I bought this guitar after not having one for 10 years. I agonized over Fender or Ibanez and the store employee convinced me to go with the Fender. I have not been disappointed. In fact, I love this axe. This Mexican model plays as well as an American model I played in the store and since it costs much less it's a great value. It doesn't have the locking tuning knobs and it has a plastic nut but those items obviously don't affect the sound. The humbucker gives it great crunch yet you can dial it down for more traditional blues sounds with the single coils. It comes setup for .009 gauge on the high E and it plays very smoothly. I've had it for 6 months and I love this guitar.

I got this guitar and was stunned at the finish quality. It is truly beautiful. The bad news: The set up out of the box was absolutely unacceptable. It plays very very well after a full set up though. Also, some fret edges are sharp and not dressed properly. Once again it needed to be filed and set up. And the pickups are very generic and un-inspired. The Bridge pickup is only suited to a light distortion, not full on shred type gain. Im planning on replacing ALL the electronics with USA made components. The build quality is so good that after all these set up issues and parts upgrades it will be a very useable and dependable guitar. I got mine used from Musiciansfriend, and got it on sale. If I had not gotten it so cheap, I would have passed on it. But since the price was right I dont mind taking the time and money to upgrade everything else. So if you want a decent guitar right out of the box, this is a gamble. I would probably look elsewhere. But If you want a guitar thats built super well, and can be something very special after some work, then try one out!

Purchased on 10/26/12
First off, let me say the guitar I received was beautiful! The problem came after I put new Ernie Ball strings on and set it up. The tremolo was sketchy at best. Once I tuned the thing and strummed it, after about 30 minutes the strings were out of tune. The pickups aren't the best. I love the hot sound I get from the humbucker, but the single coils I found were rather weak, almost thought they were wired wrong. I cant get rid of a buzz on the low E string no matter how much I tweek it.
I kind of figured that these things would come at the price I paid, but I'm going to have to have to invest in better pickups and have to pay to have a professional try and set it up to get rid of that buzz.
If I had to do it over, I'd pay more money to get the better components. If you have a limited budget, and want a beautiful, well crafted Mexican Fender, you should pick this one up. Be prepared to put money into it if you expect better sounds though.

I've had several nice American Deluxe Strats, and IMO you can't beat this guitar for the money. It's a great Strat in its own right, regardless of price. I love a Sienna Sunburst finish and ash bodies anyway, and the wood and finish are as nice as any Strat I've seen. The Sienna burst has a warm tint to the center, and the neck is warm tinted to make it not so bare white-looking as some other downline maple necks. The neck is fast and plays very well. Frets are well-finished on the ends so no sharp edges or stickouts. THe neck is comfortable, although slightly thinner than I prefer (I like a chunkier neck) but it's fine. The body wood is good-looking and straight grained. Best of all, it's nicely resonant. Ash is heavier than basswood or alder, so this model weighs more than non-ash Strats, and the tone is generally brighter/spankier...balances a rosewood fretboard's mellower-then-maple tone just right for me. I can get surf or twang or funk/soul with the volume backed off some. With the volume dimed, it growls nicely. I changed the bridge assembly out for a Callaham complete bridge assembly, got a new Fender tortoise SSS pickguard and loaded it with new CTS pots, Oak Grigsby switch, and Tom Anderson single coils (VA7/VA7R/VA7+), put on black knobs, pickup covers, and vibrato arm tip. It looks great and plays great, with killer vintage sound. I have less in it than an American Standard costs, and it's a LOT better guitar. Even as-is, it's a GREAT value and a nice instrument with room to get better.

A nice medium use guitar, sounds good, nice pickup quality. New strings and a few adjustments and the guitar sounds and feels good. Had to add a spring in the trem bridge to compensate for better strings but that was to be expected. I am very happy with it.

My expiernce with the HSS Standard Startocaster has been different. The guitar seems to be built with cheap parts, for example; 6 of the saddle height adjustment screws came bent, the saddles seem bent, the humbucker sounds terrible, no amount of adjustment can make the low e sound right, cover screws front and back were ready to fall out and can't be tightened, the finger board is so rough in some places it interfers with bends.

Right out of the box this guitar has a flawless finish!..No fret Buzz,string action was great!.no sharp fret ends..then I plugged it in,this is the second strat I own with the humbucker in it.but This guitar Sounds way way better!!..and I used a Fender 25 watt sidekick amp to run it through every pick up configuration etc..No Effects..Sounds Amazing. This is NOW my go to guitar !..can't wait to run it through my Mustang amp..and will be doing some recording with it soon..stays in tune,and it is super fun to play from rock to blues,this guitar does it all..BUY ONE NOW!!..and Rock On!!
