Comments about Fender Sonoran SCE Wildwood IV Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

There are 3 great reasons for purchasing this guitar; Dao Wood, Dao Wood and Dao Wood. It is beautiful, has the sound similar to Rosewood, but the lighter shade shows the figuring so well.
My Tony Alva Sonoran with it's Mahogany sounds warmer and it's 80/20 strings makes a perfect rhythm/accompaniment guitar. I put phosphor/bronze on the Dao Wood and with the cutaway it sounds and plays so well as a picking/lead guitar.
This is an excellent instrument, whether it's your 1st or 31st. And it's just fine to own more than one of the Sonoran series, there is enough of a difference in the looks and sound, and the consistency of the Strat-style neck.

Comments about Fender Sonoran SCE Wildwood IV Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I mostly play electric and have never had a nice acoustic, much less an a/e (acoustic/electric). That being said I am not an acoustic aficionado, but, I can say that this guitar sounds great to my ears both unplugged and running thru an amp.

Out of the box it needed a little bit of setup work, as others have said. I adjusted the truss rod a little, and also sanded down the bottom side of the bridge. When doing so, I noticed that the bottom is not cut to exactly 90 degrees, but is cut so that the bridge leans back a little towards the bridge pins. Just keep that in mind if you are sanding your bridge. Action at the nut was good, so I didn't need to file the nut slots.

Fit and finish is excellent with only a couple very minor finish flaws, but for the price I can live with that. The DOA wood laminate back and sides are just beautiful, and even the solid spruce top on mine looks pretty nice with some variation in the grain color.

I think the Fishman Presys onboard preamp is at least a mid-level unit and not just your basic volume and eq. And I love how you simply use a fingernail to unlock the preamp casing so it can rotate out to reveal the battery for convenient changing.

I have never been a fan of a fender strat headstock on an acoustic guitar, but, the wood grain of the laminate on the front of the headstock looks so nice that any reservations I previously had simply evaporate.

Luckily, I have had an acoustic hardcase for a while that I never used that is now home to my great new a/e guitar.

For this price, you won't be disappointed, heck, for another hundred or so, you'd still be happy!

Beautiful guitar, sounds a bit tinny compared to my Carlos acoustic. Lovely wood grain. My pick guard came unattached, cold weather likely kept the glue from sticking. Overall satisfied.

Comments about Fender Sonoran SCE Wildwood IV Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is my second Fender Sonoran. The first was the Lake Placid Blue model from 2013. This is a slight updgrade from that model. The tuning machines are metal, and the input jack is properly now in the strap knob position. The guitar came with high action which dissapointed me a bit. I adjusted the truss rod, and sanded the saddle down a hair. Now it is totally awesome. The sound is always what I liked...that mid-rangy big sound from the Fishman pickup. I played Takamines for years and they are awesome, but their pickups, although crystal clear, are very tinny. These Fishman pickups are powerful and can cut thru a band setting easily. The neck is really sweet, with a strat feel, and easy on the hands. Although only the top is solid wood, this does not detract at all from the plugged sound, which is why I bought the guitar. The unplugged sound is ok, but will NOT compete with a Taylor or Martin or the like. It's really a guitar mean for the plugged situation. Beautiful DAO wood grain thing on back and sides. Headstock too...has that grain and looks great. Definitely a step up from the regular Sonoran.

this is my 2nd fender sonoran the first an sce was ready to play pretty well out of the box. The wildwood required lowering the bridge about an eighth of an inch. Also the wildwood neck is a few millimeters wider at the heel and this really takes away from the strat feel of the neck. This guitar does have excellent sound and is made out of the most beautiful wood I have seen used in a guitar.

Comments about Fender Sonoran SCE Wildwood IV Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have never bought a guitar without trying it first. When MF had this guitar in their door-buster sale, I had thought about taking a gamble. But I went to several guitar stores to find this guitar so I can try it or at least look at it in person… but no luck. Nobody had it.

Having bought another 12-string Fender Jumbo acoustic and being very happy with it, I thought it might be worth the gamble.

As it turns out, it is the perfect guitar for me. Looks great, plays even better and the sound is perfect whether it's unplugged or plugged in. No need to grind down the bridge as the height was perfect. Any lower and I would risk a buzzing sound. Just did a little tuning and off I go.

I'm not sure why Fender isn't a force to be reckoned with in the acoustic world. Every time I grab acoustics in the guitar store and play all the brands in that class, Fender always stands out for me. The only reason I can think of is it's because they are made in China. While that is usually a warning label, Fender seems to have a tight control over the standards as this guitar is great. I'm very happy with the purchase.

Kudos to MF as there were no scratches and the guitar was at my front step within two days.
