A Custom Shop Tribute to a rock & roll icon!
The Fender® custom Shop Yngwie Malmsteen tribute Stratocaster® guitar (a.k.a. the "play loud" guitar) is a meticulous reproduction of Malmsteen's beloved instrument. Produced in limited edition it is authentic in every detail, including the famous "play loud" sticker on the upper horn and, of course, the distinctive scalloped maple fingerboard.
Like the original, it features DiMarzio® HS-3 pickups in the bridge and neck positions and a standard Fender '70s-era middle pickup, with a standard Fender bridge, a large headstock, and a battered Olympic white finish expertly treated to mirror each of the original guitar's many battle scars—the nicks, dings, scratches, burns, and worn finish spots from decades of heavy use and abuse in Malmsteen's masterful hands.

Man- I just love this guitar, the completely destroyed finish makes it a dead ringer for an actual vintage axe. Only a master luthier could pull this off... the meticulously crafted scratches, the painstaking attention to each and every chip, ding, gouge, and scallop. It's just too bad the man-years of labor involved to achieve this level of beauty has elevated this guitar well out of my price range. Oh well, I forced to settle for the next best thing. I bought the actual original for less. It plays just as good and everything, but it's kind of old.
By the way, to those fortunate few who were lucky enough to get your hands on the replica, there is no longer electrical tape on the horn. An easy enough fix.

It is one of the most expensive items in my house, and swiping a plastic for it got me few calls from credit card company. However, I believe that the cost itself should not be a factor to judge this type of items.As a guitar, it has one of the best Fender sounds, along with EJ model. Compared to two YJM signature strats I had, this one is at the totally different dimension, at least the one I have (JS46x by Jason Smith).Connecting to a clean channel, you will easily hear the different tonality and clarity compared to YJM signature models. No matter it's overdrive amp channel or pedal, it cries with that distinctive old 'Yngwie' tone. Pickup's output feels somewhat higher than YJM signature and has very well defined and balanced texture of mid-high tone.I found that the shallow scalloped fretboard of this guitar felt actually better than YJM signature; the scallop is about a half (or less) of the depth.With its incredible details of original (crack lines on the head, belt lashes, bent jack plate and switch knob, dirtied fretboard, etc), it is rather a piece of art than just an aged, relic guitar.

However this giutar can make you homeless it is a true tribute to a guitarist who changed the world. Yes it does produce a similiar sound to what you heard on the first 5 albums and it does replicate the correct era and time YJM started his career. i do beleive it is a good axe but I prefer the standard signature. The cost seems stupid but the EVH costs more. This is for the collector with bread and not the striving artist. But I do beleive this thing scares Frankenstein, I am afraid (of cost, care and maintenance of this beast).

Ok, if you have some type of great guitar studio/museum/collection ... or even a Yngwie shrine for that matter, than maybe I can see fronting $$$# for a guitar like this. However, if you are going to purchase this guitar thinking that you are getting the best piece of musical equipment that fender has to offer than that is a different story. You can buy a vintage strat neck, strap it on an american strat body, spend the money on the best pickups and hardware and still have money left over. I cant see buying this just as another guitar to jam with.

Okay...mine is short and sweet. Excuse me while I go buy a PRS McCarty and a Mesa Triple rect, and still have about $5k left over...This is nothing more than a heavy relic strat. Stick a peice of medical tape with the words play loud on your yellow strat...scratch it up, there you go. Horrific value for the money. Plays like any other well set up strat.

Yo, listen, this is the nicest, the best and the most amazing guitar in the whole world okay when it arrived at my house, i played for 8 consecutive hour. i also love the concept. it also sounds grrrrrrreat. even tough it sounds exactly like a normal strat.

This guitar is astonishing. If your a fan of Malmsteen and have the cash then you'll love this guitar for the rest of your life and be happy with it. Its pricey but its a collectors guitars. If your looking for a guitar that has the tonal possibilities of this then you could definitely save yourself ten thousand bucks buying the Yngwie Malmsteen signature. This guitar is what it is. A Tribute to a Living Legend.
