Comments about Fender CD 280S Dreadnought Rosewood Acoustic Guitar:

My family has recently begun making regular weekend camping trips. I wanted an acoustic guitar to play around the fire. My only acoustic is a Martin that my wife bought for me back in 2003. It was too expensive and means too much to me for me to take it camping, so I began looking for an inexpensive guitar that wouldn't sound cheap.

I hit a home run. This guitar sounds great. No, it doesn't sound as good as my Martin, but it's about 1/3 of the price and actually sounds better than the entry level Martins or Taylors.

I wouldn't say that it was "bright" because I don't want to give the idea that it sounds "trebly." It's a very balanced instrument. For my tastes, it's a great balance between warm and bright.

The top, sides, and back have a heavy gloss finish (not my taste). I was afraid that the tone would suffer, but it doesn't at all, and I *love* the satin finish on the neck! This guitar is easily the equal of most guitars twice its cost.

Note, I probably wouldn't have bought this guitar if I had realized that it is made in China. I wanted to mention that to any of you who might care to know.

Comments about Fender CD 280S Dreadnought Rosewood Acoustic Guitar:

I've had my Fender CD280S for about a year and I haven't really felt qualified to provide a review. However, I've now had a chance to play more guitars and recently bought an Alvarez AD-90 so I've got something to compare to.

This was my first guitar and I think I got really lucky. It has great sound, especially the bass notes. When capo'd up, it can be a bit tinny on the high e and b strings.

What I'm really impressed with is the set-up. It came out of the box perfect (I didn't realize how good it was at the time as I had little experience and no other reference - its way better than the Alvarez). Also impressive is its ability to maintain its playability despite dealing with a shift from 45% average RH in the summer to 20-25% in the winter (north-central Canada).
