Comments about Fender Kingman USA Select Acoustic Electric Guitar:

The Fender Kingman USA select is one excellent guitar. After opening the handsome and perfect-fitting case I gave her a quick tune and proceeded to try a few chords. Wow, the richness of the sound and the deep bass tones were incredible! I would compare the rich sound to my Dad's D28 Martin, and the deep bass tones to my Uncle's J45 Gibson. And the strings are obviously hand-tuned to be just off the frets for ease of playing. It frets so easy! But there is no string rattling here. It came with some medium strings, I think, but I changed them out for some Fender Custom Lights. The sound and tone were brighter and more vibrant with these strings, and I think I will stay with them.

Now, as to the quality of workmanship in the guitar, I would rate it as second to none. The USA craftsmanship and care that went into hand-fitting and polishing the parts of the guitar are first rate! It is one beautiful guitar, and I have received many compliments on it during the month that I have owned it. The Sunburst is absolutely gorgeous, being reminiscent of the 60's era guitars. The Maple headstock and neck is of excellent quality, and I like how the string tuners are all on one side of the guitar, for speed and ease of tuning. Also a plus is the way you can tuck the excess string into the holes in the pegs when you are putting on new strings. No sticking yourself with those strings that are sticking out any more! The rosewood fingerboard is smooth and so easy to fret. And did I mention that the strings are just right off the fingerboard and easy to fret? Frets like my Uncle's J-45 Gibson--oh so nice! I can play for hours without any fatigue in my hand or fingers! The lovely Sitka Spruce Top gives the guitar such a rich, resonant sound. Again, I compare the sound to my Dad's old D-28 Martin. Rich and full tone, no matter if you are strumming chords or picking individual notes. The Mahogany sides and back are a rich dark brown, with a herringbone inlay in the back that gives it a nice touch. Forgot to mention: the string pegs, saddle and nut are all made of bone. No plastic here! I'm quite sure the bone parts that touch the strings are partly where the richness of the sound comes from.

Amplify this baby and she really shines. Played at a pub not to long ago and I got a lot of compliments on the acoustic sound that came through the amp from this guitar. Some guitars are just not good enough quality guitars to be amplifying them. Not so with this Kingman. Beautiful, rich sound.

The only negative point that I have found on the whole guitar is the fact that you have to remove the strings to replace the 9v battery, which is inside the soundhole and attached to the top of the inside of the guitar via a velcro pouch. But then again, by the time the battery goes down you should probably be changing the strings any way.

Overall, an excellent buy. I compare the quality of this guitar to a modern Taylor, Martin or Gibson acoustic/electric. Buy this and you will not be disappointed!
