This guitar is simply amazing. I tried it at Guitar Center and IMMEDIATELY fell in love. I was wanting the Epiphone 166 G-400 Pro, and then I played this. The Epiphone honestly SUCKED compared to this. It feels amazing, the strings are awesome, the pickups that come WITH it are increible if you want that crunch and a really nice clean sound as well. I have a Roland MicroCube, and I know that's not the best to test it on, but definitely excited. I am also getting my Crate Vintage Club 50 worked on, so I am SO pumped for playing it on that Tube Amp. To narrow it down, ( I've been playing for 6 years ) this is the absolute closest you will get to a real Gibson SG Standard. I honestly like the feel of THIS better than the Standard, I would only pick a Standard because of the looks. If they put gloss, and trapezoid inlays, this could EASILY go for 1200 big ones. All I can say is you will be amazed at the playablity of this guitar. Don't let rumor of this guitar being ugly make you think different. WORTH EVERY CENT!!!

went for the fact that it is a gibson, made in the usa and a commemorative model. Mine has some flaws in the finish, lousy tuners (high e and b will not stay in tune after even a moderate bend) inattention to detail. there was stain on the saddle. needed a set up, but won't take points off from that. but come on Gibson, pay attention to the details even if this is not a 5K les paul or SG. somewhat disappointed if this is the best Gibson USA can turn out. For the record, I've played 40 years. while that does not make me Clapton or anybody close, i do know a well constructed instrument from a marginal one.

These 61 zebra pickups are Hot and have quick connect.
They sound very similar to the Burstbucker Pro
      Pickup.
It feels good but had to lower bridge pickup a bit,
      Cause strings were touching

Pretty good sound. Get a little it of a buzz from the frets when playing clean. Sounds awesome with distortion. Can be used for pretty much anything, very versatile, but I listed only the BEST ways of use. You won't find a better guitar for the price. Awesome buy.

Comments about Gibson 2014 SGJ14 Electric Guitar:

Nice guitar. As always, MF is quick to ship their products and I have the luxury of being near their main warehouse so I generally receive ordered-items within 2 days, very nice. On to the guitar: The guitar was accompanied by the check-off list from the factory. Unfortunately, even though the "intonation" box was checked off, the guitar will still need that addressed and I don't want to spend an extra money to fix the intonation at this time. Intonation is in the ballpark but not as good as I would have expected. I may try a string-change but the strings were new not less than one month before I received the guitar according to the date on the check list. And, the guitars ship with Cleartone strings so you'd think this wouldn't be the source or part of, an intonation problem but then again; The frets are done by the Plek system and though uniform, you can still tell the fret edges are present but not annoyingly so. The finish is quite nice and in choosing the Chocolate Satin, I believe the body of the guitar does smell something like chocolate, but that could possibly be my imagination. However, I plan not to fall asleep near it as I may wake up trying to take a bite out of it, uh, not really. The neck is termed an SG slim profile neck, but still, it feels somewhat wide to my hand. However, it is quite playable, more-so than I would have expected but I do enjoy a Gibson Studio's neck more-so than this one. String action is quite low and maybe that contributes to its playability. The pick up's sound good and the guitar is not heavy, quite light actually and I enjoy that. The knurled knobs are a great addition to any guitar and suit this one quite well. My only odd notation is that for whatever reason, I tend to strum this model over the neck pick-up area and I don't like making those types of marks on a guitar and I have so-far, resisted or purposely tried avoiding doing so. I don't seem to strum over neck pickups in other guitars but seem to do so with this one. Maybe it's the body scale or something, not a deal breaker obviously. As I'm sure is noted elsewhere, it is nice to have the 120th Anniversary logo at the 12th fret and, to see Made in the USA 2014, inset pressed into the back of the headstock. I realize USA made guitars cost more but this model is still much more affordable than a comparable entry level USA-made Fender guitar and, with this 2014 SGJ, Gibson seems to have included many features from their more expensive lines of guitar models. If funding sources allow, go ahead and get one because as soon as you realize you'd like to get one, they might have ended the Anniversary production run and you'll be left with the least favorite color to choose from or nothing at all.

Comments about Gibson 2014 SGJ14 Electric Guitar:

The thickness of the neck is between 60'S slim and 50's fat Les Paul. The satin finish make the neck easy to play, your hand slide easely on the back of the neck. The PLEK fret setting is perfect. The truss adjustment was perfect out of the box I only lowered the bridge. The sustain is very long for a solid body. I unscrewed the pole to raise the screw (3/32) on the E-A-D strings on both bridge and neck pickups, after that the bass response was better more balanced. To keep the guitar in tune you have to wire the strings like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eo5i2wkXaoY
This guitar is really light (weight). The resistances of each pickup were 7.7 K. I can play smooth jazzy sound to classic rock (i don't play metal). I have a Les Paul Custom, a Les Paul Special DC and like this SG junior for its own sound and playability. The price is very attactive, i never seen before a Gibson USA at this price.

Comments about Gibson 2014 SGJ14 Electric Guitar:

I am a pro, playing over 50 years. Owned many an SG. Still have a few. In my opinion this is Gibson's entry level SG. That does not make it bad, but don't expect an SG Standard. This SGJ is a decent guitar. It does not have the slim taper neck. I don't know where that came from. Try a 1961 re-issue and you will see a slim taper neck. This is much thicker and rounder. It's not bad, not slim. The pick ups I feel limit the guitar. They are very "sharp" sounding. With distortion, they sound fine, but clean, is another story. I found no warmth at all in a clean setting using various amps. Still, at the old price and a sale discount, it was a good buy. I would not change the pick -ups. That defeats the low cost of the guitar. I did install Gibson pick-up covers and changed the tone caps to .022 paper in oil. This helps slightly take the sharp edge off. Also, Gibson has all the electronics on a pc board, I guess as a cost cutting method. But in closing if you want the sound of 57 Classics, you will be disappointed. However, if you play hi gain stuff, you will find the pick-ups fine. Comes with a decent gig bag, however, SG's don't have much to them and I would recommend a case. But I would buy one at the old price. The new price....I don't think so. I'd save up and buy a used Standard or 61 re-issue.

mine came with a blem in the finish, right by the right horn. the body was not sanded evenly, so the finish was inconsistent there. there was traces of the finish stain on the nut, which made me unhappy. lastly, the guitar will not stay in tune thanks to inferior tuners.

i bought this becase: it is Gibson, it is made here and i support domestic manufacturing.and as a 120th anniversary model, i had hoped it would have had more attention to detail. I have played professionally for more than 40 years and know a great instrument from a so so guitar.

I read many great reviews on this 2014 SGJ that I had to try it! For the price and MF's return policy I thought I could not go wrong. I first purchased the Fire Burst Satin.....
It took three (3) orders until I received one that was in excellant condition.....the first to played nice but had visual defects in the stain and fret board.
The third one was perfect in every way! I changed the color to the Satin Sunburst Perimeter and it looks even better than the Fire Burst. Looks, sounds and feels like a HOT high end Gibson at half the price.....LOVE the 61 Zebra's!!! just keep sending it back if your not happy and it will be well worth the wait!!!
Thanks to Caitlyn aka (CAT) in costomer service. service......

I've been messing with guitars for 15yrs as a hobby. This is a very nice guitar for the money.I tuned this guitar right out of the gig bag that it came in and played a little. It sounded wonderful. The only thing I would change in this guitar is the pickups. Not that the pickups in this guitar are not quality, they are. I mean more for the sound that you desire or are looking to achieve. For example I will probably spend another couple hundred to install EMG'S.
