Comments about Fender Custom Shop 2011 Closet Classic Pine Stratocaster Pro Electric Guitar:

I don't know what more you could want from a guitar. It combines all the best features of the Stratocaster line. E.g., I really appreciate the contoured "cut-away" neck. Every Strat should have this. (If you don't know what this is: on the back of (most) Strat bodies there's a bulky square block with 4 screws which attach it to neck. This block gets in your way when playing past the 12th fret. This Pro Strat rounds off the bottom corner, allowing easy access all the way up the neck.

Another feature is the 2-point tremolo which (finally!) allows you to raise the pitch, not just lower it. The locking pegs means no more winding your strings around the pegs. You just poke your string through the peg hole, lock it at the back, and now it can't slip causing it to go out of tune. I love this. The sturdy metal rolling nut eliminates any friction allowing for friction-free tremolo action and bending.

The noiseless pickups stound full and warm but without that annoying hum. The Greasebucket Tone Circuit, smooths out the highs of your pups without adding any heavy bass or muddiness.

Ah yes, the jumbo frets! The other lead player in my band likes them too. His '62 reissue "Hendrix" Strat can't duplicate the action I have with these frets. They give you all the room you need to bend way up and they provide more room for your fingers when chording.

Aside from all the smart features that increase playability, I must mention the aesthetic features of this model. First, the "relic" look of the body. I was skeptical of this feature, until I saw it in the store. It is SO subtle, you may not even notice it. The guitar is super shiny as I hoped; it truly gleams. All you see if you look at it carefully in the sun are these wonderfully subtle aged "lines" (not cracks!). Kinda like what you'd expect on a priceless Stradivarius violin.

The big headstock is (to me) very cool. I like how the words "Fender Stratocaster" follow the curved contour of the headstock. (Sexy.) And the "tea stained" pickups add such a touch of class, like this baby has been around for a while and seen things. Funny how all these cosmetic features were not things I really wanted or cared about. But after owning this exceptional instrument, I really appreciate them. One final thing: I like that on the back of the headstock, you not only have the Custom Shop logo, but the date of manufacture which is hand written! How cool is that?

My advice is, don't fall in love with a guitar because of all the hype and glam associated with it ("Oh gee, Clapton played it so it must be great!"). Instead, try to keep your emotion at bay and look at the actual features that it has to offer. Then, if you find a guitar better than this Pro model, buy it with confidence.
