Comments about Fender Classic Design Series CD-140SCE Mahogany Cutaway Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I was pleasantly surprised when I tuned this 12 string to standard pitch. The neck has stayed true and remains easy to play. I will drop it down a step for maintenance and capo it.
The dreadnaught body has a full and loud sound, and good bottom end with a nice jangly upper end. The stock Fender strings complement the tone. The strings felt comfortable to fret with a nice spacing of the pairs. The tuning keys are decent but feel light to the touch. They hold tune well enough and add good balanceto the headstock. A nicer set can be modded later.
The gloss is nice and not overbearing, giving a comfortable neck feel. The strings are set closely to each and after a couple of hours the feel becomes smooth and natural.
There is a solid resonance from the combination of features. It sounds as good as a full size dreadnaught entry level by Martin, Guild or Taylor series that are made in China. The Presys by Fishman souds good and complements the sound nicely. The tuner and tone features are nice.
I play good quality guitars, but a 12 string will see limited use. So, I did not want to spend a couple of Grand on a guitar to play sparingly. Most 12 strings I have played on over the years wore me out and were too much.
I play a J 45, Les Paul Custom, American Strat andTele and the 12 string will see occasional speciality use on the classic rock tunes. Nothing beats a real 12 string sound that sounds good.
