Had three guitars shipped to me. First, Pick guard laminate peeled off when label removed. Second, shipped without Fender Box or packing. Looked used. Pick guard looked like a wire brush had been used on it. Third, several strings needed intonation adjustment. Sixth string on ragged edge of not being able to adjust intonation. Guitar strung with ball end strings. Would expect Fender strings to have been used on Fender guitar. Have much cheaper Fender guitar with better craftsmanship and quality control. It is a good looking guitar but very poor craftsmanship, and very poor quality control. The concept and features of this guitar are among the best Fender has come up with. Musician's Friend has stood behind everything they promised. This is a Fender problem. Would reorder this guitar if the quality is improved.

If you want a guitar that has heavy distortion then this is not the guitar you want. It is perfect for my use as a Blues guitar. I play mine througgh a VOX AD100VT on the UK Gain amp selection with power output and gain to max. It absolutely Rocks my house making the bodies of the acoustic guitars resonate and strings to chime from the harmonic perfection of this guitar. Put power output and gain to 50% and play any pickup position and get crisp and clean tones. This guitar is not for everyone and especially if you want heavy distortion. I have +30 other guitars for that. The only other guitar I would want is a American Deluxe, but with a 12" radius neck, not a compound neck and a leftie strung right-handed. The 12" radius is best suited, for me, ergonomically. I got mine on Muscian's Friend as a closeout. Someone probably bought under the wrong assumption possibly thinking it would be good for Heavy Metal and expecting heavy distortion from some of the reviews I have read. How it looks, mine is a blonde, and the gold plating wearing off, who cares. For a under $1000 guitar I feel comfortable playing it at Jams and Gigs. I get the tone I want from it and have guitars with humbuckers to get all the other tones. For high gain and definition this is the best I have played. I have a American Special with the 22 jumbo frets and hot Texas pickups, but the neck feel and tone is unique only to this guitar.

I bought this one used (BARELY used at that!) from a store after trying different strats (American, Mexican, whatever). I was going for overall tone and feel.
Now, maybe the fact that it was used, and someone took the time to set it up properly, had something to do with the feel and tone (and maybe the others I tried were new and NOT "broken-in" yet), but this guitar immediately became the standard by which all of the other strats were compared.
A couple of others were nice, but this one did all that I wanted it to, AND at FAR less money! I bought it and have been using it professionally for almost a year.
True, the gold hardware is wearing thin at the bridge where I palm-mute, and a little wear on the vibrato arm, but the rest looks great. BUT, I should point out that it wears very evenly and subtly, so it's more of a patina-smooth look than just the "gold coming off" look. It's actually kinda cool.
I play a very clean sound with deep reverb and a bit of delay...sort of a Jimmy Wilsey sound, if you will. I play through the clean side of an American-made Hot Rod Deluxe thru an Earthquaker Ghost Echo, a Boss DM-2 and a hint of amp reverb...and I play pretty loud. This guitar just SINGS!!! Lots of tonal variations and QUIET! I love the vintage noiseless pups)! The only thing I did was change strings to 10's and intonate it, and adjust the string height just a bit.
So, especially for CLEAN playing, this guitar is a TEN...no, make that an ELEVEN!!

When I first ordered my deluxe's Fender stratocaster, I was amazed with the terrific sound quality & comfort of holding the stratocaster. Plus people would comment about the gold hardware with a 3-tone sunburst finish. This is my favorite strat to plug in and play!

I could not expect a better sound with these pick-ups and my twin re-verb.
Sure, I had to take the time and look up on Fenders site how to set it up, but so what? I needed to learn how anyway, this is definitely worth your money, I would recommend it. I'm not looking for anything else, this one satisfies my need for that classic Fender sound!

I reviewed this guitar earlier and was kind of brutal on it. I would like to amend my review by saying that the guitar has some wonderful features. The one I got must have been made on Friday and they were in a hurry to hit the cantina, or, they were still hungover from the weekend on Monday. What ever, the deficiencies that I discovered really saddened me and as a result I did ask to return the guitar. I ask for an exchange as hopefully I will get a great guitar. I am willing to give Fender the benefit of the doubt and give it another shot. I will review again only after a rigorous inspection of the neck and set up. This guitar should be worth the $650 we have to pay for it. Mine was not, but Musician's Friend does their utmost to ensure their customers are satisfied. I have no reservations about buying guitars from them as long as they keep up their great customer service.

This guitar lacks the quality value of some of Fender's better models. Although they have incorporated an ash body, noiseless pickups, vintage tuners and tremolo, the guitar just doesn't live up to it's hype. small defects such as poorly set tremolo screws, and a bowed neck are defects that should have definitely been caught by quality control. body and fretboard are nice and smooth, painting of the body was exceptionally good, the actual scheme of paint and the tortoise shell pick guiard makes this guitar look classic, however, the defects make it fall short.
Overall, I bought this guitar because of it's looks and based on fender's reputation for quality instruments, however, I should have probably saved my money and bought an american standard strat. I have an American standard telecaster and It was awesome right out of the box. still playing it with no additional setup needed. Fender needs to review it's mexico plant and get it's quality control up to speed if it's going to charge this kind of money for it's products.
I would try this guitar out, if you can find one in a store, before buying as it may be as good as advertised. Mine wasn't, but I can make it better, someone with less skills, may not be able to. I'll make this into a great guitar, however, I wish Fender would do it first.
I knocked off points for features as the so called "noiseless" pickups still emit a slight buzz. It's not too bad until you begin stomping pedals and adding gain, Then it gets a little annoying. I will have to isolate the cavities and pick guard with copper foil and re ground the system. but that should have been taken care of at the factory. Also, the extra switch does little to enhance the sound when engaged. It is barely noticeable. I bought this thinking this would be useful however, I don't think I'll be using it.
Although the guitar finish itself is beautiful ( 3 tone sunburst) there were some quality control issues with this guitar. first of all, I notice the screws hold the vintage tremolo were halfway out of the wood allowing the tremolo to float extremely high. the neck has a slight forward bow to it. I am going to have to take this to a luthier to get a professional setup done to get this totally playable. Also, I'm not too crazy about the 12" radius fret board. they should have used the 9.5" radius fret board, but, that's a personal preference.
I rated this low because of the quality control issues. the pickups do not sound as good as what I saw on the youtube videos which is why I bought the guitar. I may have gotten the lemon out of the batch, however, I am keeping it and getting the work mentioned above done to it because of the extremely good "bones" of the guitar, an ash body, rose wood neck (I can get used to it) noiseless pickups( when isolated) and getting the tremolo set up right. I would like to see a little better quality control from the plant if they're going to produce guitars of this price range. I think they are basically good guitars but need a little more "TLC" before leaving the plant for the warehouse and eventually the stores.
