Compact Mustang body, short scale length and powerful humbucking pickups with extensive tonal control.

The Fender Pawn Shop Mustang Special Electric Guitar has a modified offset Mustang® body, ’60s “C”-shaped 24” short-scale maple neck, and dual Fender Enforcer™ humbucking pickups with ’70s-style covers and unique switching. Other features include a rosewood fretboard with modern 9.5” radius and medium jumbo frets, pickup toggle switch, three-way coil selector slide switch for each humbucking pickup (enabling 15 different tonal options), mint green pickguard, ’70s-style hard-tail Stratocaster® bridge, vintage-style tuners and strap buttons, and deluxe gig bag.

The Pawn Shop Series guitars draw inspiration from the eccentric and sometimes wildly innovative Fender creations of the mid-'60s and mid-’70s era that sometimes found their way to the outside world and into the more esoteric pages of Fender history. With this adventurous spirit in mind, Pawn Shop Series instruments emerge as all-new Fender guitars with a boldly creative alchemy of diverse Fender components. And while they are brand-new members of the Fender family crafted with thoroughly modern sound and quality, Pawn Shop Series instruments now take the stage with a remarkable new identity as "guitars that never were but should have been."

Comments about Fender Pawn Shop Mustang Special Electric Guitar:

Conceptually, this guitar is really great. The 15 tonal options are a unique feature that comes in very handy, and is just a lot of fun! And the Enforcer pickups sound very good, especially in conjunction with the small scale of the guitar. Where the guitar suffers is the modified body shape, which reduces the original body by almost 1/4. This makes the guitar slightly neck-heavy, plus it doesn't feel quite substantial enough...something feels missing. The build quality is pretty good, considering it is a Mexican Fender (these used to be made in Japan). I had high hopes for this guitar because I always wanted a Mustang with humbuckers, but because of the undersized body I cannot recommend this guitar. It might be worth your while to just modify a stock Mustang (that's what I did).

Comments about Fender Pawn Shop Mustang Special Electric Guitar:

My son was really wanting this guitar. I was against ordering it without seeing it, but he insisted and used his own money. When the guitar arrived there was a problem with the cord attaching to the guitar.

Comments about Fender Pawn Shop Mustang Special Electric Guitar:

This guitar is worth every penny. I have small hands, and the neck feels great (the nut is 1.650", slightly bigger than a standard Mustang neck). I was concerned about the modified body, but it turns out that the guitar is still well-balanced (the proportion of body to neck is roughly the same as a Jazzmaster). But what excites me the most are the 15 tonal options. You can have two humbuckers, a single-coil and a humbucker, or two single coils––and you can select one or both pickups AND adjust the volume and tone. You can get a lot of different sounds with this guitar! I would not have chosen the mint green pickguard, but the rest of the guitar looks great and is well-built, especially for a Mexican Fender. Having a pickup selector toggle switch is a welcome addition to the guitar, since it was always inconvenient to move the individual slider switches. The sound of this guitar is surprisingly robust for a guitar of its size––it's no Les Paul, but it can definitely hold its own with more traditional humbucking guitars. I am not a huge fan of Fender's Pawn Shop series guitars, but this little guitar is an exception, having solved a number of the original guitar's problems (I don't miss the vibrato at all) and added some welcome features.
