    What a Workhorse!

    Features:

The Standard Telecaster is just that--a standard Tele. No frills here, nothing but the bare bones. But believe me, that's all you really need with this guitar. With that three way switch, master volume and master tone, a heck of a lot is possible. I suppose I'll add, for those new to the Telecaster, that the string-thru body and bridge/pickup plate are a great combo. Loads of sustain, easy to restring, and that classic Tele twang. The neck is fairly rounded, which makes for easy chords and riffing, but is not as proficient in the area of blistering speed. It's completely possible to shred on this guitar. There are just a fair number out there which are faster. To be honest, the only reason I gave 3.5 stars on features is that this guitar is pretty simple. I've never wished for more bells & whistles on my Tele, which is saying something for a gear hog like myself. The truth is, this one guitar can give you a massive tonal palette, despite its technical simplicity. In particular, the range from mellow jazz in the neck to biting twang at the bridge means this guitar always seems to get called up when I'm looking for a really stand-out vibe.

    Quality:

My Tele was my first guitar purchase, years ago. My first electric guitar, a Laguna, had been a gift. Even after a few months playing, I wasn't really sure what I was looking for in a guitar. I spent very little time checking out the neck, for example, or playing through a lot of amp voicings. Fortunately, the guitar I settled on was a winner. I can't speak for all of the Mexican Standards--in fact, a Mex Strat I tried last year was so unpleasant it sent me up to an American model. However, my Tele is gorgeous. The neck, in particular, is one of the nicest I have ever played. In terms of fit and finish, it certainly rivals my American Strat. The only complaint I can make is slight buzz which comes and goes on seemingly random strings, but I attribute this to weather fluctuations, since it never sticks around. Finally, this thing is a rock. A huge piece of wood, which makes me feel much more comfortable about its durability than I do with some other models.

    Value:

Assuming the quality of mine is par for the course, the Mexican made Standard Tele is entirely worth the five bills you'll probably be looking at wherever you go. I managed to snag it a bit cheaper, which certainly added to the value for me. At this price point, there are probably some other great guitars you should look at before you make up your mind, but this one consistantly delivers. I wouldn't call it a bargain. You get what you pay for--but in this what you're paying for is a classic that still rocks hard in almost any setting.

    Overall:

For those who are still messing about with the guitar, you may want to stay in a lower price bracket altogether. But for the intermediate guitarist looking for something to cover all the bases, or a working musician who needs an affordable workhorse, this is a solid choice. It may not me my main axe anymore, as my playing preference has shifted toward a thinner, wider neck. But this one will never leave my stable, and it still gets a lot of play. It's a versatile, hard-working guitar that can really help you define your sound. An axe everyone should try at some point.

    Standard Telecaster

    Features:

In my opinion, probably one of THE BEST out of the box deals your going to find on an electric guitar anywhere.  It does everything right.  There are no real drawbacks.  If this guitar is not playing the way you'd like it to...you probably need to consider the player more than the instrument - no joke. (At the most - perhaps you need to go through it and set it up)  If you've been playing 1 month, consider this as a your first electric - if you've been playing 20 years, consider this if you'd like to own a Telecaster.

My Favorite Instrument in the World!

    | Review By: Matt Mitchell | 4 months, 3 weeks ago

    Features:

Fender Standard Telecaster: Two knobs, two pups. Sealed tuners hold tuning nicely. Maple fretboard provides all the twang. Alder body with string-through bridge gives lots of sustain. The 6-saddle bridge gives better intonation than the vintage Tele bridge, without sacrificing sound.

    Quality:

These are pro-level instruments which are built to last. I had a nut snap on one of mine after about 5 years, but that's the only problem I've ever had with one. My second Mexican Tele withstood about 7+ years of salt-water air. When I got my hands on it, I wiped down the metal parts with some vinegar-water and it's good as new, no corrosion what-so-ever.

    Value:

Fender Mexican Standards are the best value in guitars. Much better quality and sound than Epiphones, cheap Ibanezes or other mid-priced guitars. There's no reason a pro can't bring this to a gig and feel proud.

    Overall:

I have owned two of these guitars. The first one I bought new in 2000 and it was my main gigging guitar until 2006, when I bought a '69 Thinline Reissue. The recession caused me to sell most of my music equipment, but when I started playing again this year, a friend of mine gave me his Mexican Standard Tele that was collecting dust in his basement, and I can't be happier!

Plug this baby into a Fender tube amp and you're in tone heaven.

The only problem I have with this instrument are the ceramic pickups. But, you can swap out a for a pair of AlNiCo pups and still come in way under the cost of an Am Std. Also, I'd like the 4-way switch, but that is nit-picking.

    Absolutely awesome guitar!

    Features:

Absolutely delighted with this guitar, was a bit skeptical about the "made in Mexico" standard but I have no problem at all with this ax!  A couple of friends have the American standard and one other has a deluxe tele and all three say this guitar is no different than theirs with the exception of the hard case they have. The only change I made was changing the white pickguard to black, just like the look better, I wouldn't change anything else!

    Quality:

Beautiful guitar out of the box, not a blemish anywhere!

    Value:

Great bang for your buck, you can't go wrong getting this guitar! Lots of color choices, I got the candy apple red, looks much better than the online pictures!

    Overall:

Overall, completely satisfied! Always dreamed of owning a tele, was about to spend the extra $ for the American standard, very glad I didn't!

    Features:

I really dig this guitar, I've been playing teles and strats for years, I went into a faze where i just played a gibson sg and a borrowed les paul, Not to take away anything from these guitars but i felt so one dimensinal (i just felt like everything was coming out with a rock feel to it) not that there is anything wrong with that, So i went back to my beloved Fenders, I picked up a new telecaster a couple of weeks ago and it was like i was reborn, I left the stock pickups on it, I run it through a digitech effects box and a number of effects pedals, And now I'm hooked, The range i have with this guitar is unreal, I think i found my new everyday guitar, Thank you fender
