All up a nice instrument and it is a nice replacement for my Strat American Standard.
Nice guitar and good value. Have yet to test its potential, but certainly looks great and well set up.

I've been reading reviews on the Mark Knopfler Signature Strat for some time. I finally bit the bullet and ordered one. I own a stable of great guitars including Melancon, Gretsch, Martin, Rainsong, and Rickenbacker. First I noticed that many of the dealers cannot keep this model in stock. It keeps flying off the shelf. Earlier reviews sometimes mention problems with the finish cracking, but it's a nitro finish that is great for sound but doesn't tolerate extreme changes in temperature well. My M. K. Strat is perfect out of the box. Since it was delivered in cold weather it had a red tag that warned to let it adjust to room temp for 24 hours before opening. I was dying to get my hands on it but waited. I understand now how Knopfler is able to fingerpick on a strat and sound so well. Fingerpicking on this guitar is a dream. All the marketing about the neck of this guitar is also true. It is fast and very comfortable. It has great sustain and tone range with the 5 way selector. I can't believe that I have spent a total of 8 hours fingerpicking on this strat and my fingers are not shredded bloody slivers of flesh. My biggest problem is having to put it down to accomplish domestic chores This guitar is beautiful. I plan to make an effort not to subject it to radical changes in temp. I love the look but sound quality is always my first concern. Pumping through a RE-20 space echo gives me shades of Hank Marvin and the Shadows. It's easy to see why Knopfler was greatly influenced by him. My hat's off to the luthiers at Fender. This one is so different from the others I own. I am throughly satisfied.

Ok. Right off the top I'm going have to say that the paint job on my MK is horrible. It chips and cracks by just looking at it. That said, I love this guitar. The rosewood neck fits me perfect and I've been a fan of the TS pickups since I got my SRV strat in 1992. The clean tone I get through my Marshall Bluesbreaker amp is classic and breaks nicely with a touch on the "green" pedal. This thing is a player

When I get done with it!! I bought this guitar when it first came out and have since sold all of my other electrics, this is all I need. It plays like a dream, sounds exactly like MK's tones and just generally rocks. Worth every cent?

I honestly can't believe the tone you get for the price with this guitar. I wasn't in the market at all, but when I started to play it, I couldn't let it out of my hands. I traded in my American Strat with noiseless EMG active pickups in order to come up with the money. I probably fell in love so much because I am the biggest Kopfler fanatic I have heard of. This guitar is the real deal! Trust me! It has a deep, clear tone with and without distortion, and it really plays itself. The larger frets make bends easy and comfortable. The case (although it really shouldn't matter) is amazing. Best of all, though, it gives you that sweet Knopfler sound and much, much more. Unless you play hard rock or metal, you won't be disappointed should you choose to buy it.

I own an older Stratocaster that makes SRV wannabes weep as it goes from surf to sweet to dark; then evil. This is the only production one I ever picked up that sounded like it. So, if that is what you want, then I'd check this one out.

This guitar is amazing. If you're looking for some great tone that can fit into a number of different styles, check this out. The texas specials are awesome, and really responsive. Probably the best strat I've ever played.

This Strat is an exact copy of Mark's main guitar. The Sultan of Swing himself used his cherished 1961 Strat extensively while fronting Dire Straits. Although Mark played many other guitars (including Schecters and Suhrs) during his successful carreer, his favorite axe remains a red Fender Stratocaster guitar made in 1961. The MK Signature has a set of three custom-staggered Texas Special single-coils and five-way pickup switching. Fender/Gotoh tuners and an American Vintage tremolo system round out this Sultan of Swing.

I just received my MK Strat; I've been playing it for the last two hours! I had to take a break to write this review (and give my fingers a rest). This guitar is GREAT! The fit and finish are perfect, and the set up was great right out of the box! The vintage finish and tuners on the '62 neck, combined with the light-weight ash body, really give the guitar an "antique" look. You can't beat the look of a real lacquer finish (doesn't look "plastic"). I am playing through a Line 6 Flextone III plus, so I can get about any sound you would want from this set up. (By the way, the Flextone is the best amp I've played through....ever)! If you're a MK fan, or just want a collector guitar (they won't build these forever), then get this guitar. Richard Bennett uses this guitar extensively on Shangri-La, and it sounds killer. Can't wait to fire-up Cubase and lay down some killer tracks of my own! (I hope Mark approves ;) Now if I can just figure out how to get Mark to sign MINE....hmmmm
