OVERVIEW

The new standard with groundbreaking switching possibilities and supreme playability.

This is the most versatile Les Paul Standard ever created, the ultimate embodiment of Les Paul’s vision of innovation and elegance, and truly represents a marriage of timeless tone with contemporary flexibility and playability. Key features include a superbly comfortable new asymmetrical rendition of the SlimTaper™ neck profile that fits the player’s hand like a glove, a compound-radius rosewood fingerboard, and stealth wiring for the great BurstBucker Pro™ 1 & 2 pickups that provides individual coil splitting, phase reversal, and Pure Bypass switching all without changing the look of the classic control layout. To top it off, this Les Paul Standard 2013 looks sublime in its Grade-AA figured top in nitrocellulose lacquer. Includes case.

The Les Paul Standard 2013 follows the same formula as the most beloved Les Pauls of all time. The marriage of solid maple top and mahogany back, treated to Gibson’s new modern weight relief pattern for improved comfort and enhanced resonance, provides a blend of richness, depth, punch, and clarity that no single-wood guitar can provide.

A solid, quarter-sawn mahogany neck is carved in a new asymmetrical version of the popular ’60s profile, making it one of the most appealing necks Gibson has ever produced, and its topped with a bound rosewood fingerboard with a superbly playable compound radius that’s rounder down in the “open chord” positions and flatter up in the lead zone. Traditional trapezoid inlays keep it all looking just right, along with cream binding, pickguard, and pickup rings, amber top-hat knobs, and a traditional black-and-white bell truss rod cover. Classic Gibson constructional elements ensure the new Les Paul Standard plays just like the greatest Standards ever, with traditional specs like a 24 ¾” scale length, and a 1 11/16” width across the PLEK-cut Corian™ nut.

The new Les Paul Standard’s real surprises lurk in its upgraded pickups and extremely clever wiring and control setup. A pair of BurstBucker Pro™ pickups, a #1 in the neck position and #2 in the bridge, follow the blueprint for Gibson’s hallowed PAF humbuckers of the late ’50s, but are updated with potted coils for howl-free performance at high volumes, and four-conductor wiring that allows for incredible versatility.

The independent volume pot for each pickup has push-pull switching to independently split the coils for single-coil tones, with hum-cancelling performance in the middle position thanks to a reverse-wound/reverse-polarity bridge pickup. Pop up the neck pickup’s tone control for reverse-phase tones, or lift the bridge pickup’s tone knob to tap Gibson’s new Pure Bypass setting, which routes that pickup straight through to the output jack, bypassing the volume and tone controls for a hotter, clearer sound, making it a great “instant lead” preset.

The innovative pairing of a locking TonePros™ Tune-o-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece ensures solid sustain and precise intonation, while a set of high-quality locking Grover™ kidney-button tuners ensures smooth, accurate tuning.

Each guitar comes protected in a plush-lined hardshell case with black exterior, and includes owner's manual and adjustment literature.

Bottom line upfront- great tone, nice build, sloppy QA/QC by Gibson, pricey.

My new Les Paul std arrived. The first impression was not good. The high e and b strings were broken on arrival, neck covered in grime and some concentration of grey dirt melted on neck. My first thought was what is wrong with Gibson? The guitar's paperwork showed it was inspected in jan 13. My guess is it sat in a warehouse since collecting dirt.

After restringing the guitar and cleaning the grime off it I gave it a serious test drive actually looking to unload it. Immediately I realized upon plugging in to my 5150 half stack that this guitar has a killer tone. I was very impressed by the tone of the guitar. I soon compared it against my favorite guitar - a Deep Purple Carvin California Custom Shop - with the LP winning slightly on tone with the Carvin winning easily on fit and finish. Next I compared it to my 1999 Gibson LP DC STD. Easy win for the 2013 LP. Last comparison, my Steve Morse Musicman. The Morse won on versatility and build quality....LP won on tone and looks.

Verdict: No doubt a nice guitar. Killer tone that lives up to the reputation. Nice build and great looking guitar. However Gibson's quality control stinks. Not the first time for me either with Gibson USA! I got a huge clearance discount from MF but I still think the guitar is overpriced. There are a lot of great choices at this price point. Having said that, if you want this truly iconic guitar and have plenty of cash, it won't disappoint you on stage and the tone lives up to the legend. I'm keeping it!

Quite a disappointment. I received my new 2013 Tea Burst Standard yesterday and it is a wreck. The bridge and stopbar look like they were installed and adjusted by a drunken chimp. Makes it hard to take the quality checklist included in the case seriously. Both pieces were screwed down on the right and barely in the thread on the left side. It is so off level that I am concerned about crossthreading and wonder if it will adjust out correctly. And if it does, will it stay in tune? I was also surprised that the back and sides are cherry. It looks medium brown in all the pics. Not terribly attractive, the cherry makes the tea burst look like a faded brownish-orange. And you get the same faux snakeskin case that comes with the much cheaper studios, etc.. I am a longtime Gibson fan and user of their products, but this is insulting. MF offered a refund, but no exchange. I'm not excited about waiting another month to finally receive another LP that may or may not be better.

Comments about Gibson 2013 Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar:

I have always wanted a top of the line Les Paul and believe me, the Standard is top of the line.
Everything about it is just about perfect... you can always nit pick, but this axe is great. Got a great deal from Musicians Friend and it arrived a day earlier than expected ! Nice out of the box
but I always do my own adjustments anyway. One thing I noticed the first time I played with my band... tuning issues . I will definitely look into that.
Otherwise, great guitar , beautiful finish , sounds great ! What more is there ?

Comments about Gibson 2013 Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar:

Wanted a 'real' LP for years and the 15% off used deal was the defining moment, great pain free purchase and delivery, Guitar was listed as level 2 used so I was expecting a few blemishes, it is almost perfect!! Looks like a showroom ex demo with a small bit of buckle rash otherwise you would not know it was not brand new, great flame finish on the awesome desert burst top, peerless tone and playability, exactly what you would expect, minor niggle are the locking tuners, not necessary in my opinion and it kept going slightly out of tune until I restrung it as normal with multiple turns around the posts, perfect tuning from there on... Much lighter than i was expecting due to the weight relief but still tons of killer tone, basically it does what it says on the tin.. classic Gibson LP Standard, get one now!!

Comments about Gibson 2013 Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar:

I recently purchases the Heritage Cherry Burst model of this guitar, and it is all that I expected from Gibson. The new Burstbucker Pro pick-ups have amazing clarity and tone, so much better than the old Epiphone I have been playing. It is a lot lighter than I expected due to the new weight reduction measures that Gibson has implemented. I would absolutley recomend this guitar to anyone looking for a guitar that will last them and will never dissapoint!

got one in translucent amber! Photos don't do it justice! Beautiful instrument. Lighter than my 1980's LP thanks to the "weight relief" feature. Still tons of sustain. Can't put it down.
