This is a well made, great looking, easy playing guitar. I have the red and off white polka dot version. The spots are a nice vintage looking creamy white that doesn't show in the photos on the website. the neck feels great and the action is low and easy. The only drawback is the stock pickups are sort of flat sounding without much character. I swapped them out for a set of Fender Custom Shop Fat 50's pickups and now this is my favorite Strat.

Not quite Buddy

I'm sure buddy wanted his guitar to be affordablefor folks. However he still uses gold lace sensors. Which is key to his tone and sound.

Comments about Fender Artist Series Buddy Guy Polka Dot Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This is a good guitar but nothing special except for the polka dots compared to the MIM model so why pay more. But a Roadhouse or Jimmy Vaughn and at least you get better pickups. It is alot of money for polka Dots sorry Fender but no real value in the copy of a good guitar

Fitting tribute to a blues legend ...

Comments about Fender Artist Series Buddy Guy Polka Dot Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for a few years and love it! It was my first Strat, and I think I made a great choice. Mine is white with black dots. The tone and sustain are great, and I'm a maple fretboard guy so the neck is great. The only modification I've made is shortening the tremolo arm. I'm happy with the whole set-up; I'm just toying with the idea of sticking some Lace Sensor pickups in there to see if that makes any difference. I love the bluesy tone that the guitar gets now, though, so I don't know if I'll actually switch pickups. If you like blues and you're looking for a good Strat, look no further!

Comments about Fender Artist Series Buddy Guy Polka Dot Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Lucked out and got one in new condition off the wall of a previous owner for a great price. I kept breaking the little-E strings (.011) so I swapped the bridge for a super-vee bladerunner. Whoa, good sounds turned into awesome sounds with nice sustain. So the E-string problem abated. But now I can hear that the pickups are a bit weak and narrow. In go a set of Fender Fat 50's. Uh, what, sound becomes fantastic, stunning player now. I'm very happy with this guitar. This guitar has a vibe when I'm playing it and it is all blues. In summary, good guitar stock, and better if you can get a used one... but a great player with a few mods.

    Awesome

Comments about Fender Artist Series Buddy Guy Polka Dot Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I own this guitar since approximately 1 year. I bought it used and I've made some modifications on it (H&H pickup configuration, new saddles and scallop). Guess what; It sounds louder and greater than my American Strat (even unplugged). The sustain is incredible! I'd recommend to do some modifications to the electronics; the original pickups are a little bit noisy and sound too thin. Put great pickups on it and it'll be ready to rock!

    Excellent Value

    By TommyGuitars.com

Comments about Fender Artist Series Buddy Guy Polka Dot Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

When it comes to Polka Dot guitars, there are only two out there that come to mind: Buddy's Fender Strat and Vivian Campbell's Kramer Nightswan designed by Buddy Blaze of Texas. Makes me wonder which came first. In any case, Buddy's Fender plays like butter, however I think Vivian's Nightswan has about the lowest action that can be found on an electric guitar. Both are great quality. Tommy

    Polka Dots revisited

    Ask me a question

Comments about Fender Artist Series Buddy Guy Polka Dot Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have seen this guitar and read about it. I do not expect it to be different from any other MIM strat except in it's looks. Now Dr. Harmonica said he could not stand the tasteless dots on the guitar and questioned Buddy Guy's taste and skill. It only shows this guy is not too bright. But when I read his review it shows that he owns the guitar. Now why would a guy who hates the looks of this instrument but it. Either what he writes is not true or he buys stuff to complain about it. Anyway I would ignore this review and go and test the guitar for yourself. PS I do not particularly like the dots but if the thing plays good than that is good enough for me.

Comments about Fender Artist Series Buddy Guy Polka Dot Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I know buddy if you knew the story about the polka dots you would respect him for it.And I told her, to perk her up and feel better, that I was going to Chicago and I?m going to get a job and I?m going to buy her a polka dot Cadillac and come back and make her laugh and smile ? a big old brand new polka dot Cadillac to let her know how well I?d done. "I forgot about that after she passed and gone and didn?t think about a polka dot guitar 'til some years later. She died in 1968 and I think the polka dot guitar is about 10 or 12 years old now, maybe a little older."

Comments about Fender Artist Series Buddy Guy Polka Dot Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar from MF yesterday. IT was set up great right from the box. It sounds as good as any Strat I have with the exception of the hot rodded ones. I have 30 of them. I love the dots. The finish is flawless. The neck is perfect. The frets are dressed. The pickups more than deliver. Its a very nice addition to my guitar family. I will be gigging this little girl on St. Paddies Day. It is a very good value.

Cool tribute to Buddy Guy. I have lots of fender guitars. This one is instant cool. Mine has high end pickups in it. It'll hang with any good Strat. Those dots are good fun and that's worth a few extra bucks, not to mention the alder body. Nothing cheap about this baby

Nice Guitar with a Unique Look.

Comments about Fender Artist Series Buddy Guy Polka Dot Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I gave this guitar an eight for features because it has the same pickups in it as the Mexican "standard" strats. These are the pickups with two magnets glued to the back of steel pole pieces. I find them muddy sounding, and they just don't have the sparkle and bite that I am looking for in a strat. The apealing parts of this guitar are the vintage style bridge and slotted tuning machines, the nice "v" shaped neck profile which feels substantial in your hands without being too "club" like, the bone nut, and of course the paint job. I got the red one which has vintage looking off-white dots, very nice. I also like the fact that they used the Fender spaghetti logo on the front of the headstock, along with Buddy's signature, and put the "made in Mexico" sticker on the back side. As far as playability, this guitar is a pleasure to play. The action on mine was great right out of the box with no buzzing or fretting out, even when bending notes past the 12th fret. It comes with 5 springs on the tremolo which makes string bending easy, but makes whammy operation a little too stiff for my liking. I may try removing one or two springs, as long as she snaps back in tune after a dive. All in all this is a very nice guitar at a great price, which allowed me to afford a set of Fender custom shop pickups (Fat 50's) to drop in her. This will create a unique looking blues machine which I will gig with without any worries. I presently own 12 Stratocasters of American, Mexican, Japanese, and Korean origin, as well as a few "home built" versions and each one is a little different. This one is certain to become one of my favorites.

    Performance Over Asthetics

    By Robert Massman

Comments about Fender Artist Series Buddy Guy Polka Dot Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Purchased in August 2005, this is the red w/white polka dot version. Initial impressions, I thought the bridge pickup was a little lacking. However, going through my POD-XT, G-DEC or a Cyber-Twin amp I find the bridge pickup was fine. I'd chalk my former complaint up to an imcompatibility with my somewhat dated Crate Amp (although I do not fault Crate for this. Sometimes certain set-ups are imcompatible for a myriad of reasons). Anyone that lowballs their rating on this guitar because of appearances... I would suggest that next time they either look at the pictures before ordering or realize that looks are a distant second in the overall order of things. I played several of these guitars before ordering (from another site) and found the performance of the guitar overall and especially the electronics to be consistent. While this is guitar does not exactly compare to the more expensive Buddy Guy Signature edition, it is definitely no dawg. Since my purchase I have since added onboard tube and overdrive boards, but find more often than not that I leave these gadgets off and play with basically the original configuration. It's solid and lends itself readily to more styles than just blues, however it handles blues duties in an exceptional manner. I have American and Custom Shop Strats, but I am constantly amazed at the quality of workmanship and performance coming our of Fender's Ensenada factory. In my book, they have their act together... especially in their blues-targeted products.

Comments about Fender Artist Series Buddy Guy Polka Dot Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This guitar is a great example of individualism in the guitar industry. It's a fresh new creation by the fender custom team, and the polka dots are a great way of making it stand out. If you have ever heard Buddy Guy, you will agree that his sound is amazing, and if the custom team replicated that sound, then it seems like a great steal.

Comments about Fender Artist Series Buddy Guy Polka Dot Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Do you honestly base your opinion of artists on someting as trivial as the style of their guitar or the way they dress? I think its a rockin guitar and would be a fan of buddys music regardless of his instruments finish.
