I love playing the guitar, we have become friends. The instument is very playable and thru my fender mustang amp, I can dial in any sound that I need. My other guitar is an Am. Strat and now I have the best of both both worlds
It is what it is. You know the features you are buying.
Initially, the back pickup did not work. Upon looking at the electronics, the solder and wiring job was very poor and the switch had to be replaced. I can't imagine that the instument was checked out to see it it actually worked. Fortunately, the is a Fender Service center down the street and it was fixed under warranty. Every thing elese about the guitar deserves at least an 8.
The guitar is nice but some work and money will have to be invested to make it a keeper. I assumed this before i bought it though.

This is great idea & long overdue to make an affordable tele with humbuckers. However there seems to be a problem with wiring under the pickup selectors. I ordered my candy apple red with maple neck, had it set up with new strings, etc.....corrected the string tree, which was drilled down to headstock with no spacer. Then while playing it would switch off and come back on. If you moved the pickup selector back and forth, you could get it back. So I exchanged it. The same thing is happening now to the replacement. Possibly a systemic wiring/soldering issue. I am going to have it looked at here, and if it can't be fixed, I'll keep trying for one that works, because I really like the guitar...I just want it play properly. Anyone else having these issues? or did I just get a bad batch.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Telecaster HH Electric Guitar (Maple Fingerboard):

This is a nice, solid, great looking guitar. I was surprized at how well setup it was; it plays beautifully. That fact that it was made in Mexico seems to make no difference, except in price and possibly it's re-sale value. My only minor complaint is I wish Fender had gone with standard tele knobs and not flipped the pickup selector switch orientation. I replaced the "amp style" knobs with standard tele chrome style knobs and am having the pickup selector switch and volume / tone re-fitted like a standard traditional telecaster.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Telecaster HH Electric Guitar (Maple Fingerboard):

I love telecasters. I now have seven of them (including a G&L ASAT). It's a sleek/beautiful body style, but I am not into the twang. That's where the alnico HH pickups come in. BTW, the bridge pickup was DOA, and I had to send the guitar back. As always with Musicians Friend, this couldn't have been easier. After a professional setup (terrible fret buzz), my 2nd guitar was good to go.

I bought this guitar to rock, and these are some hot pickups. Power chords are as heavy as on any Gibson (okay, Epiphone) I've played. My problem is that I am a sloppy player, and the maple fretboard seems to magnify every flubbed note when I am trying to pick something. It's a really noisy/unforgiving guitar. I *really* wish that I had gone with a rosewood neck.

When I play it a just little overdriven, it's much more forgiving and has a very well-rounded tone for an electric. That's not enough of what I do for me to justify the purhchase, and my American Tele is better in that area anyway.

I've had this guitar about two years, but it hasn't been played more than probably ten hours. I think that I will sell it.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Telecaster HH Electric Guitar (Maple Fingerboard):

4 out of 5 stars only because the 3-way switch was bad, but several reviews suggested this so I bought a better switch to put in it and a bigger capacitor and rewired it the way I wanted it. The tone is stellar. This is my new #1 guitar now. My Gibson Les Paul may be jealous, but I can't say enough about this guitar. The neck and frets are perfect. This is one solid guitar for a fraction of the price of what I would expect to pay had I designed it myself. I would (and just might) buy more of these without hesitation. My favorite feature? A Tele that doesn't have that annoying twang or noise from single coils, and these humbuckers sound amazing. Nice & tight response. Cleans up great & can get downright mean when I want it to. THANK You Fender. This is the guitar I've been searching for since I began playing guitar.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Telecaster HH Electric Guitar (Maple Fingerboard):

I spied this guitar at a local shop in town and decided to trade my old 7 string in for a new six string to customize.I love fender guitars for the signature twang they possess, and strangely this tele seems to have it too even though one might think humbuckers would change that. That being said, the pickups have a really great vintage hot voicing that nails a classic rock/blues sound. However, they lack the output to really handle metal levels of overdrive/distortion. I like the neck dimensions, feels comfortable in my medium sized hands. The gloss finish on it kindof kills it for me though... but a little work with some steel wool or high grain sand paper outta clear that up. The gloss on the fretboard actually feels quite nice, but the fret edges look a little shoddy. Other than that they are fairly level and there are no bothersome frets in particular. The bridge is quite uncomfortable for resting the base of one's palm, but its tolerable. The skirted amp nobs are a nice touch, as are the reverse controls. Tuners are average, but serve their purpose well. Other than that is is a fairly simple double humbucker telecaster. It really is truely what you pay for, but it serves a great modding platform and isnt bad in the quality department for a lower priced guitar. All in all, its a double bucker tele with a unique look and a unique sound particularly good for jamming some Zeppelin.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Telecaster HH Electric Guitar (Maple Fingerboard):

I've been playing guitar for almost 20 years now and never have I been more disappointed than I am with this guitar. I would usually buy single coil Fender but I really was curious to see how these blacktops fared against the others. I read a some reviews and all seemed good so I went ahead and spent my hard earned money and never in my life have I been so disappointed with a purchase of any kind. The humbuckers on this guitar really kill the vintage Fender Tele tone but they don't compare to anything on the Epiphone side. Basically, in my opinion, if you want something with humbuckers, buy a les paul, and if you want that vintage Fender tone buy a Fender with single coils.

My Blacktop Tele w/maple finger board play great right out of the box. No fret buzz and nice action. I brought it to my guitar tech after a couple of weeks and had it set up and it plays better. I would definitly recomend this guitar. The only thing I wish is that the body didn't have the contour like the Strat.

Bought this one in the used section from MF. It's a great guitar. If you are just starting out this would be the one for you. Very playable neck with a great sound. If you take it on the road might want to tweak the bride pickup for better highs. I put in a DiMarzio super distortion and it is just killer tone with searing highs and a powerful bottom end. That along with locking tuners ii's a rock and roll machine. For the price I paid you cannot go wrong.

The sum of the whole is greater than the parts

            By Itzed

            from Maryland

Comments about Fender Blacktop Telecaster HH Electric Guitar (Maple Fingerboard):

I own lots of guitars, and this one really has some staying power. I love the high gloss American-like maple neck, the frets are nice, and the humbuckers are quiet with high output. The neck pickup can sound a little dark when playing clean, but when using distortion it really sings and produces a Trower like tone with real sweet sounds in the middle part of the neck. Both pickups sustain very well with a little gain, nailing lots of different rock sounds. Yet at the same time, the 25-1/2" scale, bridge, and saddles, can still yield a definite Fender sound, and dare I say, almost a twang. Tis is a very versatile guitar.
The humbuckers really sing, the high glossy neck is a a real beautiful delight, the reversed knob and switch plate stays out of your way during hard strumming, and the bridge is minimal and secure and doesn't transmit all that usual tele chime and ring. The other parts are standard mexican issue: cheap plastic nut, normal tuners, adequate saddles.
It's hard to rate this guitar for quality without standing back and recognizing this is a Mexican strat. So with that in mind, realize and accept that it's going to need a complete set up when it arrives. The neck was bowed, the saddles and intonation needed to be adjusted, and the nut needed to be cut with deeper slots. However, if you expect that, then what you are left with is a pretty decent quality instrument. The finish on the neck was even and beautiful, the frets were well finished and more importantly, even and level, and the tuners hold well.
This guitar is a terrific value for all the features you get. If I were to order my own custom tele, it would have st these same features, and getting them from parts after starting with something else would be a real pain, and end up costing a lot more.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Telecaster HH Electric Guitar (Maple Fingerboard):

I gave it a 6 because of the set up, fret ends, super concave neck, high nut and loose cable jack
            No nonsense features
For the price it seems pretty good. I bought it at GC and there was NO set up, none of the guitars on the wall were set up. It took me an hour to do a full set up but I feel that the nut is cut too high. I do like it though. I just play with friends in the garage so it fits my personal needs.
            Guitars are over priced, period.
