The return of a fabled and seldom-heard Fender name from the 1960s.

The Fender Modern Player Stratocaster HSS—throughout its history, Fender® has always made a special point of welcoming new players to the family by offering entry-level instruments of remarkable style and substance (such as the Duo-Sonic™, Mustang® and Musicmaster® models), with great sound, classic looks, solid performance and eminent affordability. Other features include an alder body, C-shaped maple neck, rosewood fretboard with 9.5” radius and 22 jumbo frets, five-way pickup switching, three-ply pickguard, vintage-style synchronized tremolo bridge, vintage-style tuners and nickel/chrome hardware.

Buy this guitar if:your are looking to upgrade a well constructed guitar made from good quality woods..want a good quality guitar to play in the basement with your buddies.Don't buy this guitar if:you play metal and need to gig before swapping Pups, pots...
I like the push/pull split-coil. feature and HSS configuration. Also, 22 frets on a non-USA strat is a plus. The latter is one reason I stayed away from the MIM Strats. Vintage style tuners, vintage style tremolo, Alder body, Maple neck, Rosewood fretboard, nut is synthetic bone. 9.5" fingerboard radius.
I bought this guitar with the understanding that the electronics and hardware might be sub-par. My intent was to upgrade the humbucker with a Pearly Gates and swap out the single coils, as well as the caps/pots. While I think they sound pretty good, especially the single coils I am going through with the upgrade. The humbucker has pretty good definition but lacks the punch I like in a 'bucker. The split coil is a tad thin but it is certainly functional enough. Nice glassy strat tones from the single coils. The pickguard was the most disappointing thing about the guitar. Very cheap and has the feel of soft rubber. I compared it to my Epi LesPaul Custom ( yes, it is a Silverburst, too) and Fender obviously cut a corner here. The Vintage Tuners did their job and the Rosewood finger board is fast and smooth as butter. Frets are smooth and seated properly. The body is Alder not that softwood junk (Agathis) you find on Squires. The Maple neck was smooth and straight. Exceptional fit and finish. I got exactly what I hoped for...an inexpensive but well-made guitar that can be something special after a few upgrades. Vintage style tremolo seems like the one you might find in a MIM. I actually might keep it. Don't let the "Made in China" throw you. My MIC Epi Les Paul compares well to my Gibson Black Beauty in build quality. Besides, where do you think your iPhone was made? MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE THE STRINGS BEFORE PLAYING. I put 009 Boomers and it made a HUGE improvement over the Fender strings.
Even with the stock electronics you cannot beat this guitar for the money. Built at least as well, if not better than the MIM, although I think the MIM has superior electronics and pickguard. I have 4 kids and can't just drop 1000-2000 bucks on a new guitar anymore, so I like to find inexpensive but well made ones to upgrade over time. That is what this guitar is. Word of the wise to you single guys. Get your expensive gear before your married and have kids

Comments about Fender Modern Player Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I have owned this guitar for 10 months now and couldn't be happier. The only issue I have is the input jack periodically needs tightening. Wide range of tones with these pickups. The humbucker initially sounded weak but after being broken in, it really growls. Thrash is about the only genre this guitar can't do. The single coils give you the quack and spank and great Mark Knopfler, SRV tones. Excellent build quality. I really don't see any difference between this guitar and my old American Standard. The Silverburst finish is beautiful. I am so impressed that I intend on buying the MP Thinline Tele and Marauder. Get this guitar!

Comments about Fender Modern Player Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I have wanted a Strat, not a Squier, but a Strat again since I had to let mine go many years ago. Under $400, this was a steal. Needed setup, but many guitars do when they are shipped, but it wasn't that bad at all. The humbucker is a little weak, but in comparison to other 'stock' pickups, it's not too bad. Very nice paint job, I got the Olympic White. Very pretty guitar. I love playing it and am getting tones, especially in the neck position, that I haven't been getting from my other guitars.

I love being able to have the humbucker with the coil tap. It feels solid. I might replace the pickups later, but so far I do like what I am getting from it. Good tone. It is a beautiful guitar. An actual strat for under $400 is a steal.

This is better than any Strat I've ever owned, and I've had vintage Americans, tons of Mexicans. The neck, action, and frets are the best I've ever played. The finish is flawless. I can't say enough good things about this guitar..the Chinese have guitar building down to a science.I'm going to buy another one before somebody wises up and raises the price another 300 bucks.

                  Great value!!

Comments about Fender Modern Player Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I've been playing guitar for over 25 years. I'm always looking for a great value. Well, this is it. Fender has made a great strat, for an entry level price. I would get one (or two), before they raise the price. Good job Fender!
Pretty standard features for a Strat. The single coil / humbucker is great, as well as the split coil feature. The only feature I would mark down are the tuners. That's the only reason I marked the "features" category to an 8. Stock "ping" tuners do not hold real well. I have already put Grovers on and bingo, the guitar stays in tune like a dream. All in all though, the overall features are just fine.
This is where I was pleasantly surprised. For a "Made in China" strat, the quality is well above any other similar priced guitar out there!! The finish, playability, and overall feel of the guitar was really great. I was surprised that it was relatively playable right out of the box. Fenders are notorious for horrible factory set-ups. Not this one. Only a few tweaks to fit my preferences, and it was ready to go. Feels real solid in my hands. I would put it up against any MIM strat....The only thing I might change (besides the tuners), are the pickups. However, that's simply due to my taste, not because the pick-ups are poor quality. They sound pretty decent!! (However, just because it has a humbucker, understand this guitar is NOT made for metal).
Fantastic value. 10 all the way. For a genuine Fender strat, the value is unmatched. Don't get the Squier (although, they have some really nice Classic Vibes out there), get the Modern Player. You won't find a better value for the price. Sure, it's not an American Strat or a PRS, but it's WELL worth the small price tag.
