I've been using Fender Standard Strats for many years now. I'm a professional musician and have been making a living out of guitar playing for the last 30 years and the last 20 years or so I've been using Strats almost exclusively. I've also been repairing and customizing guitars for over 25 years so I do have enough knowledge to back up this review and what I'm about to write.

Aside from the now discontinued Highway One series, the Road Worn Series, and a few classic models, the Standard Stratocaster is maybe one of the most traditional feeling Startocasters for under a grand. I prefer these over the American Series any day. The construction is equal to the quality of the American made. The electronics are of quality CTS pots and the selector switch is the same as the high end American models. The same can be said about the tuners. The bridge is vintage style which provides a more traditional feel and tone than the bridge used in the American Series. The pickups are decent sounding and usable although upgrading is usually what most players will want to do to personalize their individual tone. Even the American made Strats get pickup upgrades so it's not an issue. Body wood is alder and of good quality with an excellent finish. I prefer the neck on these over the neck used on the American Series because it's slightly thicker and rounder. Medium frets are just perfect.

I can't find anything negative to say about these guitars. I've bought about 20 of these and as a repairman, I've had several in my shop for set ups and upgrades and I can truly say, I've never seen a lemon. Sure, like any guitar, it will require a personal set up including anything from action, intonation, neck set up, fret polish, pick up balancing, and many other regular maintenance issues so it is unfair to consider this as being a con. It's just part of owning any guitar.

Even if you decide to upgrade anything, for example, adding locking tuners (direct fit by the way), pickups, Strap Locks, and a case, you still end up spending less than a grand. Keep this in mind. My Standard Strats are always upgraded by installing a set of Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups, Fender Deluxe Locking Tuners, Brass Tremolo block, Gator case, and frequent string changing with Ernie Ball 11's. I set my action fairly high (5/64ths at 12th fret), polish frets regularly, and check intonation at every string change. The bridge is blocked (I don't use the trem) and it has 5 springs holding it flat to the body.

By the way, the newer models currently built are the best I've seen yet. Definitely a bargain. Built by machines and human beings in Mexico, as opposed to being built by machines and human beings in the United States. Contrary to some ridiculous and ignorant ways of thinking, country of origin does not dictate quality. At least not in the last ten years or so. These Standards have come a long way. How can you make it better? Paint them with nitro cellulose lacquer. That's about it. Try one out.

Hardware had to be tightened, neck had to be tightened and adjusted which cracked the finish by the neck joint, finish very thick in that area, luckily its very hard to see, I don't count the bridge adjustments because that is a matter of each players comfort, small scratches on the top by the strap button, and a few small dents where your arm rests, looks like they were in the wood and finished over. Nice feeling and sounding guitar, maybe I got a bad one. Luckily I got it on sale, I understand its a cheaper guitar but I think they could do better than that. I'd like to get a white one but not at the price, I will wait for another sale and cross my fingers in hopes I get a good one. I recommend it but only to those who have done guitar repair before, not to a beginner.

I am a novice guitar player. I've been playing for a few years for my own enjoyment. What I can say is that I plug this Fender Stratocaster guitar in to my Peavy Vypyr I amp and I can hear some great, clean tones. I am enjoying my new toy a lot. Can't wait to get back to playing every day. I'm very happy with this guitar. It's a keeper!

I have played acoustic guitar my whole life, and wanted a Fender Stratocaster to learn how to play rock n' roll. I play by ear, and am having a blast with this guitar! Best I have ever had, and am playing bar chords and faster than I ever could imagine.

Have played with middle of the road guitars all my life.
Basically have taken beaters, set them up best as possible and went from there.
This guitar is a heckuva deal.
                  Pretty much arrived perfectly setup.
I adjusted the intonation slightly; but other than that sounds great and plays like butter.
                  Definitely recommend.
                  You won't be disappointed.

Contrary to some ridiculous and ignorant ways of thinking, country of origin does not dictate quality. At least not in the last ten years or so. These Standards have come a long way. How can you make it better? Paint them with nitro cellulose lacquer. That's about it. Try one out.

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fretboard:

I honestly couldn't think of a "Con" for this guitar. One can't complain that it requires proper set-up (truss, bridge, pick-up's, intonation, etc...) because Musicians Friend is in the business of selling instruments, not tuning them. Mine was no different---it required some adjustment to MY ear and amps.
The Arctic White will fool you. In my opinion it is more "Olympic" than Arctic, and/or becomes Olympic with time (which is a 100% plus in my book), simply gorgeous!
The maple neck (mine anyway) has some delicious characteristics in the wood grain, and stands out nice against the white body. So pleased with the looks.
The hardware on mine is top notch as well...never have to tune this thing regardless of how hard I play or humidity, etc...(understand that I DO NOT use the tremolo though, so not sure what that would do to it).
The pick-up's are fine by me. Don't know what it would sound like through a cheap amp...but on my Fender Ultimate Chorus (Solid State) or Fender Hot Rod DeVille (Tube), it sounds amazing bare naked or with my favorite affects pedals.
Where a guitar is assembled is NEVER an issue for me...it is Fender materials, and Fender Spec's. I like this guitar better than my American Highway One Strat.
Get out your credit card; you'll be glad you did.

Amazing guitar. Was the first guitar i knew ill never get rid of in my life. The feel is incredible and it looks and sounds amazing. I'm in a funk reggae rock band so it fits our sound perfectly. Sounds great with cleans and heavy with distortion. Only downside to this great guitar is that it gets detuned from excessive bending/any whammy bar use I recommend Using middle/neck pickup for cleans and middle for Distortion. I have played fender american strats that didnt feel/sound as good as this one.
