A little overpriced, but Killer!

By Ahousemann

from St. Louis

Comments about Fender American Vintage '57 Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Negatives: The ash tray is useless because you are not going to put it back on the bridge with ashes in it. The short scale really wants 10's on it. I like to play with 11's but I am happier with 10,s (Ernie Ball slinkys with the thicker core wire for extra pop) on this particular guitar. I have not tried 9's, they should work just fine. The pickups are very low gain if set correctly (even more than a regular single coil) Don't even think about playing this guitar in a bar with neon lights that are close. It should come with the three-way in the packet and five way switch installed. Positives: It looks Awesome! It feels like a strat should. It sounds like a strat should. I dive the whammy bar all the way down a couple of times per set, and it rarely goes out of tune. I play guitar very very hard and it gets a good sound. My singer plays this guitar very light and it still sound great. I have gotten a lot of different sounds out of it in the recording studio. It came set up fairly well. But I brought it down to hace it set up professionally, and now it is perfect. Conclusion: This is a high quality, professional axe. I will keep it forever. But if I had to do it all over again, I would not have payed the extra money for a vintage. I would have spent a little more for a prettier guitar or a custom shop. Or less money on a modern version of the strat with pickups that pick up less noise like the noiseless. I just don't think it pays to go vintage. But then again, chicks like pastel (surf green); I only bought it for the color. I couldn't find this color any cheeper.

All things considered a great guitar at a decent pricepoint.
I've owned countless Fenders-old and newer.Just got one of these American Vintage '57 Strats. This ranks as the apex of Strats in my opinion. In short-TOO COOL NOT TO OWN!!
Put the 5-way switch in and your off !!!
Great quality.
You can spend a lot more on custom shop guitars-doesn't mean your going to be glad you did necessarily.

Comments about Fender American Vintage '57 Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I've heard people say they don't like the thin tone..Then WHY BUY A STRAT?..That's what a Strat does!! If you want fat tone, buy a Les Paul for crying out loud!! I love the in between tones and cluck I can get out of this thing..i play through a AC-30 Clone and it sounds sweet!! Does distortion really well too..you just have to know what it's limitations are!!
Nice Skinny neck, Maple board and Sweet Strat Tone..I've been sour on Strats for years, but this thing is a keeper!!
Stays in tune, even with severe bending!! Action is Perfect!!
A little Spendy in this economy, but you get what you pay for..Great Job Fender!!

Comments about Fender American Vintage '57 Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

The craftsmanship on this guitar is flawless.
The neck is extremely comfortable but not as slick as the neck on my 2007 American Deluxe. It allows me to really grip the neck for amazing vibrato and bends. It stays perfectly in tune even with heavy handed Blues playing.
The best sustain of any guitar I've ever owned or played. Pick one note and it will ring endlessly.
The pickups are very crisp and clear.
I'm thrilled to have this in my musical arsenal.

Comments about Fender American Vintage '57 Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

If you like the 50's you gotta have this strat. This is a real re-creation of the original. The quality is just the best, it rivals a custom shop anyday. The neck is like butter, my 2 tone sunburst is perfect, the vintage frets are wonderful and the 3 way switch with the 57/62 pickups are amazing. This strat is simply the best there is out there. I don't think there is another one that can compete.

    The '57 Speaks to me!

    By King-O-Vibe-O-Matic

    from Kingsburg Californ-ia

Comments about Fender American Vintage '57 Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I wanted a Fender Stratocaster, but didn't know which to get. After looking at many possibilities (in or near its price range), and after days of research, I decided on this beauty, the Surf Green, Fender American Vintage '57 Stratocaster. The reason? It speaks to me. Vintage Vibe Dude! This one's got it all and then some. Originality is the name of this game. Right down to the cloth-wrapped internal wiring and three-position switch, (5-way switch is included in kit, if you prefer) this guitar is faithful to the era, and definitely no shortage of that totally cool vintage Strat vibe. No other Fender I demoed sounded-or looked-quite like this. Played through a 40 watt, Fender Blues Deluxe tube amp, this guitar, with its 'New American Vintage Single-coil Strat pickups' demonstrates pristine, glassy, bell-like highs, clean, distinct midrange, and, (how to say it) sort-of foamy, wiry, cool-sounding overall tone with plenty of beef in the bass. I never knew why the old, vintage Strats were so popular. Now I do. If you've played a recent American strat, or perhaps, the American Deluxe Series, you know they sound very good. But, this sounds even better, that is, if you prefer that revered vintage Strat tone. They're still just like they used to make them: very simple to use and maintain without a bunch of complicated parts. This guitar is well put-together. Very nicely finished in that awesome vintage '57 Chevy Belaire, two-door coup, surf green mirror-gloss lacquer body, together with the highly-polished, (also lacquer) aged-looking, one-piece, lightly figured maple neck. It is a joy to behold! And playability? Smooth. The polished, vintage-sized, nickel-silver frets gleam a golden hue in the moonlight-y-night. The action out-of-the-box is just how I like it: medium-low, with just a tiny, tiny bit of buzz when really laying it down. Nut depth and spacing-right on. Strings lie parallel with neck and equal on both sides. Vintage tuners are tight, easy to tune and stay put. Mine stays in tune. The attention to detail on this guitar is excellent. And, its upper middle-of-the-road price-range makes it affordable. I also own an American Telecaster with the 43 mm, 9.5" radius, 'C' neck and thought the '57 Strat's narrower 42 mm, 7.25" radius, soft-'V' neck would be a problem fit for my fingers, but it somehow accommodates me and I can play-maybe even better. Very comfortable neck overall. One little problem I had was with this particular chrome bridge cover fitting too closely to the tremolo arm, causing the cover to slip off when the arm is actuated. There is an indentation in the cover's side which allows space for the arm, but it is not enough. Seems it needed to be expertly adjusted with a little rotory-tool action (the cover, not the arm). I did not address this with Fender, but they should be made aware of this problem. Some covers fit fine, I hear. So, if you happen to be one of those players who wants to actually hear and discern what the guitar itself sounds like, and you want that elusive true Fender vintage vibe, then this is the one to get. I did, and am not at all disappointed.

I've owned one of these for 28 years and it's never let me down. If you're in the market for a true Strat this and the 62 reissue are the real deal. Drop a Hot Rails into the bridge position and you'll have all the bases covered. Fender got it right when they reissued these, though a bit pricey they're still a great deal. Go ahead hit the buy button you won't be sorry!

    The Holy Grail

    By Anonymous

Comments about Fender American Vintage '57 Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Why does Fender make 3000 types of Strats now, when they had perfection back in 1957? In fact, these reissues might be even better than the originals because there is consistancy.I bought my reissue in 1996. Are they still making them as well ten years later? That I don't know. If you are a Buddy Holly fan like me, this guitar is a dream come true.If you could only have one guitar - this would be it.

My opinion on '57 reissue vintage strat.

    By Joe from Japan

Comments about Fender American Vintage '57 Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I'm a guitarist from Japan and I've been playing guitars since I was 15 years old. I love many guitars but I love Strats the most.My most favorite strat is '57 reissue strat, I've had them 7 in total over the years. They had tiny changes here there since their'82 debut but after the up-date in 1998,they have became almost perfect. The onlything which is different from the originalsare the location of the string guide and thebottom and middle finish coats are polyurethane instead of lacquer, these boththings are corrected on the custom shop models but not on the regular models. I wished that if Fender corrected everythingin '98 for the original spec, but maybe theyleft those on purpose. We should ask why forFender. Vintage reissue Strats are otherwisevery high-quality American proud-made guitars. Very good materials are used and the tone and feel are so rich. They are theguitars that we can be in love with foreverand they will always respond our playingright. The original strats have some problems like the lack of 22nd fret and the neck radius is 7.25 so the note will die aswe bend the strings. Or they have the truss-rod at the neck-end instead of the headstock or the single coil pickups simply makes thenoise. Since Vintage reissue is the reissueof the originals, they also have these problems. But that's just the original strats are, some problems yet the greatestelectric guitar ever. (Sorry for Les Paul folks!) The vintage reissue comes in verynostalgic tweed case with many cool tags andpapers. They even smell very aweet and nostalgic because of lacquer finish. It's expensive guitar but really has many great things in it. I can personally spend hoursjust playing those reissue because they makeme play and imagine to the rich golden pasttimes of the history. I can always imagine a lot about America even I'm in Japan. If you want a modern perfect real Fender, thenAmerican standard is the way to go, but if you want a real Fender with the timeless value and American dream, the vintage reissue series are what you gotta go for."Only a Strat is good enough!" Thanx!

Comments about Fender American Vintage '57 Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I purchased my second one of these a couple of months ago, and it just doesn't get any better. I thought long and hard about getting a Hot Rod '57, but I'm glad I came to my senses and got another of these! I did change the pickups to EMG-SA's, but not because I don't like the stock 57/62 pup's. These are my main guitars, and I need them to sound a little more versatile. For the classic Strat sound, I like the stock pup's better, but they don't get a very good brown sound (which the EMG's do...as well as a very good classic Strat tone and everything in between). The feel of this thing is simply...butter! In fact, it's butter churned to cream spilling over the top! There is no better neck...period! You can set it up low, but it's better a little higher. Once you get used to the feel of higher action, you'll love the benefits. Sustain for days, and a beautiful tone without even plugging in. Why do think Hendrix, and most tone gods use a higher action. Most musicians spend countless hours trying to find the perfect rig (including me). I still haven't found my dream amp or an effects setup that is perfect (close on both accounts, but not perfect). Well, as for my guitar, I have found the one! And this is it! Even if I had one built at the Fender Custom Shop, I'd have 'em build it just like this. Maybe I'll finally find the rest of my rig to match the perfection of the American Vintage '57 Strat. Wish me luck!

Comments about Fender American Vintage '57 Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have had this guitar for a week now, and I own several other strats. I have slowly, over time, begun to go from rosewood necks to maple necks, and the 57' Vintage and 57' hotrod have become two of my standards. This guitar is absolutely true to the orinigal intentions of Fender. I bought the 2 Tone Sunburst and it's the most visually pleasing guitar I own. The only drawback is the 3 way swtiching (which you can change to 5 way with the easy-to-follow kit included with the guitar) but aside from that it's a faithful reproduction of what you would have gotten in 57'. Many people don't like the 7.25" radius neck, but to me as someone who usually plays on 9.5", it's not that big of a deal. If anything, it's teaching me to play cleaner than I have before. All in all if you want to get back to the roots of the Stratocaster, this is the guitar you want. Ronnie Wood, Buddy Holly, Clapton, and David Gilmour have all played the 57's and there is a reason why. Put this gem in your hands and you'll feel it too.

Comments about Fender American Vintage '57 Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I've had a candy apple red one for over 15 years. I play it every day and it's still in fantastic shape. The V neck is simply amazing (NEVER fret out, btw), and I love the dark tinted lacquer finish. The original frets are only showing signs of minimal wear and still have plenty of years left. This despite countless hours of play. Definitely my soulmate! The beautiful lacquer finish is aging so richly. It's turning into a gorgeous lightly "relic'd" vintage Strat people would pay custom shop money for. I love it so much, I bought a 2nd one and am actively pursuing a 3rd!

Another thing I love about this guitar (besides everything), is that it fully competes in a world of high end, exotic guitars. And even though it doesn't have a super deluxe, quilted mahogany top. Or a one-piece neck made from east African Rosewood that had to be retrieved from beneath a nest of highly venomous cobras. Many top guitarists, who can play any axe they desire, choose this as their main guitar.

My guitar has some paint chips around the strap buttons. Very minor but still there!!This guitar is a 2005 so I expected a lot better quality from Fender!!The Surf Green looks great and the guitar plays easy and sounds fantastic.

Comments about Fender American Vintage '57 Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I just got one of these last week and it is incredible. Paint is flawless, neck is fast and pickups are very sensitive. Seems to sound good no matter what I plug it into.. I highly recommend Fender's American Vintage Series, these are very true to the originals and will only go up in value over the years. That being said, early Strats had 3 position switches- stop whining about it. It took me five minutes to switch it out with the 5 position switch that was included with the guitar.

Comments about Fender American Vintage '57 Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I can't hardley beleive how great of a guitar this is. The sound, feel, setup, finish and qulity are all top notch. I got the White transparant finsh over the ash body. It's so beautiful. I love the old fashioned tweed case. The "V" neck is amazing. I played an original 57 back in 79 when I was a full time musician and I can't tell a difference from what I can remember. I even compared it to a Custom shop 60's model and liked the 57 better, and for less money. I also had the Jimmy Vaughn model in white made in Mexico and it was right up up there with the American made 57 reissue. Fenders quality is unbeleivable to me, esspecially compared to Gibsons. This 57 is one of the best sounding guitars I own and I have several Les Pauls, a 335, Gretch and the 52 Tele reissue which may be the best sounding of them all. If your a Strat guy get this guitar!

This is one of my seven Strats. Next to my masterbuilt 50th anniversary 1954 Strat, this comes in second. I love these 57 reissues so much, that I may get one or two more. I just love the "V" shaped neck and the laquer finish. They sound awesome and are a much better value (in my opinion) the any of the American series or Custom shop guitars. If you can't afford a Custom shop guitar, try to get one of these...you won't be sorry that you did. Fender workmanship has been getting better and better.
