Semi-hollowbody with a gorgeous finish and gold hardware make this one easy to select.

The Fender Select Telecaster Thinline presents a finely crafted take on the popular semi-hollow version of Fender's very first guitar model. Stylish and light, it has a semi-hollow ash body with a beautiful flame maple top and hand-stained Violin Burst finish with gloss lacquer topcoat. Its modern "C"-shaped birdseye maple neck has a satin lacquer finish and Bi-FlexTM truss rod system. The compound radius birdseye maple fingerboard (9.5"-14") has 22 medium jumbo frets and a gloss lacquer finish.

Other premium features include Fender Select Telecaster single-coil neck and bridge pickups with three-way switching, heavy-knurled chrome or gold control knobs, four-ply aged white pearloid pickguard, American Standard Telecaster bridge with bent steel saddles and stamped brass plate, deluxe cast/sealed tuners with white pearloid buttons, nickel/ chrome or gold hardware and Fender Select headstock medallion. Includes Fender Select Tweed Case.

Comments about Fender Select Thinline Telecaster Electric Guitar:

I'm reviewing the one with gold hardware, and the non-locking, "pearl" handled tuners.

        Good:
        Wonderful semi-hollow tone.
AMAZINGLY beautiful birds eye neck. Stuffed with figure.
        Playable neck.
        Love the access heel.

        Meh:
The tuners felt really cheap, with an uneven feel to the gearing. Applying fingertip pressure caused the slightest bit of "give" in the plastic "pearl" handles. Gold casings were rough in places from the the casting process.

Fret ends would probably tear a piece of paper rubbed along the edge of the neck. I've seen worse from Fender on MiM and Squier, but my Deluxe and AV58 are both perfectly smooth.

I thought the top "binding" was natural maple, like you see on a Taylor 814. Turns out it's not binding at all. The top is stained, and then SANDED OFF along the edge. There is no binding. The edge is fuzzy because of the wood pores, and the occasional violin-colored bit that soaked in deeper along the grain. Pretty from five feet away. Up close, not so much.

Not a big surprise, but the flame top is not nearly as deep or uniform as all the pictures. Just average. I've seen better tops on Epiphone LPs.

If the rest of the guitar were like the tone, and the birdseye figuring on the neck, this would be a truly "Select" instrument, and worth every penny. Maybe I just got a bad one. I felt it didn't live up to similarly priced Teles in terms of quality, such as the Deluxe and the revamped American Vintage series.
