    I just got this today so I thought I'd give everyone an idea about this guitar.

    First off, it's MIM, which isn't a bad thing. It's got 22 frets instead of the normal 21 that most MIM's come with. The large 70's headstock is nice. The finish is gloss polyester, including the back of the nicely figured lightly tinted neck. The neck has Fender's "Modern C" profile with a 9.5" fretboard radius. Not quite a vintage baseball bat and not quite an Ibanez Wizard neck, but somewhere in between. Regardless, it's comfortable enough for me. Can't figure out what a skunk stripe is doing on the back of a rosewood fretboard though.

    Texas Special p/u's and an onboard preamp. Yes, a Strat that takes a 9v battery! The preamp has six presets that are selected with the middle knob, formerly the tone knob for the neck and middle p/u. Now the rear tone knob acts as a master tone (and in case you're wondering, yes it does work on the bridge p/u). The preamp is engaged and disengaged by a push/push S-1 switch in the center of the volume knob. I don't think it's true bypass though, because there seems to be some tone loss when the preamp is switched off. The preamp takes you from "wiry" to "thick" tones, basically a boost for selected frequencies depending on which setting you choose. So naturally there is a significant loss of volume when switching the preamp off with the S-1 switch.

    The Texas Special p/u's are nice. They're Custom Shop designed and normally retail for around two hundred a set, so there's added value in this guitar already. They're overwound and more midrangy than your average vintage sounding Strat p/u's. For some folks this might not be a good thing. I had to play around with my amp settings (a Fender Mustang III V2 amp)to get the sound I wanted, but eventually I got there.

    The tuning machines are standard Fender diecast sealed tuners. They work fine. The Bridge is the "vintage style" trem, not everyone's favorite but I never use a trem so it really doesn't matter to me. The trem block seems solid and beefy, something that Fender seems to have been upgrading steadily over the past several years on all of their MIM's.

    I got the 3 tone sunburst finish with rosewood fretboard. With the 3 ply white pearloid pickguard and aged white plastic parts it's a real looker. It definitely looks like it would be right at home in a real roadhouse.

    In conclusion, for what they're charging for this guitar (only a hundred more than the MIM Standard) you're getting a boatload of added features that, if taken separately would probably push this guitar up to the American Std. level or beyond, it's a pretty sweet deal. Again, if you're a Strat purist who is chasing that vintage tone then this is probably not the one for you. But then again if you're a true Strat purist you're probably not going to buy MIM anyway.

    All in all, an extremely versatile Strat.

    Oh yeah, even though they don't mention it in the specs, it does come with the Fender Deluxe Padded Gig Bag.

    I needed a Strat for a few things so I thought I'd try this one. Ordered it from MF, it was out of stock, when I finally received it the bridge pickup is dead. Does Fender not check these guitars????? I had to send it back and of course I'm waiting for a replacement cause MF is out of stock again. I've been playing guitar for over 40 years and can safely say that the best guitars out there do not have Gibson or Fender on the headstock,,,,,,,maybe the older ones, but not the ones being produced today. I will give another complete review when I receive one that functions properly.

      Comments about Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

      This is the best Strat ever! The built in preamp allows more gain than a standard Strat without losing any Strat tone. Even at the highest gain preamp setting it still has all the attack and crisp tone you expect from a Strat, but with more dynamics and response to pick attack. I can play so lightly that the pick is barely touching the strings, but it still comes out full and sweet. And the more I dig in, the more it squeals. On top of all that the fit and finish are as good as any American Strat. It has the best playing neck I've ever felt. I like it even more than an American neck. It's got 22 frets like a USA Strat, and the Sonic Blue color with the pearl pickguard and aged plastic parts look super cool.
      And it comes with a really nice deluxe Fender bag. It's the best guitar I have ever owned at any price, and has rendered all my other Srats OBSOLETE. I couldn't be happier!

        Comments about Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

        I have 23 other guitars and 45 years of experience, and I finally decided to try this Strat. I have previously returned a Mex strat because of poor build quality, so I was skeptical, but this guitar is quality. The electronics are very functional and musical, though I have not yet experienced a single coil guitar that has the output of humbuckers. The S-1 switch is easy to use in performance.

          Comments about Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

          My guitar was set up perfectly and sounded incredible out of the box. I played it first on it's own without comparing it to my other strats because I wanted to see if I liked it. I've generally been an Ibanez and Gibson guy for the past 25 years but in the past few years I have learn to appreciate and like the sound of a Fender.

          In some ways, this comparison isn't fair because I have a 60th anniversary American Deluxe Ash strat with S1 and noiseless PUPs, an American hardtail with EMG David Gilmore PUPS, and a 50th anniversary with fender lace gold PUPs. At first I thought, wow... it sounds just as good as my other guitars but after playing them all side by side there are "some" advantages the others had on this one. All the other guitars were louder even though this guitar has the active tone controls. Each guitar has it's own sound which is why I still love this guitar. It sounded the most like my DLX Ash strat with the S1 pushed in and with this guitar set to the "thickest" sound. WIth the S1 button on my DLX Ash turned off and with the bypass on this guitar they both sounded quite different, hard to explain but the Texas Specials pickups sounded a bit brighter with a little better harmonics but more of that single coil hum. The Texas Special pickups were not as responsive or crisp as the EMGs or the Fender Lace but nonetheless, the sound is awesome. Lastly, although the fret edges are filed it was not as "smooth" as the other guitars although it's not anything you would notice when playing.

          If I sound harsh, don't get me wrong I love this guitar and in some ways I do feel I got lucky with the guitar I ordered from MF. The reason I've never liked Fender in the past is because it was so difficult to find one that didn't have fret buzz. However, I got a deal I couldn't pass up on this guitar and have always wanted a guitar with Texas Special pickups in them. In my "own" experience, even a professional setup can't get all the buzz out of some Fender or other guitars. I played probably 15 guitars before choosing my first fender. Because I am so picky, I don't often purchase my guitars online but this time I am glad that I did. Every "great" guitar has it's own unique signature sound even with the same strings, pickups, hardware, and wood which is why I always feel the need to play one before I purchase one.

              Comments about Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

              i bought an older version of the deluxe roadhouse - with the tortoise shell guard and the small headstock and regular, no-frills electronics.

              the look (minus the pickguard, which i hate) was flawless. the sound was great. the neck was smooth, fast, buttery.

              i'm on here because i'm considering buying another, and now...look at all those upgrades!
              ++colors
              ++better pickguard
              ++70s headstock - which i love
              ++upgraded electronics
              and...all for less than what i originally paid for mine!

              oh...and the setup, pickup height, frets and overall tone and feel of the guitar were great - right out of the box.

              if the new ones feel HALF as good as my old roadhouse, you and i both are really in for a treat.

              my one regret: i don't have the money to replace all my experimental guitar purchases with these!

                This guitar is a beauty to behold. Finish is imppecable. High quality. It feels and looks like an American made. Fender has packed a lot of value into a lower priced Mexican guitar. I have paid much more for much less guitar. This is destined to be a classic guitar. The neck feels good and the Texas Specials shine. The S-1 and pre-amp settings provide so much variety, you may need only one guitar for a gig. Well done, Fender.

                Comments about Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

                The six way switch is like having six amp presets right on the guitar. They basically go from rich and jazz guitar tone to thin and snappy. They all work with all five pickup switch positions. The single tone control works with all switch and pickups combinations. The S1 switch just turns the pre amp off. I'm not sure is using the S1 will allow playing the guitar without a battery. It does get a little quieter with the S1 switch depressed. I would have added the new Roadhouse Strat to my collection if not for the "fat" headstock but that is a personal preference.

                  Wow! I am so impressed with this guitar! The playability is like butter. My other electric is a 2010 American Standard Tele and, believe it or not, this one plays better. And the sound? Man o man o man! The Texas specials are fantastic but the active circuit makes them even better. With the circuit off, it sounds more or less like an American standard Strat but with the circuit on, it sounds like SRV's guitar. Get one of these if you can.
