I've played about 4 of these guitars, and I finally purchased a Condition 1 model in the sunburst finish from MF. All of these that I've played have been pretty much identical in regard to the things I've noticed.

They all play like much more expensive instruments. For a guitar made in China, this guitar plays like at least a Mexican Tele, maybe even better than that. The sunburst is dynamic and gorgeous, the pine body looks great through the finish as well. Great overall tone, sounds great no matter what kind of tone you want (within reason), I've played through Marshall combos, Marshall stacks, and Vox combos and gotten brilliant tone through all of them. The pickups are fantastic on this guitar, I won't be replacing them.

That said, on all 4 of these that I've played, the humbucker has been set remarkably low, much lower than the middle single-coil, making that middle pickup much more powerful before adjustment. After raising the humbucker in to a more normal position, I get great grit (say that 5 times) from it, it drives extremely well.

If you have the dough, I would not hesitate to grab one of these. You will not regret it.

Comments about Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus Electric Guitar:

I'm a bassist who just likes to kick around on guitar. I have always loved Tele's, but I couldn't justify spending the money on an American Tele. So many tones you can achieve with this guitar. Kudos to Fender once again!

Comments about Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus Electric Guitar:

I took this to a guy who shields pickups and sets intonation and such. He told me this Modern Player needed no modification, right out of the Box! Contrast that with my American Standard Strat, which needed shielding and re-soldering. I like to buy American, but I'm unconvinced it's worth twice the price to do so.
Beautiful (honey sunburst) finish, excellent neck and hardware. The sound is startling, especially through a good Fender amp (I've got a Mustang III, and it gives me literally thousands of sound choices).
The only thing that surprised me was how heavy it is, almost like a Les Paul. Great sustain, though.
Buy this guitar. It's gonna be a toss-up whether to play it or my Strat.

Comments about Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus Electric Guitar:

I really like the finish, it not looks a cheap guitar despite the fact this is a budget one. I am a Gibson and Ibanez fan so, this is my very first Fender. So, I cannot say if all fenders have the same flat tone but I changed all pickups and electronics to seymour duncan (invader + little 59 + quarter pound and pots 250k).
It looks a very new guitar, warm, hot and versatile for all tones. This guitar turned my preferred one.
All other thing that I didn't like the tuners and I will also change for gotoh locking (not installed yet).

Comments about Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus Electric Guitar:

I got this for the variety of tones it offers: humbucker with coil tap, a Strat pickup and a Tele pickup. I'm a lifelong Les Paul player, but I like Tele and Strat tones, too. I thought with the humbucker I could get the best of both worlds. All the PUs and combinations thereof sound great, but you're not going to get that low-end whomp, the thudding drive that you get from a Les Paul. This guitar has a pine body, but I don't know that ash or alder would be any different. The best analogy I can make is if this was an amp, it's got a Vox sound vs. the Marshall sound of a Les Paul. Played through a Marshall you get a thicker sound, of course -- just not all the way into Gibson territory.
Anyhow, great versatility if this is what you're looking for.

Comments about Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus Electric Guitar:

I picked this up at GC on Cicero in Chicago and instantly loved it. It plays like a much more expensive instrument. The pine body gives it more sustain and volume than the usual Alder wood bodies on most new Fenders. I've owned mine for a couple of years and haven't had any quality issues with it. On reading some of the other reviews, looks like some people have had set up problems with it; fret buzz, high action, pickups set to low, etc. I can relate, I picked one up to try out an amp at GC Reno and it was so poorly set up, it was nearly unplayable. Mine plays like a dream, but if it had been set up like the one in Reno, I never would have bought it, although sitting down with a screwdriver and Allen wrenches for half an hour would have solved the problem. A proper setup is required on any new guitar, learn how or take it to someone who knows how.

That aside, the guitar has my two favorite pickups, the Tele neck pickup and the standard strat middle pickup. I was going to replace the Modern Player bridge pickup but have really gotten to like its tone, not too heavy middle like most humbuckers, balanced and bright with a lot of output.

I've owned some really nice vintage telecasters back when they were almost new and this guitar is much more versatile for metal and shred. It's not the fastest neck in the world, but the neck looks cool and has a very nice smooth feel with well polished smooth fret ends, rare on a guitar in this price range. The five position pickup switch and in/out phase toggle give it a plethora of sounds. Beware the hum on some of the settings.

All in all, a great feeling, great sounding very cool guitar for the money - buy it, but be ready to do a little setup work.

Comments about Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus Electric Guitar:

Have never really been a tele guy but had a chance to play this at a local store and couldn't put it down. I have never been big on the "made in" factor, I have had MIA gear that was terrible and MIC that blew them away.
However, I digress, this tele allows me to play a wide variety of songs from Rush to Johnny Cash. After changing the strings to 10 gauge, a small amount of set up, this axe is sweet as can be. The volume and tone controls have very nice linear response.
The pickups are clean and articulate. Had to raise the neck pup a hair but no big deal.
Fit and finish are beautiful, the charcoal is almost black but you can see the wood grain, nice...
The belly cut is a bonus for me (54 year old and well, you know).
It's wierd, I have some relatively high end gear but I am finding this tele to be my go to guitar. Have played a few shows with it and it has delivered nicely.
