OVERVIEW

Classic tones straight from the '50s.

For players that prefer a more vintage feel, this year's Les Paul Studio '50s Tribute T combines all the right features at an irresistible price. It packs the prefect combination of a traditional mahogany body with modern weight relief and a grain textured satin finish maple top. These time-tested tonewoods with a set mahogany neck produce legendary Les Paul sound and resonance.

The neck sports a rounded '50s neck profile that traditionalists love. The fretbourd is made of a single piece of thick rosewood for seminal tone and enhanced sustain. A historically correct neck width and Graph Tech nut make for a familiar feel with enhanced sustain. A pair of 490R (neck) and hotter 498T (bridge) pickups showcases the full power of alnico magnets recreating faithfully the experience of the original Patent Applied For humbuckers of the day.

Traditional green-key tuners blend vintage appearance with modern performance while an ABR adjustable bridge with stopbar tailpiece makes action adjustments and intonation a snap. This year' Les Paul '50s Tribute T comes with a padded gig bag and is an exceptional value.

Mine was well made cosmetically. My pickup rings fit perfectly. Nice finish. I have a problem with staying in tune and intonation. There are a lot of flat spots on the fretboard. It's all fixable but I expect better from Gibson. The tone is great, the electronics are fabulous. I really like the modular solderless circuit board. I added chrome pickup covers. I think it looks a lot better.

The guitar that I received had questionable craftsmanship resulting in problems that should have been caught by QA. the biggest issue was the fit of the neck pickup ring against the fret board. The fretboard was slightly too long creating pressure against the neck pickup ring resulting in the ring being bowed by about an 1/8th in. in the middle. This ring would have likely cracked from the pressure at some point. The wrapping around the bridge pickup was also damaged and one of the pickup ring screws was set noticeably deeper than the others. Musicians Friend does have great customer service. I am sending the Les Paul back I know its a low end Gibson but any Gibson should have better quality control. I think I am going to try PRS to see if their quality lives up to the price.

Comments about Gibson 2016 Les Paul '50s Tribute T Electric Guitar:

I received this guitar in December and in reading the reviews I verified that my guitar has the same problem as the one user BB describes, the neck pickup ring is bowed.
When I received the guitar I noticed that the pick guard seem to be forced into position and it looked like it had been used, I thought the scratches were from when being tested at the factory.
Now I'm thinking, I might have received the same guitar user BB is talking about in his review.
It's not worth it for me to return the guitar, it plays fine, and I'll just invest in having it repaired at some time in the future, I went from being exited to being sad.
The picture that comes in the package does show the bowed pickup ring; by the way the serial number on my guitar is 160024570 Satin Vintage Sunburst.

Comments about Gibson 2016 Les Paul '50s Tribute T Electric Guitar:

I bought this brand new for a specific string of shows. I'm currently playing 6 shows a week with it and having to tune it CONSTANTLY. While it feels and sounds nice, be prepared to have extra work done. Also, I keep breaking high E strings at the bridge (and I don't play that hard)...a sharp edge on the saddle, perhaps. Gotta have that looked at, too. I probably should have spent the extra cash on a higher grade Les Paul or a even an Epi considering how much I may end up putting into this one. I just expected more from a guitar bearing the Gibson name.

Comments about Gibson 2016 Les Paul '50s Tribute T Electric Guitar:

Went to my local guitar center with the intention of buying the gold top model. Couldn't believe how poor the guitar was set up, the action and intonation were completely off. On closer inspection found that the finish was unbelievably poor – the only things I liked about the guitar were the tuning keys and the volume/tone knobs. For the price I expect the guitar to properly finished and set up ready to play – I've seen better set ups and finishes on Staggs at a sixth of the price!!!

I can't believe I got a GIBSON LES PAUL for this price. My brother in law is a professional musician and couldn't believe a Les Paul could be purchased for this amount. When I picked it up and strummed it I'm pretty sure I had an orgasm.

What a great guitar, nothing beats the growl of a les paul, tonal monster. The finish of the gold paint is superb, i don't miss the binding. Frets are well rounded, jazz sounds can be squeezed very easy as well as thick rock chords, you can notice the craftmanship of this guitar by grabbing the neck specially near the body, silky smooth, price is fair considering how gibson prices have been over the years, not one complain about this guitar

Comments about 2016 Les Paul '50s Tribute T Electric Guitar:

I'm a professional musician. I gig with this guitar. I bought it as an open-box special. So, I wasn't expecting it to be perfect, cosmetically. Especially, after reading other reviews. But, it came in looking great. No problems there. This guitar sounds and plays amazing. Neck is fast. Pickups are fat. I love it. This is my first Gibson. It came out of the box, set-up. I'm very picky about intonation. But, this one seemed solid. I started playing shows right away, with the same strings that came on it. We do a lot of twin guitar riffs, and the intonation is spot on. I also like to tune often. So, the tuning issue I've heard about, doesn't really apply to me. I've never had any problems, with it going out of tune. I'm more than happy, with this purchase. If I had to go back and buy it again, without the open-box discount, I would definitely buy it, full price. It's worth the $$

I owned two Les Pauls back in my youth when my bands were tearing up the 60's in central NY. They were the standard and a custom. Recently retired I wanted to get back to my music. Wish I still had all my old Gear ( Bet you hear that statement often ). But this new tribute 50's Les Paul is the Real Deal. Take it from an old rocker... Buy One, You won't be disappointed.
