I've been using Fender Standard Strats for many years now. I'm a professional musician and have been making a living out of guitar playing for the last 30 years and the last 20 years or so I've been using Strats almost exclusively. I've also been repairing and customizing guitars for over 25 years so I do have enough knowledge to back up this review and what I'm about to write.

Aside from the now discontinued Highway One series, the Road Worn Series, and a few classic models, the Standard Stratocaster is maybe one of the most traditional feeling Startocasters for under a grand. I prefer these over the American Series any day. The construction is equal to the quality of the American made. The electronics are of quality CTS pots and the selector switch is the same as the high end American models. The same can be said about the tuners. The bridge is vintage style which provides a more traditional feel and tone than the bridge used in the American Series. The pickups are decent sounding and usable although upgrading is usually what most players will want to do to personalize their individual tone. Even the American made Strats get pickup upgrades so it's not an issue. Body wood is alder and of good quality with an excellent finish. I prefer the neck on these over the neck used on the American Series because it's slightly thicker and rounder. Medium frets are just perfect.

I can't find anything negative to say about these guitars. I've bought about 20 of these and as a repairman, I've had several in my shop for set ups and upgrades and I can truly say, I've never seen a lemon. Sure, like any guitar, it will require a personal set up including anything from action, intonation, neck set up, fret polish, pick up balancing, and many other regular maintenance issues so it is unfair to consider this as being a con. It's just part of owning any guitar.

Even if you decide to upgrade anything, for example, adding locking tuners (direct fit by the way), pickups, Strap Locks, and a case, you still end up spending less than a grand. Keep this in mind. My Standard Strats are always upgraded by installing a set of Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups, Fender Deluxe Locking Tuners, Brass Tremolo block, Gator case, and frequent string changing with Ernie Ball 11's. I set my action fairly high (5/64ths at 12th fret), polish frets regularly, and check intonation at every string change. The bridge is blocked (I don't use the trem) and it has 5 springs holding it flat to the body.

By the way, the newer models currently built are the best I've seen yet. Definitely a bargain. Built by machines and human beings in Mexico, as opposed to being built by machines and human beings in the United States. Contrary to some ridiculous and ignorant ways of thinking, country of origin does not dictate quality. At least not in the last ten years or so. These Standards have come a long way. How can you make it better? Paint them with nitro cellulose lacquer. That's about it. Try one out.

Hardware had to be tightened, neck had to be tightened and adjusted which cracked the finish by the neck joint, finish very thick in that area, luckily its very hard to see, I don't count the bridge adjustments because that is a matter of each players comfort, small scratches on the top by the strap button, and a few small dents where your arm rests, looks like they were in the wood and finished over. Nice feeling and sounding guitar, maybe I got a bad one. Luckily I got it on sale, I understand its a cheaper guitar but I think they could do better than that. I'd like to get a white one but not at the price, I will wait for another sale and cross my fingers in hopes I get a good one. I recommend it but only to those who have done guitar repair before, not to a beginner.

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fretboard:

This is my second one. Bought a 2012 Arctic White (in 2012), and now I have a 2015 Candy Apple Red as well.
I kept visiting the product page waiting for a good "Open Box" deal, and I got one. Guitar was advertised in Mint condition, and that is how it showed up. SWEET!
Only set-up I had to do was set intonation to my taste. Bridge saddles were set, truss rod was set (perfect bow and string height). Put my favorite strings on it (I don't mess with anything but 11's and the guitar does not come with 11's).
I DID have to raise the pick-up's just a little, to get a bit more beef out of it....but that is just ones own ear, and taste.
These MIM Standards are well built guitars, and I have been lucky to get some delicious "fisheye" characteristics in my Maple wood grains as well.
Just beautiful both to the eyes, and the ears.

Brown Burst color. No sense in repeating all the reviews. Went back and forth with this and the American Standard. Came to my pocket book senses and took one home to try. Not a flaw on it and it sounds just killer clean through a Blues Jr. Set up is excellet out of the box. Its got the Strat sound.

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fretboard:

You can't beat this guitar at this price. I bought the arctic white for less than the other finishes! Nice action, comfortable to play, and beautiful to look at. One minor problem: I had to return the first one I received because of a crack and a chip on the body finish next to the neck. I believe the guitar accidentally slipped through QC this way because someone had written a number in black marker (86, I think) on the body where the neck is joined (adjacent to the crack and chip). However, Musicians Friend provided a free return and the replacement is great. The guitar is made in Mexico.

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fretboard:

I own a 50th anniversary strat, almost 20 years old, purchased used from the original owner. With basic maintenance, a MIM will last just as long as any American strat. I would recommend the standard MIM with some upgrades to the musician looking for the most value for his/her money.

One thing to note: there are some variations each year regarding material, hardware, and electronics. Mine happens to have a poplar body, vintage style neck (old contour/fretboard radius and frets), vintage style bridge, and modern style non-locking tuners. The stock pups were ceramic but were upgraded to DiMarzios.

The bottom line is that it is still a Fender Stratocaster, and you will get more for your money with just a few upgrades. You should consider buying new if you like modern style design or used if you prefer vintage style. Always try an instrument before purchasing!

The standard MIM Fender Stratocaster, finish is
flawless. I chose the sunburst. I thought the burst could have been a little lighter in color
while its certainly not a detractor. The fret work is fine, and the guitar sounds great and plays great. I got the 15% off and also the holiday special. As usual musicians friend are the best to deal with. Better hurry up and grab one of these babies. Tennessee Lee

This Guitar is EPIC, I got one of these used for a steal and it rocks my socks, man! It gives a classic sweet strat tone for a very reasonable price, if you are a beginner, get one of these used and you won't be disappointed. I actually put Gold Lace Sensors, a LSR Roller Nut, and Locking Tuners in to resemble my dad's strat plus from the 90's, which he unfortunetly sold. I am a big Clapton, SRV, and Hendrix fan, so I had to get a strat. I love the sound of the unchanged strat as well as my upgraded. I would definitely reccomend this to anyone looking for that epic strat tone for a good price
