OVERVIEW

Fender introduces a Mustang inspired by a true grunge legend: Kurt Cobain.

When Kurt Cobain hit the stage, it was very often with a Mustang guitar—an enigmatic anti-hero figure with an esoteric anti-hero instrument. It’s with great pride then that Fender introduces the Kurt Cobain Mustang, which evokes the man, the band, the sound and the times, and gives an authentically crafted nod to one of the most unlikely guitars to ever find itself at the center of a musical maelstrom.

See for yourself—go back and watch the famous 1991 video for “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and there he is with it is slung over his shoulder. Or think back to when you saw them on the ’93-’94 In Utero tour, when he seldom went onstage with anything but a Mustang. Quite often and especially later on, Mustangs were a big influence on Kurt Cobain's distinctive sound.

Inspired by his arsenal of modded guitars, the new Fender Kurt Cobain Mustang boasts highly distinctive features including an angled single-coil Mustang neck pickup and ferocious Seymour Duncan® JB humbucking bridge pickup mounted directly to the body, dual on-off/phase in-out switches for each pickup, a polyester-finished alder body and an Adjusto-Matic bridge with dynamic vibrato tailpiece.

Other features include the classic 24” Mustang scale length, C-shaped maple neck with urethane finish, 7.25” radius rosewood fingerboard with 22 vintage-style frets and vintage-style ivory dot inlays, four-ply pickguard, master volume and tone controls, vintage-style tuners, and chrome hardware. Available in right- and left-handed models.

Includes gig bag.

Comments about Fender Kurt Cobain Signature Mustang Left-Handed Electric Guitar:

Being left handed means having fewer options in guitars. I've wanted to play a Fender Mustang for years. I grew up watching Nirvana, and I was excited to see Fender come out with the upgraded KC Mustang. I finally broke down and bought one, I played it pretty thoroughly before deciding to keep it. It's a unique instrument with some really great tones in there. I like open chords on this a lot. I like playing lead as well, because the neck is smaller I can cover more real estate.

This is my first experience with a 24 inch neck. It's definitely smaller, which is good and bad. For solos and open chords it's great. Chording (is that a verb?) farther up the fret board (eg bar chords after the 7th fret) feel crowded. But I'm getting used to it.

The neck pick up is great, the bridge pickup is really hot and distorts instinctively, which can be good and bad. Not a surprise given it's a Nirvana inspired guitar, but not something I would have chosen. I prefer the neck alone, or neck and bridge together.

I am impressed with the build quality. It's well built, and just has a more solid feel than the MIM Strats I'm used to.

It comes with vintage tuners, which threw me for a loop. I had to watch a youtube video to figure out how the keep the B/E strings from popping out.

Great guitar. Lefties don't get a) mustangs or b) shorter scale guitars every often, so if you miss out this you may not get another chance for years.

Act now... before they're SOLD OUT!

Comments about Fender Kurt Cobain Signature Mustang Left-Handed Electric Guitar:

If you're a lefty with smaller hands, you should get one or two of these guitars. The Fender name
insures you'll get a quality guitar. There are no other 24" scale lefty guitars being offered by any of the major guitar makers... so if you hesitate now you'll be out of luck. I intend to buy one of each color.
I bought my first Mustang in 1996. Made the mistake of selling it about 5 years ago. Fender hasn't made lefty Mustangs available for 17 years, but now we finally have these. Better than the cheap
basswood Mustangs of the 90's, these Alder Mustangs will prove to be more durable and less susceptible to dents and dings. The absolute best feature on these Mustangs is the way they trimmed the pick-up switches so they no longer interfere with playing the instrument. The Seymour
Duncan pick-up adds extra power to the sound, and the decision to go with a tune-o-matic style
bridge will keep you in tune, but may prove to be problematic if you try to use the wammy bar.
24" scale neck will suit those with smaller hands.
These Fender Mustangs are made in Japan, and the quality of the build is second to none.
The paint job on this guitar is flawless.
Why are these a fantastic value? Because for the first time in 17 years they are available left-handed. Sure, they're twice as expensive as they were then, but at least you can get a brand new
one now, and they're available in three different colors. The original lefty Fender Jagstangs from '96
now sell for three times what they were originally sold for. Buying one of these is like an investment
in art... I anticipate they'll be worth more in years to come.
