I bought this guitar about 2 months ago. The finish is beautiful. However, there are a couple of things you need to know. The model I got only had two springs on the tremolo block. I installed more springs so the unit would stay in tune. I also had a professional setup the unit. Prior to this action, I had fret buzz on the three bottom strings from the 7th fret on up. One also has Seymour Duncan pickups on this guitar. If you are looking fora good straight rock and roll sound, you are in that ballpark. If planning to play metal on this guitar, this ain't it. With all non-stacked pickups, there is a bit of noise. However, the reversed wound pickups on the middle and neck provide a sound to die for. This unit did not come with a case. I have since purchased a Fender case from Musicians Friend. Overall, this is a good unit. But, be advised, one will need to do a few things to make this good unit great.

I purchased mine over a year ago. I chose this model over a sunburst American model to save some cash....that was a mistake. After a couple weeks of playing I started having a problem with the high E sting getting caught under the edge of the highest 3 frets. I failed to notice this tiny, barely visible space under the frets before purchasing. After some more thorough inspection I noticed that the frets sit on the neck like 100 year old railroad ties. How I managed to not notice this in the store is beyond me.I used it in the recording studio for a whole 5 minutes before I realized that this guitar is too noisy for studio work. There is a constant buzz that a noise gate won't take care of. The pickups are Seymour Duncans, but they still somehow manage to sound like dog sh!t. I am 100% disappointed with this guitar. I consider myself to be a "Strat-man" and have been playing Fender Strats for 15 years. This is by far the lowest quality Strat I have ever played. I have 2 Mexican Strats that blow this thing away.Moral of the story: don't by Korean made products. Buy American Stratocasters.I'm selling mine.....on the cheap

    Fender Koa Strat

    By Jim Joe Kelly

    from Georgia

I bought one guitar and had to return it the next day because I saw this beauty sitting in the used section. I kind of bought it on impulse because it played like a dream. However, for a while, I didn't play it much because the intonation was terrible and it would always go out of tune. Took it to a repair shop, got it set up and it plays and sounds amazing. BUT, I tried switching out the whiter pearloid pickguard for a tortoise shell one and had to spend an extra 40 bucks to route out the neck joint for it to fit. Overall, if you're willing to put a little bit of money into it, it really pays off in the end. Great guitar, but not right out of the box.

    Beautiful Strat

    By Joe Galus

    from Michigan City, IN

I bought this at the Seattle Guitar Show 2 years ago. I was struck by the beauty of the wood. The back of the neck is gorgeous birdseye maple. The bridge is solid, very heavy. I've owned about 10 Strats, this one is the best looking. As far as playability, it's a bit rough. I 've had to set it up and tweak the neck quite often. The Seymour Duncans sound great, except for the bridge pickup..It sounds very thin for a Duncan..Squealy actually. I use 10 gauge, 3 springs in back, use nut sauce on the string trees, and the nut, and the whammy still throws it out of tune quite often. Be prepared to have this thing set up if you don't know how to do it. I would definitely play one before you buy it sight unseen. It has some quirks, but for the money, it's pretty decent.

    Great Guitar

    By rvhughes

    from Augusta, ME

I have owned this guitar going on 2 years and I love it. I had always wanted that "Fender Sound" and this guitar delivers. I found this at a local music store and went to check it out every day for about a week before buying. I just had to have it. I had to write and say I have had very little problems. If you dive bomb a lot and try to throw it out of tune, sure you can do that but if you use it like Eddy or Jeff B. it will stay in tune. There are things you have to do to a floating trem. Add a drop in machine oil to string at the bridge, nut and trees. A lot of players will block them to lock the trem. Anyway I want to say this guitar has that "Great Fender Sound"!

    Needs Some Work

    By DMac17

    from Monroe, LA

The guitar comes with only 3 springs in the tremolo, which is not near enough when using strings any heavier than what comes on the guitar. I installed heavy strings, and the guitar would not stay in tune at all. So, I put in two more springs. This took care of the tuning problems. However, BE AWARE. This is a Koa top on a Basswood body. Basswood is light, but not very strong. With heavy strings, the tremolo block pulled itself out of the body, and ended up cracking the Koa veneer on top. Overall, a decent guitar, but only if you use light strings.

    Not Worth It

    By Name-u5tnL

    from Northern Virginia

This would be a decent strat if it was cheaper. I returned this guitar after getting it. Right out of the box it just didn't feel right. The neck feels horrible and overall it just has a cheap feel to it. Nothing special in tone ... just didn't do it for me. Would not recommend (would recommend if it was closer to $300).

    a little disappointment

    By Chris nutting

    from new hampshire

I bought this guitar a few months ago, thinking that the koa would be a good idea. When I finally got it in the mail I opened it up and this guitar could NOT stay in tune what-so-ever. it was really bad. So i opened up the back and found only TWO SPRINGS!!! for the tremelo. if i strummed, did a bend or even put back in its case it would fall right out of tune. the intonation was also way out of wack!! i brought to a store to put it another spring to see if that would help and it did. it still falls out of tune a little bit, but not like it did. so if you're thinking about buying this guitar be prepared to do a few things to it. its like buying a mercedes benz with no wheels. you spend a good chunck of money and still it wasnt anywhere near the quality i thought it was going to be. I am probably gunna get rid of it and buy an american. best of luck!!!

    Beutifull guitar an sound

    By Nativebluesman

    from Seattle

I bought this guitar 6 months ago an it was worth every penny. 2 months after buying the KOA I went to the music store and even the high end american's didn't play as fine as mine. I did have to set it up an put new strings on it as well as add another spring in the back to keep it in tune. I also lowered the bridge an got rid of the wammy bar. an now it play's like a dream. I can truly say that this guitar has made me a better player 3 fold of course I havent put it down since I got it. The C-shape neck is awsome an makes for a fast neck. Ill never get rid of this one. Do yourself a favor an BUY IT TODAY!!!
