OVERVIEW

Sublime design with classic tone and modern touches.

The solid spruce top on the Fender CD140SCE Acoustic Electric Guitar produces a lot of crisp tone and volume that the Fender/Fishman Aero electronics accurately capture. Equipped with a built-in tuner and a 3-band EQ with sweepable midrange, the Aero system is easy to use onstage to get a great amplified sound. The all-mahogany body adds warmth and roundness to the tone. A rosewood fingerboard tops the comfortable and fast nato neck. Black binding on the body and a uniquely shaped bridge gives the CD140SCE acoustic-electric a decidedly modern look.

I bought my CD140SCE about a year ago now, and i can honestly say that it is my single pride and joy taking the number one spot over my MM John Petrucci Signature and my starter pack bass that I stripped and rebuilt from the ground up. Out of the box, this guitar was pretty good. Action was okay to my feel and the factory strings seemed a tad flat, but hey, thats standard with any factory built guitar these days. So after tweaking the action and putting on a set of Elixer Nanoweb 80/20 Bronze, this baby sang like a song bird. The preamp is nice, and sounds good when plugged in, though by its self w/o a compressor you do get a decent amount of the Piezo pickup "barking" when you play. So to fix that I tend to use both the preamp and a good condenser mic (when applicable) to add the ambient guitar sound and level off some of that Piezo harshness. Other than that, this guitar oozes beautiful tone by itself when just played acoustically. Which raises another point, THIS IS A SOLID TOP GUITAR!! NOT A LAMINATED TOP!! For those not sure of the difference, here is a simple explanation. Solid top guitars develop better tonal quality with age and use (when taken care of, of course) and Laminated top guitars tend to warp and crack, and sound the same (if not worse) with age. If you do alittle research, you will find that this is the only acoustic within this price range with a true solid top, even the other fenders are laminated top guitars. This was the major deciding factor when I was shopping for an acoustic and I found that the other brands I was looking at (Ibanez and Yamaha) didn't have solid top acoustic in the price range. Overall this guitar is second to none. The tuner and preamp are great, neck feels fantastic (satin finish btw), the tuning knobs hold pitch very well, and the fact that you get this high quality from a brand like Fender makes the price that much better!!

I thought it would be a cost-effective guitar until I get it. The guitar does the job, but you have to give it a set up out of the box unless you can bear the fact that most of the frets on High E are muted.
After the initial set-up, the fret buzz of 13th fret of low E is seriously unbearable, but I think I will wait couple of months to see if summer can take this out.

My friend bought a YAMAHA at the same price, but you can play it right out of the box. If you decide to spend this amount of money, go with a YAMAHA.

It appears that you have a grievence with Fender, have they responded to your concerns , maybe you should take it back to the dealer.I too have this guitar and very satisfied with the value and quality , it sound similar to my $1500 guitar. No complaints here this guitar can take more abuse than my more expensive guitars and it costs much less.

So I got this guitar in store when I was about to advance from a beginner guitar to a intermediate guitar.I was looking for something with a nice deep tone, sleek body, and nice neck and this guitar has it all.It has a nice dark tone just on its own and this guitar is seriously sturdy.I've banged this guitar on walls, benchs, corners on things and my heavey electric guitar even fell on it once and it still sounds great(Has a dent though oops) This guitar isn't just intermediate level its for advanced and more. This guitar is absolutely amazing, sounds great, and looks great(I have the black looks pretty radd) plus it's cheap too which is wicked! This guitar is all around beast.Btw I'm 15

Comments about Fender Classic Design Series CD-140SCE Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I spent about two hours at a local guitar store playing through all the sub-$500 acoustic guitars. I played each one using various playing styles (finger-style, hard strumming, etc) and various genres of music. And, as you may have guessed, this Fender won out.

The first thing that's apparent with this guitar is that it's extremely comfortable. It is light weight, fits perfectly in your lap, and has low action with no buzz and a 9.5 inch radius neck (ideal for people with smaller hands). The second thing I noticed is that it projects its sound really well. The only other guitar I played that challenged the Fender in volume was a Takamine; however, the neck felt very fat and uncomfortable on that guitar.

Now that I've had the Fender for a while, I am very happy with it. Of course, it doesn't carry the warmth you can get from an aged, albeit more expensive, guitar, but it does stand at the very top of its price range. Buy it, you won't be sorry!

I purchased this guitar about a year ago. Since then I have changed the saddle to Tusq, use Boxwood bridge pins and EXP 11's. And can't be happier that I did the work myself. Plays great unplugged and I plug it through my Acoustic Lead Series amp, it sounds like the big boys. Sure it might need a little this and that, but what fun would that be having someone else do something you can do? You can say that YOU made your guitar sound better. Enjoy.

Comments about Fender Classic Design Series CD-140SCE Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for around 5 years now, it has held up, and has been a great friend for writing licks. It is not by any means a "professional" guitar, the electronics lack greatly and the pup sounds very muddy or too bright, not much middle ground. That being said it is a lower price range guitar and is by far one of the better ones in this range as far as acoustic capabilities go.

As far as playing acoustically (once set up of course; grind the bridge down a bit, adjust the truss) it is actually quite capable of filling pretty large rooms, i've used it for a few gigs, mostly off a mic, or with a separate preamp.

For an intro or intermediate guitar, this puppy is perfect.

Comments about Fender Classic Design Series CD-140SCE Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

For the money, I have not found an acoustic electric guitar that comes close to the Fender CD140SCE. I tried a lot of guitars in this price range that sounded like beginner guitars. This Fender has a nice rich tone with no buzz. It was playable out of the box with minimum tuning. The onboard tuner is also convenient if you like to change keys often.

Comments about Fender Classic Design Series CD-140SCE Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

My wife bought me this as a present so I would have a bedroom guitar to practice on when I wasnt in the studio. It is a lot easier to fall asleep with a under 300 guitar on top of an electric blanket than 2000.00 one.
I got so familier playing it that the unspectacular voicing started bothering me.
So I decided to revoice it. First thing to know is it is really overbuilt to handle abuse.
    Things I did.
    1. Thinned down all the bracing into parabolic arches instead of the straght scooped end form. I went from 5/8" to approx a little over 3/8" while thinning and rounding everything I could reach. The X-brace joint is pretty sloppy, so smoothing that out and making it more flexible worked wonders. Best advice is to take this kind of work slow and always consider where the string forces are. Tap, press and restring.. repeat untill it works without the top becoming flexible.
    2. Tusq Nut and bridge pegs.
    3. Only thing I still want too do is refret. I play too many jumbo wire superstrats.

After a couple a days of work I have a guitar that has a nice chimey voice and a tight bass. It will never compete with a highend acoustic, but it will hold its own in upper mid price range now. Best of all I am much more attached to it after putting some of my own blood into it ( hey razor blades are sharp).

Comments about Fender Classic Design Series CD-140SCE Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought a Fender CD140 Acoustic-Electric guitar in Sept. last year, but the button at the bottom of the guitar which is used for connecting cables is getting looser and looser and the screws slips. So that I could not connect it to the amp even!! And it is painful to contact the Fender service to have it fixed! In general, this low-level product of Fender is roughly made in detail. Compared with other guitars in the same price range, it should be your last option.

    Great Guitar Great Sound

    By Stephen Roughotn

Comments about Fender Classic Design Series CD-140SCE Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have not found an acustic electric guitar that can even slightly compare to the Fender CD140SCE.
I cannot give a 10 unless there are no problems and for me there was with the output jack. Since the output jack is also what the strp conects to whenever I would use it the jack would start to unscrew and many times I would have to unstring the guitar inorder to tighen the jack. However, I fixed this problem by putting a rubberband behind the nut and have not had a problem since.
Great price for a great sounding guitar.

This is a good guitar for the money. I previously owned a Fender T-Bucket 300CE, which costs about the same, but find this guitar to have a better sound. The tuner is helpful and accurate enough, and the onboard preamp/pickup sound pretty good. My only compliant is the build quality. The fretboard looks a bit unfinished on the high E side and the action is pretty high past the 12th fret. Overall, however, it's a useable instrument at a bargain price.
