Fender

The most affordable humbucking pickup-equipped Jaguar ever made.

The Blacktop Jaguar HH delivers monster dual-bucker tone without breaking the bank. Vintage-style Fender Blacktop alnico humbucking pickups deliver the hot high-gain power of today's most aggressive sounds; other distinctive touches include skirted black amp knobs, Adjusto-Matic bridge with anchored tailpiece, slinky 24" scale, and one lean and mean three-way toggle switch rather than the customary barrage of Jaguar controls. Features include an alder body, maple neck, 9.5"-radius rosewood fretboard, 22 medium-jumbo frets, gloss urethane finish, and nickel/chrome hardware.

I played one at a G.C. a while back and loved the feel, very comfy while playing sitting down as well as standing. I reccommended this to a co-worker who has small hands and "can't play a Strat". Being as this is a short scale, he said it fit great and bought one on the spot.

I got mine for Christmas and would have been delighted except the silver color was more of a greenish-taupey kinda shade and not very silver at all. There was also an issue with the neck having a very rough spot. Obviously both faults were with the QC that day at Fender and not the fault of Musician's Friend.

So I sent it back and ordered the black one as I felt it was a safer color choice. It arrived and looked extremely cool, just stark black and chrome. My other 4 guitars all have single coils so i was amazed at the sound the HBs on this delivered. the tone was creamy and full, very pleasing to hear.

My hands are rather large so things get a bit tight above the 14th fret, but its a real blast to play, easy to move around on and the neck is smooth as glass. couldn't be happier with it. I've played guitars that cost 4 times as much and didin't feel, look, or sound as nice as this.
Fender Blacktop Jaguar HH is a great buy.
---Thank you Fender and Musician's Friend both.

I bought this guitar because I moved back to the States from overseas and my good gear is still in transit for the next 2 months and i didnt want to be without a guitar. Found this at a local shop for a good price. If youre thinking about it you need to understand that youre getting a guitar that was designed to be sold in a certain price bracket and as such some craftsmanship and quality is sacrificed. ALL of the frets needed extra filing to line up with the neck so they dont scratch up your fingers and the guitar will need a setup, I found the action way too high for my taste. Most other people who reviewed this guitar here have replaced the electronics and I agree that is a must.
However, once you replace the pickups/pots/switch and have it set up, you wind up with a pretty good guitar for what you've spent.

Bottom line: if you're used to high end equipment this probably wont cut it (unless you want something to warm up on backstage) but if youre looking to take a step up from the lower end guitars this could be the one youre looking for, just know it will need some work before its truly ready.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Jaguar HH Electric Guitar:

Honestly, I was not a huge Fender fan and didn't expect much from a guitar in this price range. This guitar changed my opinion of Fender. I enjoy playing this guitar and it sounds great with out a really high price tag. The frets are a bit high is some places and gives you a bit of a bend from time to time, but the dual humbuckers have no hum, buzz, pops, or phasing issues at reasonable preamp levels. The pickup selection give this guitar a fairly diverse capability. The neck dark and heavy, both on for a great brighter rhythm sound, and the bridge for a solid and sustained lead tone. Considering on day to possibly upgrade the pickups, but out of the box I certainly enjoyed this guitar!

if you're looking for great quality and great tone, look no further - this is your guitar. i bought it because i wanted something i considered unique and couldn't be happier with that choice. after buying, i fell in love with the shape and took advantage of the squire jazzmaster sale late last year (another absolutely wonderful guitar but that's another review). as for the jag, i wanted the tuning consistency of the fixed bridge, the look and feel of the rosewood fret board (that i oil twice a year), and the black with chrome is tough. i play through my deville 410 and it sounds like a dream. everyone has their own personal taste and this one completely suits mine.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Jaguar HH Electric Guitar:

I purchased this particular model of Fender Jaguar in the Summer of 2010. There was one left, in silver, which was a bargain, for a MIM Fender. Seriously thinking about adding a Black model to my assembly of instruments. The body is alder and the neck is maple with a rosewood fret board, which is a good platform. One of the things that I like about Fender Jaguars (I have been playing them since 1964) is the 24 inch scale. It works well for those with smaller hands. Even though, this particular model does not have all the bells and whisles that a top of the line Jag has, it is a good solid guitar and the price puts it in a range that even a student can afford. Not many double humbucker guitars deliver as much as this one does. From the CBS style of headstock to the tail piece, it is one solid guitar. It is also a good base to experiment with different pickup assemblies, and other onboard electronics, since it is not expensive, even when it is not on sale. It can be set up for any style of music. Nothing wrong with the stock pickups, but I would say that they are more generic than Seymour Duncan, Bill Lawrence, EMG or Di Marzio models. This is where the type of music becomes a personal choice. I have experimented with all of the mentioned pickup manufacturers and find that the response to particular styles of music, depends on the choice of pickups and electronics. Two Pickups and a couple of potentiometers will not exceed the original discounted price, of this particular instrument, in most cases. This Jaguar is also inexpensive enough to cosmetically upgrade, which can make it, indistinguishable from its "Blacktop" roots. Just by changing out the knobs from the stock ones, to ones that are similar to the ones which came on the original Jaguar, will make a big difference, in appearance. Chromed metal rings around the humbuckers and the '52 Tele type of string retainer will upgrade the cosmetics, very well. It does change the appearance, considerably. The lack of a tremolo does not interfere with the playablility of this guitar. I like the bridge and tailpiece arrangement, as it is, since it is easy to set up the guitar, like it should be. It is a guitar that is fun to play, and could be the "number one," if it is tricked out for a particular venue. Very HOT RODable! No one can beat this price. And it is made in North America, at that!

Picked up a black one a few months ago(the silver looks great online but awful in person). Love the looks, always have been a Jaguar fan. Build quality is great, the finish was flawless, and the overall look is to die for. The electronics are a little on the cheap side, the toggle switch was noisy and the factory humbuckers left a bit to be desired. I replaced the scratchy switch, and replaced the bridge humbucker with a chrome Seymour Duncan JB, and suddenly this became a guitar worth double what I paid (including the upgrades). Think of it as a blank canvas to mold into an incredible guitar. I don't foresee needing any further modifications, and plan on keeping this bad boy for a very long time. At the price point, you won't find a better way to own a Jag, and I personally wouldn't be caught dead with a Squier in my hands.
