Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Was hesitant to purchase online but upon arrival all my concerns vanished. An absolutely stunning guitar (in Olympic White) and feels/plays like a dream. MF listed the guitar as a Used 2 - equal to a demo unit - honestly, I have not found a single sign of use. Original packaging was removed, that is about it.

Required very light adjustments upon arrival. Most likely due to cold and shipping.

A great guitar at an even better price. THANKYOU MF!

      Blown Away

      By Josh Mize

      from Arkansas

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Honestly, I bought this from musicians friend and was scared to order one this expensive without playing it first... I am so glad I did. It's tone, playability, cosmetics, and quality are unrivaled. Even if you don't like Mayer, you have to respect the man if you like well designed guitars.. If the price jumps up... It would still be worth it. The white is set off well with the mint green pick guard... Best money I have ever spent.
Big Dipper Pick ups and that wonderful thicker neck. Over the top. The gig bag that comes with it really impressed me and I like to maintain some pretty high expectations.. Tuners are great, the fret board plays like butter...the frets are just right and aren't so sharp that your finger will snag on them.
After playing through every strat in a local store looking for the best feel and tone, the winner was a MIM strat.. I bought it and it has played better than every other strat I have ever picked up until this one.. Out of the box the set up was perfect... I can bend the strings ruthlessly and it will stay in tune which is a new experience.. What a well built machine.. Very beautiful guitar.
The big dipper sound alone is worth the money... If you're looking to nail that John Mayer tone... This is your baby..

      A TRULY GREAT STRAT

      By David Lee

      from Undisclosed

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This is an absolutely great blues guitar. And, as you would expect, it nails the Mayer tone perfectly. Tremendous sweetness. The pickups must be vintage output because I had to boost the volume on my amps a bit when I started using it. As others have correctly stated, the pickups give you very creamy, clear, rounded trebles with no hum. And the bass response is good. I love the scooped mids. In short, the pickups are as close to perfect as I've heard. And, the neck simply could not be slicker, faster, or more playable.....it too is perfection, actually. As nicely done as the INCASE gig bag is, this guitar is of such high quality that it certainly deserves a hardshell case. It also deserves a modern truss rod configuration. Despite those detractors, I have to give this an overall rating of "10" because the big-picture evaluation overrides the few drawbacks. I will never get rid of this guitar. PLEASE NOTE: Should you purchase one of these, be aware that, for some reason, FENDER has instructions on the gig bag that the guitar must be left in the gig bag at normal room temperature for 24 hours before opening to avoid finish damage. I've never seen this before and, believe me, it is an incredibly frustrating directive.
As has been stated in several previous reviews, the neck and the pickups on this Strat are what sets it apart and that is correct. The fingerboard on mine is a beautiful, solid, unstreaked piece of rosewood that is so black that it looks like Ebony. 6105 Dunlop frets. Great choice to have the larger frets. The shape of the neck and the finish on the neck is phenomenal - it couldn't be improved upon, as is the case with the pickups. The INCASE gig bag is actually more of a hard case than a gig bag and, as others have noted, was a pleasant surprise. Vintage truss rod adjustment at base of neck. This is what causes me to give this a "9" in this category instead of a "10." Standard vintage tuners and trem unit with five springs.
My point of reference for evaluating this guitar is that I have owned a FENDER Eric Johnson Strat since 2006. I feel, and everyone else who has played that guitar feels, that it is the nicest Strat they've ever played. It is featherweight and has the absolute best neck and best pickups of any Strat I've ever heard.....until I purchased this John Mayer Strat. The Eric Johnson Strat sounds like what a Strat should sound like in your head but never seems to sound like in actuality. As difficult as it is to say that the John Mayer Strat is "better" than the Eric Johnson, I would have to say - and I am still pinching myself in disbelief - if I could only have one of them, I would have to pick the John Mayer model and, actually, there wouldn't be much hesitation. The neck and the pickups are just that good. What causes me to give this a "9" in this category is that the fret ends on the treble side of the neck are not smooth as they should be. I bought a Korean-made $1,200 FERNANDES Retrorocket Elite last year that had the most impeccable fretwork I've ever seen on any guitar. So, there is no excuse for FENDER to turn out something of lesser quality.
Were it not for the fact that I think all guitars these days are overpriced, I might well give this a "10." However, I am so glad that I now own this that it kind of hurts to give it a "9." Except for the lack of smoothness of the fret ends, the finishing on this guitar is beautiful. As I said, the placement of the vintage truss rod adjustment access is, to me, inexcusable. The body seems to be every bit as light as my Eric Johnson. The tone of the guitar is fantastic. I have no problem, as others did, with bent notes above the twelfth fret sustaining. Not an issue. The factory set-up was off in that the action was set too low and there was a good deal of fret buzz. It really comes down to the neck and the pickups, and as someone has already asked, "do the neck and the pickups make it worth it?" The answer, to my mind, is, without a doubt, "YES."

      mayer strat

      By christopher gelecky

      from buffalo N.Y.

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

i think your paying mostly for these pick ups because the guitar is pretty much just a standard american strat , how ever the pick ups are great and the neck is great , the case candy is cheap , but the case suprised me i was thinking the worse put its pretty nice
all in all its a better then average strat but not that much better , the guitar has that mayer sound and is great for blues
i think the guitar is a bit over priced.
i got a good deal on mine so im keeping it.
best feature are the pick ups and the neck amazing sound
      its basically a american standard
i expected a bit more from a signature model
      ugh

      Best Guitar I've Owned

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This guitar is just amazing all around. To start off, it sounds great. Even if you aren't a fan of his music, anyone that can appreciate a good Strat will like this guitar. The pickups are legendary. You could just buy an American Standard for 1000 and buy Klein S-5 Pickups (Big Dipper clones) for 200, but here's why I dished out the extra 400 dollars. The neck on this thing feels amazing. The Dunlop 6105 frets make a huge difference. It is so much easier to play than other American Strats I've tried. The vintage tuners and beautiful sunburst finish are also great. The gig bag this thing comes with is pretty nice. It's made by Incase, is strong, and has lots of pockets and features. I probably wouldn't put it on an airplane, but if you are carrying it around by yourself it does a great job.

      Great pickups

      By NewMartinFan

      from Midwest.

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Some have criticized the Mayer Signature as a dressed up American Standard Strat. In essence, that is true. It is an Standard Strat with a higher level of finishing (i.e. vintage tuners) as well as upgraded pickups. On the latter point, the big difference between the two models is the Big Dipper pickups in the Mayer signature model. To my ears, they sound the same as standard pickups but with more rounded trebles. To me, high notes on standard strats can sound thin and slightly piercing. High notes with the Big Dipper pickups sound round, sweet, and creamy. Very, very nice improvement, IMO. Are the pickups worth $600 price difference? To me, yes. To someone on a tight budget, probably not.The (tricked out) gig bag that comes with the guitar instead of the traditional hard case is actually quite nice and I expect would be preferred by gigging players. However, if you have a 4-year-old who likes to walk on your guitar cases, the traditional case would be better.Overall, I'm not sure this guitar represents the absolute best value in the Fender line, but the Big Dipper pickups make it a must have for some like myself who are very particular about their tone.

Limited Edition Black1 John Mayer Signature

      By Squarelife91

      from Montreal, QC

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Although mine is one of the Black1's of the 500 run. After a week of gigging and dragging the guitar around, here's my road test report.Features are almost standard fare on your average american strat. The upgrades are really cool though. Schaller tuners, can hold a tune for hours even days of strenuous bend heavy techniques, blues jazz country anything very vocal-like. The neck is cool because of the glossy face but a satin back, I have yet to come across a guitar so smooth. The african rosewood sounds deep and smoky, but feels like maple. The bridge is flush with the body and comes with 5 springs on the tremolo, so without removing a couple or seriously abusing it, dive bombs are gonna be a bit hard at first but this guitar is meant to be played more in a hard tail style anyway. Being clumsy as I am I did drop it once right on its face. Being a fender, this thing didnt even take a scratch. The case is another thing, all the portability of a gigbag (ok a bit heavier) but with the protection of a hardshell. Last for the features are the pickups which just scream mayer even through a crappy 5watt solid state. Hendrix, SRV, Clapton, this guitar does his heroes and mine justice. Not to mention it's drop dead gorgeous. You can play it an T and jeans or tux and tie.Quality vs value? Well, you get what you pay for, in todays economy. The incase cases alone are 300$ starting to give you an idea of what you're getting. Worth every penny for the serious musician. This thing will probably outlive me, and being the limited, it's only going to gain in value.Overall this guitar is fitting of the fender legacy, if this guitar can't do it, it hasn't been done ... yet.

      Fender John Mayer Signature Stratocaster

      By Ezekiel-r-VBd

      from Mesa, Arizona

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

A well-made Fender. I'm not a big fan of their artist models, but this one wasn't bad at all. I prefer to use a maple fretboard rather than rosewood, but the neck and fretboard were just fine and dandy. If you dig John Mayer then this might be your stop, but I only played because it's a quality instrument. I would recommend the American Deluxe Stratocaster over this any day, but if you like Fender's artist series thing, then this is a good match for a good price.

      Does Not

      By Advocating2

      from Wisconsn

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I own this guitar in the Cypress Mica. At first I wasn't sure about the custom wind on the pups because the guitar was not as loud as I was used to. I got accustomed to it, and now I prefer it: Less hiss, great creamy tone, and a perfect recording guitar too. It does not "fret out", and it has never fretted out, even with huge bends. I have another strat: '57 Reissue, that did that, but that was fixed by setup. This one does not. The quality is just perfect. I grab this one more than my custom shop.

      I love this strat

      By StratsRock

      from Temecula, Ca

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

after years of pining for a strat, I have found the one. I played the Eric Clapton model, Yngwie and Eric Johnson models. Not to take anything away from those guitars, they are really nice in their own right, but this one feels "just right" to me...don't know how to explain it, you just have to pick one up for yourself. Trust me, you won't be disappointed
