonderful (aside from the finish imperfection I noted above). This pickups are better than I expected as well, but still falls a little short of the Seymour Duncan JB/TB I have grown accustomed to.

It's a stratocaster, so you're getting a great guitar, but I urge Fender to put a little more care into these.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar with Maple Fretboard:

I know a lot of musicians who say they can't really tell the difference between an American made strat and a Mexican made strat. But at this price point, there's no reason to not go American. This thing is exactly what you'd expect--a quality guitar with great, versatile tones, and amazing playability. The maple fretboard is as smooth as butter. What more can you say, really? It's a genuine American made Fender product. It's an excellent instrument.

The humbucker adds a nice little flair and change of pace from your traditional kind of strat. I play a lot of mildly distorted rock songs, and this pickup does a great job of adding some crunch and bottom end while keeping the notes clear and balanced mids and highs. It also works surprisingly well with cleans. The Fat 50s in the middle and neck positions give you that classic strat feel and perform perfectly, especially with cleans.

In short, this pickup setup maintains the integrity of the classic strat sound and feel while adding something fresh to experiment with.

Quite honestly the only con I have with this product is the same con I have with most fender strats. For those that don't know, these things don't usually come setup very well from the factory. Transporting and storage really messes with the factory balance. That said, I recommend getting a proper setup done as soon as you get this out of the box. Additionally, it's a good idea to plan your setup based on your string gauge, so be sure to specify what strings you want on the guitar when you get the set up done if you aren't doing it yourself.

That aside though, buy this guitar if you have your eye on it. You won't regret it. Fantastic instrument, and you really can't beat this price point.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar with Maple Fretboard:

This is a great guitar! I scored it on an open box/blemish what a deal. I have been a Gibson man all the way, however, after opening the box I was mesmerized by the beauty, playability, and excellent quality. I had tried out a few Strats at Guitar Center but didn't really click, especially with the MIM models. This US made Strat was one half the price of a Gibson LP or an SG. This is the best bang for the buck for a legendary American made Fender.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar with Maple Fretboard:

This is a tale of two American Standard Stratocasters - one HSS purchased at Musician's Friend and the other an SSS purchased at GC. I found the HSS American Standard on sale at Musician's Friend, so I decided to make the investment. Initially, the idea was to modify it with a higher-output humbucker to make it different than my SSS Strat. I didn't think I would like the standard Diamondback humbucker, but I immediately fell in love with it when I plugged the guitar into my little 5W, tube amp. It maintains the tonal characteristics of the Fat 50s single coils with a lot more output and no hum when its deployed by itself. I immediately scrapped the decision to replace the pickup. I'm keeping it just the way it is! I also was very pleasantly surprised to find the 60th Anniversary neck-bolt plate on the back.
The tale of the second Strat . . . I purchased my first American Standard Strat at GC two years ago. It was an SSS with a maple fretboard. I immediately fell in love with this instrument. After two years with this guitar, the Strat sound has become my personal tone and I'm planning to invest in a Fender amplifier soon.
Both instruments proved one thing - you cannot find a higher quality guitar made in America for the same price. I can buy two American Standard Strats for the price of virtually any other American made electric guitar - so I did! Fender American Standard guitars are not mass produced - they are mass hand crafted. I give the American Standard Stratocaster my highest recommendation.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar with Maple Fretboard:

I have never been a "Strat/Fender Man" in the guitar department (amps are a whole 'nother thing). With that said, I bought this at a terrific price for an American-made Strat, to add to my collection. Figured I "should" have at least one Strat. This one has a great neck - despite that it's a bolt-on, like all Fenders - finished well, and with good sound. I have given it a 5-star rating based on exactly what it is. If you ARE a Strat-person, this is a great deal on a good, solid, American-made instrument. If, like me, you are primarily a Gibson/RIC/Set-in Neck sort of person, this will NOT be your favorite instrument, but certainly a very playable one, with "that" sound that is only Fender. Great case, too (included)!

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar with Maple Fretboard:

I have been playing guitar for 30 plus years and have always been a fan of the Fender Stratocaster. I have owned and still own guitars from other manufacturers but my favorite is the Fender Stratocaster. The American Standard Stratocaster is a quality instrument with many great features. The one I ordered arrived promptly and was nicely packaged. After a quick inspection I took to setting things up to my liking. I pull the trem down to the body, replace the 9's with 10's, tighten every screw and nut, adjust the neck, set the action and pickup height and finally set the intonation. Every guitar that I have ever purchased new has required a proper setup and I always check screws and nuts because wood shrinks as it dries causing things to need tightened back up. This Stratocaster gets my Fender Strat collection up to 9. I like the fact that Fender guitars are easy to work on and easy to modify if you like swapping pickups or the look of a different pick guard on your guitar. I am happy with the current pickups, H/S/S Diamondback and 2 Fat 50's. They work well together. The Fat 50's may be my favorite Fender single coil pickup in any of my Stratocasters. The guitar plays and sounds great. The case is sturdy, can be locked and has enough storage room. I am quite happy with this purchase and the people that I have dealt with at Musicians Friend have always been helpful and polite with me.

You will need to plan to get it set-up either yourself or professionally. it plays well and the hum buckers add a different sound between the start and les paul type guitar.

I can only speak from my experience, so here it goes. The box was delivered with one end open but after inspecting it, I did not see any signs of damage and accepted it. After removing the case from the box, I was pleased it looked great and when I opened it to find the lining was black plush material and all the eye candy, I was really happy. This was an open box sale, the guitar looked great and had no blemishes. I plugged it into my Fender Chorus amp and played Hotel California by the Eagles, great feel and sound.Rock on!
