OVERVIEW

A lean, mean, and stripped-down version of the classic Fender model.

Throughout its history, Fender has always made a special point of welcoming new players to the family by offering entry-level instruments of remarkable style and substance (such as the Duo-Sonic, Mustang and Musicmaster models), with great sound, classic looks, solid performance and eminent affordability. The Modern Player Series continues that great "my-first-Fender" tradition with thoroughly modern features and several distinctively unconventional new takes on Fender's most revered instruments—all with outstandingly attainable value.

The Modern Player Jaguar is a lean, mean and stripped-down version of the classic Fender model, with a full-throated pair of single-coil Modern Player MP-90 pickups on a sans-pickguard mahogany body. Other features include a C-shaped maple neck, rosewood fretboard with 9.5” radius and 21 medium jumbo frets, 3-way toggle pickup switching, Jazz Bass-style control knobs, vintage-style Adjusto-Matic bridge with anchored tailpiece, vintage-style tuners and nickel/chrome hardware.

If you believe you need to spend a lot of money on an american built guitar to acquire a real player.......this guitar may be the one to change that belief.

This is the real-deal at a price point that will easily let you expand your hoard of guitars!

Rock On!
This guitar has all you need to jam, riff, and lick to your hearts desire. You will thoroughly enjoy the tones you can create with stock pick-ups and a setup right out of the box . A very robust set of P-90's and 3-way switch that feels and sounds like it locks in for a tight connection. Tone and volume controls will let you find the sound you are looking for.
Not one flaw on this guitar. The neck definitely has the playability and feel of high-end guitars. Frets are smooth and level---no fretting out. The mahogany body radiates 3-D depth. This guitar is worthy of display in a lit wall mounted display case to reveal its stunning looks. You will not be diappointed in the quality of this guitar. I have the Chocolate Burst style and the two color transition into the mahogany grain does not look machine processed at all. A beautiful guitar to admire.

PS Fender cares about quality right out of the box, there will be no need to send this one back for disappointing defects.
This guitar is under priced. I would not be surprised if Fender raises the price in 2012. Can not beat the value of this guitar. I believe the price point is currently set low because it is a new entry into the market (2011). Once this guitar attacts a following the price will go up.

Made the mistake of purchasing this online right when it first came out. I was overseas at the time, and I thought it was a good idea. Here are my complaints:

First, it feels light. The description says that it is made out of mahogany, so I expected it to have a nice, heavy feel to it. On mine, it seems as if the neck is almost heavier than the body, which I do not like.

Second, mine does not stay tuned at all. I keep it in the normal tuning, yet it can't go an entire song and keep its tune.

Third, and I've seen a few reviews that say this, it's noisy. I will admit that I'm no electrician, but the common consensus seems to be that the wireing is bad, which causes the insane buzzing sound that I'm hearing.

Finally, the neck action is pretty lame. And when I say lame, I mean it reminds me of the Squire Affinity Telecaster that I learned to play on about ten years ago. More to the point, the frettboard could be a bit smoother, as could the fretts themselves. It almost feels like they need filed down a bit.

The one positive comment that I have is that it does look very pretty. I like the agressive yet simple look that it has, but unfortunately, I prefer substance over looks. Moral of the story: do your research before buying an instrument, and take it for a test drive.

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Guitar:

Picked this up from Musician's friend, read a couple of reviews that varied a bit so I wasn't sure what to expect when it came in the mail. Electronics are solid, neck is straight, intonation is set right. The p-90s have a crunchy tone. I play mainly on the bridge pickup through a peavey classic 50 410. Overall, a great guitar - in fact I prefer it to my USA Les Paul.

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Guitar:

These pickups DO sound good to me, but can be extremely microphonic (especially after I put Nickle/Silver covers on them). The simple cure is to pot them in wax; I have ZERO problems with microphonics after doing so.

Also, I do not like the tuners at all. Most of my guitars have locking tuners and after putting a set on this one, tuning improves a great deal, along with string changes. For a couple of small mods you'll have a great guitar at a great price.

I bought it mainly due to tendonitis problems and I'm hoping the shorter scale with less string tension and smaller frets will take some work out of my playing, but I have the Modern Player Thinline with same pickups (now potted) and they sound great with no noise.

Pick ups need attention will concider upgrading them at some point, Bridge pick up seems weak compared to the neck pick up. Definatley sounded better through my Fender HotRod Deluxe Amp compared to my HiWatt Hi Gain 50. Apart from that I love it and it wont be going anywhere!!!...(COLOUR)Chocolate Burst

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Guitar:

Simple no nonsense work horse guitar. Nice mid-range tone. Some brittle treble as desired. Needs stain or spray paint. Simple controls. Loose cord jack on arrival. Not really a P90 (less touchy and defined). Not heavy. Medium/small neck. Dark fret-board. Fun for jamming and practice. Good value. Arrived setup well. Not as country (twangy) or jazzy as my Tele. My sound is solid and good and you hear me if I decide to notch it up. Add a little fuzz and delay and I'm awesome.

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Guitar:

Pretty nice Chinese-made guitar in the familiar Jaguar-shape. Well-finished and well-made with a nice, smooth tinted neck and unique transparent black satin body finish. Doesn't feel like any Jaguar I've played before. Probably closer to a Gibson SG.

It makes for a nice project guitar that you can easily add a Bigsby B5 using a Vibramate. The pickups are just OK -- decent dirty tones but weak when cleaned up. I'll probably end up upgrading the pickups at some point. It would look much better as a top-routed guitar with a pickguard and a traditional jaguar jack instead of the strat-style one.

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Guitar:

Strats, teles, Pauls, ES-355s and more~ the iconic gits of the last century and I'm an old man who played them all. At the end of the day they all have pickup selectors and tone controls and that's it. Try setting an amp completely flat, use the headphone out, leave the guitar knobs all the way up and plug each of those guitars in and play them for a while, switching between the pickups. That's the actual sounds of those guitars!

          "The Fiddling":
After that begins the knob twiddling, gain and amp twiddling, pickup mods, string changes, etc. to suit a particular style or achieve a signature sound.
Now with all the "simulations" built into amps, apps and daws most of the fiddling can be done virtually, which is wonderful.

This guitar came setup perfectly in a cheap cardboard box from MF. The design and hardware are simple and solid and these noiseless P-90's seem suited to the 24 inch scale and have a bit of reverb-like shimmer. The 24 scale allows me to play intricate patterns and riffs that I haven't been able to do for years on standard necks. The super slinky string gauge allows me to bend freely.

Yes the finish is ugly. Yes the strat jack looks silly (but it does grasp the cord's plug with a satsfying click). Yes, I've never liked the CBS era headstocks. Oh well....

This is a GREAT sounding guitar and (when played through simulators) iconic tones from the last century jump out all over the place!

          Let the fiddling begin.

I found it very uncomfortable to handle aside from the weight. It feels more like an epiphone than a Fender. P-90's are nice, but single coils have a better tone in my opinion. I've owned Gibson with P-94's and they are way different (better). I own Squier affinity teles and they are far superior to this Fender. I can't recommend this instrument.

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Guitar:

This Modern Player Jaguar is a Jaguar in shape only. Not sure why the 'Jaguar' name was given to it. It has a nice clean look, simple controls, feels great and the MP90s are good sounding P90s. I love the vintage tuning machines and mine is the transparent black finish which is uniquely different and stands out from all my other guitars. Craftsmanship is supurb for such a lower pricepoint instrument. I didn't have to adjust anything in regards to setup. Lots of tone variations in the 3-way switch and tone control. I love this guitar. It has it's own character in looks and sound.
The only thing that is disturbing to me is, for my playing, the volume knob is too high and gets in my way and then changes the volume unexpectedly.
