Overview

A crossover of succeeding years with a figured maple top and BurstBucker pickups.

These guitars are special: they offer the feel and tone approaching a 1959 reissue at the price of a '58. They have a '58 neck profile that's slimmer than usual (almost like a '59) that's the perfect balance between mass (which generates sustain and tone), and comfort for playability. It's one of the reasons the late '50s Les Paul is considered the peak of perfection.

They are also equipped with Gibson Custom Shop BurstBucker pickups, each with coil tapping. These are pickups that Gibson has used on some very rare and limited signature models. Coil tapping give you more tonal options than a typical Les Paul wiring configuration.

And Gibson's great color work is applied to lightly-figured maple tops, extremely rare for the year, all of which gives you the look of a great '58.

The 1958 Les Paul Electric Guitar relies on the ingredients that made the Les Paul a classic in the first place, but puts them together in the way that first began to show off what was going on underneath the finish. The Gibson Custom Shop uses a body of solid, non-weight relieved mahogany, which blends depth and richness with the snap and clarity of the lightly-figured maple top. The quarter-sawn mahogany neck has a '58 transitional profile, which, in combination with the traditional long-tenon neck joint, enhances sustain and resonance as well as feeling great in the hand.

In addition to these classic ingredients, the Made to Measure 1958 Les Paul Electric Guitar also benefits from Gibson Custom's 20th Anniversary Specifications, newly adopted in 2013. These include a one-piece rosewood fingerboard, Kluson Deluxe machine heads, hot-hide glue neck fit, a Historic Truss Rod assembly with no tubing, accurate body and fretboard binding color, BurstBucker 2 and 3 pickups with push/pull coil-taps, and period-correct aniline dye beneath its gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish.

To top it all off, the 1958 Les Paul plays superbly right out of its Custom Shop hardshell case thanks to a trip through one of Gibson's state-of-the-art Plek machines before it leaves the Custom Shop floor. Every guitar includes a Certificate of Authenticity and adjustment literature.
