This is a great guitar for the price but I don't think you'll mistake it for "top of the line". The guitar I received from needed a serious setup, fret buzzing, poor action, I even needed to shim the neck to get everything in playing shape. Luckily I enjoy working on guitars so I could handle it. To be fair, most new guitars need setting up, but I wasn't pleased with this one right out of the box.

Next I decided to replace the pickups with Nocasters. The standard pickups work fine and sound ok, but I wanted a more classic Tele sound so, a C-note later I had it.

I love that it's made of ash like a Telecaster should be, but I'm not fond of the polyester finish. It's very thick and feels like the guitar is encased in plastic. I like a thinner finish on a guitar.

Bottom line: If you want a great classic looking Telecaster for a good price, I do highly recommend this guitar. Once you get it set up right, you'll love it. Just know it may need some work and money to make it into the Tele you really want. When all was said and done I probably could have had a Baja or American for a little more money.

The FSR is (as stated)heavy. I like a guitar that is no more than 7.5 pounds. It may not sound like much (an extra pound), but you can feel it after a short period of time. Other than weight, the guitar has a good feel, and the neck is actually one of the best out of the 2 special lite ash and 2 American Tele's I own. I have always liked the 3 barrel bridge. An OK buy.
If I had the purchase to do over again, I would not buy the guitar due to the weight.

This is the perfect Guitar for me. I will Not change the pick ups. I play this through a Fender Excelsior and its all good. This one is a real Tele "53 reissue" After buying and selling many guitars this is the one I am going to keep. You can spend more money but "why"

Comments about Fender FSR Standard Ash Telecaster Electric Guitar:

      Wow where do I start...
Ok First the instrument came from Musicians Friend PERFECTLY setup. I expected to do about a half hours work on it when it came but after I tuned it, I checked the intonation - Perfect, the action was - Perfect. So I left it...I am guessing once I play it a bit and it has a chance to acclimate to my area I may have to tweak it but Bravo to MF!

Finish was perfect all around it plays like butter and the neck is SO FAST!!! The finish on the neck is done so well that it feels soft to the touch!

I have not yet played it through my Marshall (that's at church) but through my sons Fender Princeton 65 it ROCKS!!! The sound is a Tele with really good tone adjustment. There may come a time when I swap out the PUPS CAPS and POTS but that will wait a while. No need to do it now and I am of the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" crowd".

Not having owned a Tele before I can say I like the reversed switch plate! The volume pot is in a familiar place since I play a Les Paul.

The brass three piece saddle give a bit more room between the strings which allows me to easily finger pick it as well. I think the brass contributes to the overall sound of this guitar too. I would like to see a compensated saddle which I will probably add later on.

This is an all around fantastic guitar and I will be playing it often!

If you have been thinking about getting this guitar think no more lay the money down you will not be sorry!

I received this guitar two days before I expected it - the first of many pleasant surprises!! Beautiful finish, feel and sound. I've played but never owned a Tele and now i know what I've been missing. This guitar is worth twice (at least) what I paid for it. I can't imagine needing any other Tele version - US made or not!

BEAUTIFUL guitar. The setup from Musicians Friend was EXCELLENT! I figured that after receiving it I would have to set the intonation, string height etc.. Nope. Tuned it up and it was perfectly setup, action perfect, intonation perfect.
Beautiful instrument. If you are thinking about it stop thinking and buy it!

Comments about Fender FSR Standard Ash Telecaster Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar a month ago as a tier 3 used one. I've spend much time trying to figure out what the issue with guitar was and I still haven't been able to find it. So I basically got it for a fraction of its normal price (thx MF). Now, I've been playing guitar for over 30 years now . I'm not a great player by any means, but I have played a load of guitars and I can tell which is what. I bought this one, because I always wanted to have a butterscotch blond tele. I've had a standard tele in the past and I was utterly disappointed by it in every aspect: it played badly, the finish was substandard (I had a black one), the neck felt awkward, it was too heavy etc. So I was a little reluctant when I ordered this one. But I was pleasantly surprised. This guitar differs from a standard like day and night. It's way lighter, the neck feels smooth and fast and the finish is to die for! The sound is equally great (at least for what I use the guitar which is to practice and to jam with friends) and I don't see myself ever upgrading anything. I thought that I might feel like I'd prefer a '52 after I bought it, because of being stupid and wanting a made in USA guitar. But honestly, this guitar feels and looks and sounds so good to me that I cannot justify spending over a grand to replace this one. So, the bottom line, if you like butterscotch blonds (and since you're here you do) or if you're in the market for a MIM tele, get this one and don't even bother with the standard one. You will not be disappointed!

Comments about Fender FSR Standard Ash Telecaster Electric Guitar:

I'm 65 years young, have been playing off & on since the early 1960s. Started playing in earnest again about 10 years ago. I've always been a Strat guy...I own a Squire and several MIMs. I built a BYO Strat kit w/ all Fender hardware a couple of years ago. I wanted to do a BYO Tele kit, but they were out of stock on the finished body of my choice, so I got this one. It was very good out of the box, fretwork good, setup good, no flaws in finish, only needed string tuning. I like the "reverse" control plate. I replaced the bridge with a 6-saddle Fender Vintage bridge for better intonation, replaced pickups with Fender Noiseless (not the N3s) to get rid of the hum, replaced jack socket with an Electrosocket to avoid problems there and replaced the string tree with the vintage round type. Sounds BEAUTIFUL thru my DRRI, has that tele "twang." My new favorite guitar.

I was surprised that it played as well as it did. It came out of the shipping box very close to being a perfect setup. I plugged it in and tuned it up It's not an exact Telecaster sound but it is a very unique and Tele type of sound . I like it and it makes good off the normal track. I find it very easy action on the neck and the ability to go from beating to panio playing is very very nice.
