I fell in love with Fender when I got my first MIM strat a couple of years ago and so I sold all my other electric guitars. I just didn't enjoy them anymore. I ordered this tele so I could try out Fender's other classic axe without dropping the cash I did to get my two new dlx american strats (ouch!). Well it exceeded my expectations. Now I am worried I have a new favorite. The finish is beautiful and the ash grain is very nice. The pickups are very satisfactory and everything about the guitar is rock solid. I added strap locks and Fender locking tuners because I think these are upgrades to any standard or vintage hardware, BUT I was almost sorry to take off the tuners because they were very good quality. I was pleasently surprised. I have a FSR Inca Gold dlx american strat and I have to say the multiple radius maple fretboard on it is a fraction easier to play (chording and bending mostly), but the glossy finish on this tele is hands down more beautiful and elegant to look at. I agree that how an instrument plays and sounds is the most important aspect, but when I open the Fender G&G dlx case I got for this guitar and see how fine it looks and pick it up and feel how hefty and solid it is I feel like I got a great value for my relatively small investment. I got the guitar and case from MF and they were both perfect. One turn on the truss rod and a minor adjustment on one of the saddles (I love the six individual saddles that even I can adjust easily) and it has stayed perfectly set up from day 1. I own two MIM strats (a Jimmy Vaughan and a classic player) and the two MIA deluxe models and I play this tele more than any of the others. I highly recommend Fender, Musician's Friend and this telecaster in particular.

Do not get it if you are thinking of having Texas Special pickups. It is false advertisement. If that does not bother you, then this is a great guitar.
The pickups are not Texas Specials. The giveaway is that the bridge pickup pole pieces are not staggered. I then checked the DC resistance and both pickups on this model are way below Texas Specials. If this is the reason you are buying, do not buy.

On the other hand, the ash body is beautiful with this finish. The workmanship is above average to excellent.

Comments about Fender FSR Ash Telecaster with Tex-Mexl Pickups Electric Guitar:

This M.I.M. telecaster has more than exceeded my expectations for a guitar at this price point. It's fit and finish are superior to my 1990 M.I.A. standard tele. The set-up and intonation were spot on. If you are considering buying your 1st tele, or your 10th tele, buy this guitar. You won't regret it. It's a bit heavy with the ash body, and depending on your tone requirements, you may want to exchange one or both pickups. Still an outstanding buy. No regrets here.

All I have is praise for this Tele! Truly a beautifully and carefully made instrument. Cannot beat the looks! Plenty of Tele twang and great tone! Fast and comfortable to play. Good pickups (these are Tex-Mex pickups, NOT Texas Specials. Fender states this quite clearly). The ash wood grain is awesome! Not a single flaw! Unbeatable price from MF! I'm completely in love with this Tele! You will too!

I just wanted to point out that a lot of reviewers are mistaken about the pickups in this guitar, in fact, at least one claimed that it was fraud when Fender says they are "Texas Speicials". The guy is right that they're not Texas Specials. They are Tex Mex pickups as Fender clearly states and yes they do sound different than Texas Specials. I had Tex Mex's in a guitar and they have a warmer tone than Specials (I've hade them as well). So before someone acuses fraud they should know what they're talking about.

Comments about Fender FSR Ash Telecaster with Tex-Mexl Pickups Electric Guitar:

First let me commend Musicians Friend. I bought another Telecaster and it was not right. I didn't like it, it had all sorts of fret buzz..it was a dog. I thought I would take a bath returning it but MF was awesome, they understood and stepped right up to make it right, offering me free return and choice of replacement. I chose this FSR ash Tele with Tex Mex pickups.

I could not be happier. It is an absolutely beautiful guitar with great feel and plenty of Tele twang. I pulled it out of the gig bag and after admiring the looks tuned it up and turned it on. It plays as nice as it looks...

And it looks awesome. As many have said the pictures do not do this beauty justice, it is a really great looking guitar. My understanding is that it's basically a standard MIM Tele with an ASH body and the Tex Mex pickups so it's a fairly unique model, with a finish usually reserved for upper end MIA guitars(Deluxe MIA).

If you are looking for a Tele but want something a little different this one is a great call. MIM or not, that little "Fender Special Edition" sticker makes me feel like I've got something that is truly special, as does the absolutely gorgeous finish. It just might be too pretty to gig with...

And again, you can't go wrong with Musicians Friend. They really do take care of the customer.

Comments about Fender FSR Ash Telecaster with Tex-Mexl Pickups Electric Guitar:

I picked this guitar up because I no longer wanted to take my original '69 Tele to jam sessions and the occasional gig. I was very impressed by this instrument. I am a semi-pro bassist, I play guitar as a second instrument only for fun, and have loved Teles since I began playing a few decades ago. This is one nice guitar. The FSR cherry burst ash body is just beautiful and I can find no flaws in the wood anywhere from body to neck. The neck is satin finished and fast. The tuners and other hardware bits are solid and well finished.

I am also pleased with its sound - just a little thicker and more complex in tone than my vintage '69 but still with plenty of classic twang. My musician friends and I prefer its tone over my '69. We play mostly blues and early R&R and prefer the sound of single coil PUs. In fact I think it is better in any objective measure than my genuine vintage instrument. My only gripe is minor. I played my '69 for years with the heel of my right hand on the horizontal edge of the traditional ashtray bridge structure. This guitar does not have that with its more modern bridge, but I like everything else so much I will get used to it. Made in Mexico - concerned you might be disappointed? I was before it arrived, but now I am in love with this guitar.

Great Guitar! Looks even better in person. Beautiful finish and great craftsmanship. I'm a oldies country picker and this guitar gets the job done and more! Wonderful tone. Everything you could expect from a Tele. It's great for them old honky tonk songs and blues. It's amazing how this guitar sounds. If your wonder whether or not to get it, bottom line is GET IT! The only complaint I would have is that the action was set a little low but no biggy, a little raising and it's perfect. I would definatly recommend this to anyone who's looking for a good Tele or just a good guitar in general.

Comments about Fender FSR Ash Telecaster with Tex-Mexl Pickups Electric Guitar:

I just wanted to follow up on my review I did regarding this guitar. After running it into my large stacks to spend time with the pick ups it has been determined in short time by myself that I wouldn't change anything on this guitar. I must have done a great job as well tuning the saddles with a screw driver to make it's intonation sound nicer from the 3rd fret to the 12th fret. She is perfect up high to low and I am picky about that! I can't stand a guitar that sounds good at 3rd fret and then sounds like cheep garbage past the 12th! I can now put this guitar in your hands and it would light you up! The tone, Control and after tightening up the truss rod, made this guitar one of my main axes! I run Two Fender 5150 IIIs and two more 2X12 Fender 5150 Cabs so I can run the speaker outs to my Palmer PDI 03 speaker sims and into a BBE sonic Max and into two more of those 2X12 5150 cabs with Green back 12s. I usually play my Dean ML cuts like I have mentioned and I have a razorback that is a DCR #63 of 100. My Deans are nothing to take lightly. A whole different animal. I wanted to get some cool fender action on the guitar's end though need I explain? I love the tone control when I switch to channel 1 vs 3! I use a capo and it is amazing. I tuned to open E and worked on "Gimme Shelter" and took it frm C#,B and to A. then step on my Univibe for the solo! Fantastic fun and tone with this guitar! The pick ups are to me on the money! If this guitar said USA on the back I would believe it! The finish on the neck is awesome! I call it a Mexican/American ! ;p)
