OVERVIEW

An authentic mid-'60s Strat in a fantastic, flash-coated finish.

The 1965 Stratocaster saw the return to a thick C-shaped maple neck, this time with a round-laminated dark rosewood fingerboard and larger pearl dot inlays. It was also the first year for enamel-covered pickup wire. That's what players will find on the American Vintage 65 Stratocaster, along with other authentic features including a three-ply white pickguard with 11 holes, lightweight alder body, aged plastic knobs and vintage-accurate pickups, bridge saddles, tuner spacing and more. Includes hardshell case.

Comments about Fender American Vintage '65 Stratocaster with Rosewood Fretboard:

As a SDOTD, I couldn't resist snatching this guitar up. I have been looking for a vintage type Stratocaster for some time, so naturally the price was right on this one. First and foremost, if you're not a strat player, you probably want to look elsewhere. This isn't humbucking city and it's not a metal guitar by any means. However, if you love vintage tone and (like me) get crazy goosebumps all over when you hear a strat played in positions 2 and 4, get this guitar! It plays like a dream. It comes strung with light gauge 10's (which all guitars should), but it really plays easy. The radius is a vintage 7.5, so the only problem I have is there is a tendency for the high E to fret out if you bend too high on certain frets.

The setup wasn't that great, but it was good for a factory setup. If you don't know how to setup your own guitars, learn. Every player is different, and there isn't a "right way" to set one up. I like a little lower action than factory and slightly less relief on my guitars.

The 65 grey-bottom pickups are very vintage sounding and it took me some time to get used to them. I have everything from Dimarzio's, Duncans, and Gibson '57's. However, with the right amp and pedals, this guitar just oozes great tone. I use a AX-FX 2 modeler, so for instance using the 59 marshall plexi sounds along with greenback speakers and the fuzz face pedal, man, you can jam for days... add a wah, and you're back in the 60's.

It comes with a great vintage case (red lining) and some goodies: a cord, a strap, polishing cloth, extra claw springs for the tremolo, vintage trem cover (very retro), and an authentic 3 position pickup switch if you'd rather go vintage.

If I was a regular gigging musician, I would probably take a cheaper strat out to play. The finish is delicate and it will crack, dissipate, and become 'checked.' If you buy the guitar and it ships from a different climate than where you live, head the warnings and DO NOT open the case for at least 24 hours.

Comments about Fender American Vintage '65 Stratocaster with Rosewood Fretboard:

Great Vintage Stratocaster in a nice Burgundy Mist color.....Sounds great and has nice craftsmanship. I realize a reviewer stated it has a bad trussrod. They only thing I don't like about Vintage Fenders is that their trussrod adjustments are made at the heel of the neck, which can be a pain, because it requires removal of the neck. Once adjusted correctly, you should be all set for a long time. If one did get shipped with a bad trussrod, I'm sure you could get free return shipping for a replacement guitar. The one that is listed as "blemished" under the open box section is actually not blemished. I was accidentally shipped two guitars (and charged for them), so I sent one back.....That is how I know :) Save some $$$$ and get a nice guitar!
