I've been using Fender Standard Strats for many years now. I'm a professional musician and have been making a living out of guitar playing for the last 30 years and the last 20 years or so I've been using Strats almost exclusively. I've also been repairing and customizing guitars for over 25 years so I do have enough knowledge to back up this review and what I'm about to write.

Aside from the now discontinued Highway One series, the Road Worn Series, and a few classic models, the Standard Stratocaster is maybe one of the most traditional feeling Startocasters for under a grand. I prefer these over the American Series any day. The construction is equal to the quality of the American made. The electronics are of quality CTS pots and the selector switch is the same as the high end American models. The same can be said about the tuners. The bridge is vintage style which provides a more traditional feel and tone than the bridge used in the American Series. The pickups are decent sounding and usable although upgrading is usually what most players will want to do to personalize their individual tone. Even the American made Strats get pickup upgrades so it's not an issue. Body wood is alder and of good quality with an excellent finish. I prefer the neck on these over the neck used on the American Series because it's slightly thicker and rounder. Medium frets are just perfect.

I can't find anything negative to say about these guitars. I've bought about 20 of these and as a repairman, I've had several in my shop for set ups and upgrades and I can truly say, I've never seen a lemon. Sure, like any guitar, it will require a personal set up including anything from action, intonation, neck set up, fret polish, pick up balancing, and many other regular maintenance issues so it is unfair to consider this as being a con. It's just part of owning any guitar.

Even if you decide to upgrade anything, for example, adding locking tuners (direct fit by the way), pickups, Strap Locks, and a case, you still end up spending less than a grand. Keep this in mind. My Standard Strats are always upgraded by installing a set of Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups, Fender Deluxe Locking Tuners, Brass Tremolo block, Gator case, and frequent string changing with Ernie Ball 11's. I set my action fairly high (5/64ths at 12th fret), polish frets regularly, and check intonation at every string change. The bridge is blocked (I don't use the trem) and it has 5 springs holding it flat to the body.

By the way, the newer models currently built are the best I've seen yet. Definitely a bargain. Built by machines and human beings in Mexico, as opposed to being built by machines and human beings in the United States. Contrary to some ridiculous and ignorant ways of thinking, country of origin does not dictate quality. At least not in the last ten years or so. These Standards have come a long way. How can you make it better? Paint them with nitro cellulose lacquer. That's about it. Try one out.

Hardware had to be tightened, neck had to be tightened and adjusted which cracked the finish by the neck joint, finish very thick in that area, luckily its very hard to see, I don't count the bridge adjustments because that is a matter of each players comfort, small scratches on the top by the strap button, and a few small dents where your arm rests, looks like they were in the wood and finished over. Nice feeling and sounding guitar, maybe I got a bad one. Luckily I got it on sale, I understand its a cheaper guitar but I think they could do better than that. I'd like to get a white one but not at the price, I will wait for another sale and cross my fingers in hopes I get a good one. I recommend it but only to those who have done guitar repair before, not to a beginner.

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fretboard:

I've had my black Strat for over 10 years and I don't see how it could be made better. Although the stock pickups were fine, I was unable to live with the buzz/hum from the standard pickups. I upgraded to Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups and it is now quiet and sounds the same as any regular Strat pickups without the noise. I had used the 1 meg pots and the .022 cap that were provided with the pickups, but there was very little change in volume or tone with the 1 meg pots. I replaced them with 250K pots (CTS) and .047 cap (Orange Drop) and it sounds great! I also added a Graph Tech nut. This guitar stays in tune and sounds as good as any Strat I've ever heard. These MIM Strats provide a great platform to upgrade and I will be happy to use it for any music anywhere.

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fretboard:

Comfortable guitar with a well rounded amount of options for most players. Maple neck felt smooth, very bright & crisp tones and it was thin enough for some speed when needing to move about the fretboard. Finish on the neck is light enough varnish to let you feel a bit of the wood grain. Sound from the pickups is old school classic strat twangy tone fitting for blues, country, classic rock, jazz, or folk players depending on which of the 5-way pickup selections you are in. One complaint is that the stock pickups have a noisy 60hz buzz when in single pickup positions. In combined 2-pickup positions most of the buzz is pulled out. Most people modify these pickups or control cavity because of the noise issues. Neck pickup, middle and neck/middle positions sound best for most players needs. The bridge pickup lacks any of the stronger mellow tones a humbucker might give you so certain players obviously will not like this for their style of music. Tuners were solid performers staying in tune for a long time and have an old school look. Tremolo is not very useful especially if you are a Floyd Rose type player. The body is very comfortable to hold while sitting or standing. Finish is sharp polished thick coating. Choose the Candy Apple red. Overall a great guitar in it's price range. If you wanted to modify it or customize there are a hundreds of options available to you. Have made a few mods myself.

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fretboard:

I had not played in twenty years. But After my retirement, I became bored, so my musician friends suggested that I buy a guitar. /when the guitar arrived, I could not believe how awesome it was. After all, I always wanted a Stratocaster. (Had an American Strat, Girl took it back when I left) When I picked it up I could not play. I panic, called my friend who is a pro guitar player that plays across America. He came over and played the s--t out of. He licked it better than his American Strat. He told me to calm down and he would give me lessons. Wee I thought to myself, WOW, I have played in 6 states during my music career and do not even know the notes except the open strings (10 years), When I practice, the overall quality, the ease to play, the sound, and the beauty makes me very happy to own my Stratocaster!

I have been playing music for a long time and also in a 50's and 60's band. I like the nice pretty blue that i saw and read all the reviews on these guitars and everything sounds good. Can not afford a real pricey standard Strat, but this is about as close and if not as good as one. I like the guitars that have the maple neck cause they feel smooth and play better than the rose wood necks. They have their own sound and play a lot better and very easy to go up and down the neck when playing lead and bar chords. The price is right and it is worth every penny for this type of Strat. Very nicely built and the color is beautiful !
