Sorry but it's true. I've been so sick of copycat Strat wannabees, that I grew up hating anything Strat-like. Untill these Showmasters. And THIS one I particularly like. The EMG 81 is a clincher too, though two 81's would have helped the Value rating make it feel perfect for me. Even with the one it helps alot for the metalheads out there. It just screams tone. I still prefer my Hellraiser for it's overall sound, but this thing is definately on a short, "I need to have this", list. I finally found a Fender I can fall in love with.
I have taken this guitar on tour for over 2 years, and I have loved every minute of it. This guitar has smooth action and great tone. I also would recommend the telecaster.
I just got my Flathead Showmaster today, and am in love. This is the kind of guitar I can see myself playing forever. From the acitve EMG pickups to the Shaller Locking tuners, this guitar is first class all the way. The action is very nice and the finish on the back of the neck is super smooth. The Ebony fretboard is sexy with the silver crosses pistons. The crossed pistons are shadowed by pearl. There is also pearl side markers on the neck so you don't get lost on the bare fretboard. On the back of the headstock is a Fender Custom Shop graphic. Like I said earlier the Shaller locking tuners are very nice and definately do thier job. The neck is a bolt on and has a cool Fender Custom Shop base plate. The body is shaped nicely and is painted a flat black, which is very evenly done and looks smooth. The bridge is no frills, but does its job exceptionally well. There is one rebberized volume control and a 3 way pickup selector. The EMG pickups are sweet. There is a 60 in the bridge and an 81 in the neck, and they sound exceptional. The best part is the Fender guys put a battery compartment on the back that swivels out so you can change out the 9V battery in a hurry without having to go into the electronics area. The guitar comes with a super nice case that is lined in red velvet and inside is a leather strap, a cord, and cleaning cloth. Lastly Fender includes a custom shop bumper sticker (that I put on my case) and a very nice certificate of authenticity with embossed lettering that is signed with each guitar's serial number. Oh and just in case you didn't know this is the same type of guitar that the boys from Slipknot play, so if you are into harder Rock this is your guitar. I will cherish this axe forever.
