Just read what I wrote above. This inexpensive little gem gives me more to work with than my two American Strats and my American Tele. I also believe that the first batch of these instruments will become collectors items. I'm glad to have a first run Modern Player Marauder. I'm telling you out there, Fender ROCKS, and these new guitar designs are a major reason why.
The body style is so unique, and the aged pearloid pick guard goes quite well with the sparkley blue finish! The knobs are well placed, I love the chrome (Jazz Bass) knob plate and the aged yellow finish on the neck and headstock! It's a cool looking guitar for sure. But the best thing about it is the electronics. I own three American made Fenders, two Strats and a Tele, all great guitars! But after 35 years of playing single-coil guitars, I'd forgotten how cool a crunchy hum-bucker could sound. You can still get the "Fender" single-coil sound when the selector switch is in the middle position, but now you also have a P90, a hum-bucker, a triple-bucker (fatter sounding than hum-bucker), and a combo of the P90 with single coil (3rd rail of the triple-bucker). I gigged this weekend and I've never sounded so versitile! I used P90 for rythyms and leads on older sings such as the Hollies' "Long Cool Woman," or Joe Walsh's "All Night Long." Switched to over-driven hum-bucker on classic rock, (i.e. ZZ Top "Sharp Dressed Man," or Beatles' "Revolution"). Still had the single coil swamp tone needed for Tony Joe White's "Polk Salad Annie." This may be a guitar priced for the beginner, but it has inspired this old dog!
There are no frills, such as locking tuners, roller nut, trem-setter or micro-tilt neck adjustment, so I gave her a 9, but the fit and finish is excellent. She was so close to perfectly set up, I was actually dumbfounded! She's a beauty, and a little screamer too!
At this price, to get an instrument that caused me to put away three others, each costing twice what the Marauder does, THAT'S AN AMAZING VALUE!

They are what I use at gigs because I want to be able to beat on my guitars and not worry much about damage and replacement. They are just tools, after all. Treat those high end custom shop units as the works of art they are and just display or record with them
You can't go wrong here and if this line continues this way, you may have a piece that will appreciate in value in the coming years.
A triple bucker that switches to a standard humbucker or a single coil along with a P90 that can be used by itself or with the single coil: That's just about every PU configuration known to man in one instrument. Nice! Comes w/ trem, so that's covered, too. (Kinda useless on this guitar though, more on that in the quality section). A proper Fender neck. Total cool and unique retro look - you'll stand out because not everybody will be using these.
The build quality is excellent. Frets are dressed w/o any hangover from the neck. The neck is C shaped and feels like any Strat. The PU's are a little less sonic than my Strats, but powerful enough through my Hot Rod and deliver well. The triplebucker sounds like a humbucker, but with some latent compression, really interesting. All the screws are properly seated and there's no stripping. The finish is up to the usual Fender standard.
I gave an eight for quality because the bridge is really low end (sorry Squire) and will not work well for surf or dive bombing. It's got zero feel and forget about the tuning. Got to have a Floyd for proper whammy! I set mine up for .11 gauge strings and made a hardtail by adding an extra spring. A little lube on the synthetic nut and no tuning issues.
The Koto wood body is pretty light and took a little getting used to, but it does play well.
For the price point this is an excellent value. You get a well made guitar with a wide variety of features you can actually use on a regular basis. I'm quite impressed!

This is a great guitar for the money. I'm a Fender guy, and the triple bucker idea had me skeptical, but I guess a Fender sounds like a Fender. The tones you can get outta this pup are pretty extensive. The humbucking settings are not muddy, the middle neck and mid/neck in between are very spanky single coil sounds like the ones I'm used to. Who cares if its made in China..? Its a solid guitar.

Was looking to get a cheap end Gibson when i saw this, and boy am I glad I did.
Pickups: they sound good in all positions the triple as a triple makes for a nice rhythm or saturated crunchy metal sound, the neck " jazzmaster" pick up is hot too.
I have described this guitar as the ultimate smashing pumpkins guitar to my friends, due to the vast array of great sounds you can get, all my friends would love to get one.
I have a jazzmaster and a mex strat and the build quality and smoothness of feel and finish is far superior on the marauder. Seated playing is comfortable compared to say an sg where the scale of the neck feels like your stretching your arm and the bottom cut away and body/neck position feels more natural to easily access the higher frets.
The setup out of the box was superb and made for an effortless pick up and play, I was awe-struck too when I first saw it, the metallic finish for the lake placid blue works really well.
They seem to have used a new design for the bridge as its not blocks but a wavy bit of metal to form the individual string bridge, the tremolo looks like it is specifically designed to be flat against the body (probably cause most people wouldn't need the trem bar anyway) but I have found myself using it as it is very easy to control but only to dive slightly, ( authentic surf twang).
I play mainly alt rock but my friends who played it found it suited their styles too ( heavy rock, and jazz.).
It's so good I'd be tempted to get another in the black.

Fun guitar to play, it's so dynamic and plays so well I'm getting rid of an Ibanez RG420 and Epiphone Nighthawk.
The Neck pickup especially has a great tone. It's a little noisy, but once I dial back the volume it's awesome. For Surf and 70's rock, this guitar holds its own. Not your run-of-the-mill strat or jaguar tone for surf, but it can absolutely hold it's own. Classic Fender twang. I love it.
Triplebucker isn't the highlite, seems to be mostly a gimmick.
My only complaint is the stock tuners are absolutely terrible. They feel awful. I'll fix that soon enough.

Talk about GREAT bang for the buck! The Fender Marauder is one of the best of the lower priced MIM Fenders. The pickup combination used here is much dirtier sounding that Strats or Teles (that's good!) and can really rip up a great Blues solo or some nasty chords that, with a foot pedal or amp setting can really grind. I have over fifty guitars, and the Fender Marauder is now up there in my top 5 "go to" axes.

I'm giving it 5-stars considering the price (otherwise, it'd be 4-stars). The Marauder is a great offering from Fender. If you replaced the trem and possibly the pickups and wiring, it'd compete with guitars that cost twice as much. Starting off with the debatable cons--it looks/feels like Fender skimped on the quality of the trem, and possibly the pickups, jack... The neck pickup is excessively hot (which some might like) and the triplebucker only sounds good with distortion/fuzz. I've heard some people complain about the triplebucker being dark/muddy...but I think it'd be great for anyone who doesn't like typically-bright bridge pickups. The rest is no-reservations impressive. For a MIC Fender, it is a slight step above the Squiers I've played--slightly better fit and finish, and there are no sharp fret ends (like on the Squiers I've tried). The vintage-tint neck looks beautiful and plays nicely...fits tight to the body. The finish, pickguard cut, etc, all top-notch. Fender could have upgraded the trem and pickups and sold this at $700...but that's not the point, I guess.

i've always loved fender. love the look, love the logo, love the retro-vibe that most fenders have. unfortunatly, i've never been really happy with the tone in most fenders. i'm a big fan of heavy, thick distortion with lots of growl, and all the strats i've ever owned (even the HSS) always sounded to thin/tinny/twangy to me. that is not the case in the marauder. i rolled my eyes when i first read in the description above that the triplebucker was "volcanic", but having played, it i have to say its not a bad description. this guitar has some serious heavy tone, while still having all that "retro fender cool" thats always attracted me to the brand. it should be noted that its a wider neck, like most fenders have. so if your a speed-metal junkie, and used to necks like ibanez, or jackson, this neck may feel wide, or even clunky to you. if your already used to strats and such, you should feel right at home. i'm definatly happy with my purchase, and look forward to many years of enjoying it

I have to admit... I took one look at the "Triplebucker" and thought "GIMMICKY!" But I thought the body looked cool so I picked it up. The action was a little higher than I was used to, but it didn't feel like it... the neck was silky smooth and very fast! But I was STILL hesitant about the triplebucker. I thought I'd plug it in though. HOLY TONE, Batman!!!
The best way to describe the setup is that it's kinda like having a Strat with a MINI humbucker at the bridge, a mini single coil (think tele neck) in the middle, and a Jazzmaster in the bridge (which, contrary to popular belief, is NOT the same as a P-90... SIMILIAR, but not the same!) The sounds are Strat-like, but different... and (in my opinion) even BETTER!!
Then I saw the price.... and, quite frankly, I was SHOCKED!! I have been a musician for 40 years and a pro for over 30. I have owned vintage Fenders and Gibsons worth thousands of dollars, and this guitar plays and sounds every bit as good as any of them, for a FRACTION of the price!! It has become my go to guitar and would be the one guitar I'd bring to a gig or the studio if I could only take one... yes, it is THAT GOOD!! It is EXCEPTIONALLY versatile and as well-made as any guitar I have ever played. Don't believe me?! GO TRY ONE....NOW!!

This thing is ultra versatile. I've played everything from Alice in Chains to the Doobie Brothers, Santana, and everything in between. There's a usable if not amazing tone for every thing I've thrown at it. I was really worried about the triplebucker when I first tried it out, but I can honestly tell you, that thing is a really cool pickup. Also, the headstock can be used as a boat paddle, and that's a good thing.

I really like the look and feel of this guitar, however the chrome plating on the neck plate and the volume tone plate of my guitar were not chromed properly. The chrome on the Machine Heads and Tuners is just fine, and the initial setup was surprisingly good. Other than the chrome I don't have a complaint. I will probably keep it that way, as it adds a patina to the guitar and the other features outweigh that. Still great value for the money, and better than other makes and models in this price range, so this won't be my last Pawn Shop fender. I like the concept and look of the series. Best of all it plays great.
