OVERVIEW

A modern take on a classic.

The Fender Classic Player Jaguar Special is an electric guitar that updates Fender's iconic Jaguar guitar with some thoroughly modern improvements: hotter pickups, a redesigned Adjusto-Matic bridge with floating tremolo tailpiece, a 9-1/2" fingerboard radius and a redesigned neck pocket with increased back-angle for improved stability and sustain. The Jaguar guitar's tremolo plate has been moved closer to the bridge to increase break angle and sustain. The Fender Classic Player Jaguar Special guitar has a screw-in tremolo arm that increases stability and control when executing dive-bombs.

i own a dozen Jags.... i am a jaguar connoisseur. i have cheap ones and expensive ones. Cheap does not mean they are not good and pricey does not mean they are ...
i wanted this one for specific shows and reasons and bought it. price was right.
i build, wire, change and modify guitars. i did not buy this one for that reason. but i had to.
I am a Fender fan. i also own strats, tel'es, 4 and 5 sting basses, amps, picks, straps...widgets.....
this is not a knock...i really hope someone from Fender reads this with ability to understand my point...

if this were the 1st Fender Jaguar i had ever purchased, i would have sent it back and never bought another.

the neck was so far out of adjustment that i had to take it off ...why... because you can't get to the truss rod adjusting screw...... the pick guard/pickup cover blocks the access.... and the neck was set to low... and the bridge could not be lowered far enough before it bottomed out on the adjusters... and it played worse than a cheap knock off 99 special.

but i wanted it... had some time.. and i kept it.

i shimmed the back of the neck with a wedge ( at heel) .... cut out the access for the adjusting screw in the cover, started to file the bridge adjusters on the bottom but went ahead and put on a roller bridge that adjusts better...

and the front pickup was literally at a 75 degree angle because the factory had tightened it down ( remember the neck was set wrong) and the wire from the switch was under the back...so the it was tilted like a listing ship at sea.

fixed that... adjusted the neck, sanded off that ridiculous varnish from the neck so it has a great ball bat feel.. put it all back together... made a tweak on the truss rod, set the bridge.... set the pickup height .. ..even used the string it came with.... because i would have put that same set on anyway. and now it is one of if not the best playing Jag i have.

but most people would not want it that bad. Leo would not be happy.

The saddle screws were loose in the slots and rattled. You could turn them with your finger. They only stopped rattling if you tightened them all the way, which ruins your intonation. My new guitar also came with a severely scratched up pickguard. It looked like a rough-cut piece of lumber. Pieces of plastic were sticking out from the screws, like parts weren't unwrapped all the way and shavings weren't removed after drilling holes. Bad craftsmanship overall for the price tag. I returned it.

Comments about Fender Classic Player Jaguar Special Electric Guitar:

My first jag hit my hands in 1964 and cut my guitar teeth on the Fireballs, Ventures, Astronaughts, Dick Dale. etc....I've had a few over the years since; both American an Japenese made models. All had that same problem the buzzing and staying in tune. Recently a classic rock band asked me asked me to start playing with them as they wanted to do a strictly surf set. I bought this MIM jag with some question in my mind??? But thought what the heck the price was right and I got 15% on a MF Labor Day sale. Wow was I surprised!!!! Perfect set up out of the box!!! No buzz and stays in tune. Sounds just plain awesome playing the old surf instrumentals and good for rhythm on the classic stuff of the 70's. If your looking for a jag without the old sound buzz etc....this is the one. The bridge is perfect no need for a replacement like the old ones. Comes with a fender deluxe gig bag also. Buy this guitar and you want be disappointed!!!

Comments about Fender Classic Player Jaguar Special Electric Guitar:

This Fender Jaguar is the easiest playing guitar I own and I've got a Gretsch, Gibson, Rickenbacker, etc. It doesn't have the sustain that today's hotter guitars have, but it does have that unforgettable '60s surf sound that no other guitar can match. I owned a Jag previously and it had terrible string rattle. Appraently, the issue has been cleared up as this one plays cleanly.

Yep, it's old school, but if that's the sound your looking for, the Jag may just be the guitar for you.

Comments about Fender Classic Player Jaguar Special Electric Guitar:

Just a brief review to let others in on a quality guitar. I bought this MIM classic style Jaguar because I already own a classic series stratocaster with essentially the same lineage and love it. This Jaguar is a blast to play. The fit and finish are on par with any American made Fender (even better in one case) and it sounds exactly as it should. Factory set up is very nice. The action is close and it plays fast. I don't experience the strings popping out of the bridge when I bend notes, but I am usually not very aggressive. It has that crisp, surfy vibe which is exactly why i bought it. I play Ventures, Hank Marvin, Dick Dale etc. enough to justify the expense. Perfect guitar for that genre.

The guitar comes with a gig bag which will have to do because this offset body is big and weird. You will have trouble finding a generic case to fit it. I replaced a Gibson SG with this guitar. The Jaguar is far more sturdy than the SG but not as heavy as one would expect. The wood is well figured on my 3 tone sunburst model and the tortoise shell pickguard compliments it well. The electronics work as they should.

I find myself playing this one more and more. Solid, attractive, great sounding and comfortable to play. I love it.

Comments about Fender Classic Player Jaguar Special Electric Guitar:

What an awesome guitar....the tremolo is very stable....the shorter scale is great for faster playability
The neck is 9.5 radius which I prefer ...just a little flatter than the typical 7.5
The switches open up a nice variety of sounds. The neck pick up a s full and complex and really sounds amazing
The bridge gives that change without being harsh or short on sustain.
The guitar is super comfortable to play sitting down or standing after a 2 hour gig.
Sounds ridiculous through my Mesa and Orange amps ...a full complex tone beautiful
          It's a keeper.
The red is like a Ferrari...stunning

Comments about Fender Classic Player Jaguar Special Electric Guitar:

The jaguar is hands down the most beautiful guitar I have ever played. The versatility and playability of it is just phenomenal. The action is as close as could be without any fret buzz. The pickups can give you a deep beefy tone, or something a little more treble nuanced, all depended on what you want. Definitely pick up a jag if you have the money to spare or are looking to buy a new axe for your collection. I don't understand why people complain about the bridge and say to get a mastery. Just buy some heavier gauge strings and save the $165+ a mastery costs. Overall, I could not be more happy with this guitar.

Comments about Fender Classic Player Jaguar Special Electric Guitar:

Questionable quality and uncaring customer service. The top pickup selector/switch broke after 6 months of owning this guitar. The Fender repair dealer (Triple S in Bloomfield, NJ) said it was damaged. Not sure how a broken switch is determined to be damaged and not a defect in the guitar. Fender agreed with Triple S and will not pay to have it fixed under warranty. As such, we have to pay for the repair out of pocket. Fender did not even try to look at the guitar and determine the damage to their product which is a bigger issue as it could affect other guitars. I do not recommend you buy this guitar or any Fender product. The quality is very questionable and the company refuses to stand behind it. Stay away from this guitar and go with a more established company like ESP, Ibanez, Gibson.

I've had a longer battle than most with finding my sound. I went from a Strat, to a Jackson Rhoades, to an Epi Les Paul, to a Mustang, to a Gibson LP Studio, and nothing had that it factor for me, until I got this bad boy. In a weird way, it has everything I loved about those other guitars, with none of the issues. Very stable tremolo, great fat tone that can get pretty nasally when I want it to, and a neck that feels like it's made of silk. I've finally found my sound, and I'm now a proud owner of a Jaguar.
