OVERVIEW

A rock icon.

The 2016 SG Standard T embodies everything that made the original such a legendary guitar right down to its period-correct knobs. Its solid mahogany body is hand-sprayed in gloss nitrocellulose using a labor-intensive process that is as much about great tone as achieving a great finish. The set mahogany neck is bound with side dot markers for feel and performance.

The neck sports Gibson's classic width that players prefer, and uses a self-lubricating Graph Tech nut for improved sustain and intonation. The rosewood fingerboard is dressed with trapezoid inlays for traditional looks and is thicker than last year's, offering a more solid playing feel. You'll get authentic PAF-like tone and amazing versatility on this year' SG Standard T from dual 490R (neck) and hotter 498T (bridge) humbuckers. In any position they sound amazing.

Chrome hardware includes a tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece, and traditional manual tuners that add a vintage note, but with modern performance. The 2016 SG Standard T comes fully set up and ready to hit the stage right out of its deluxe padded gig bag.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Standard T Electric Guitar:

I'm not sure where to even start. This guitar is simply amazing. It's light, balanced, and comfortable. Tone wise this sg is truly versatile. Good old classic tones to metal. Maybe djent? Probably. I'm in a post hardcore band and this guitar does everything i need it to. It stays in tune very well. I haven't had to make any adjustments on the truss rod or bridge as of yet and I've owned for about 9 months now. I left everything stock on this guitar. I've felt no need to modify this bad boy at all. The pickups are great. The 498t in the bridge is a fantastic pickup and works extremely well with this guitar. I can't speak much to the neck pickup as I really don't use it much for shows. Maybe at home but not live. I actually prefer the gig bag this guitar comes with as apposed to the traditional hard shell case. At least for driving to shows the gig bag takes up less space in the car and keeps the guitar light for carrying. Theck is super comfy. I have small hands and can play it comfortably. I never thought I'd be able to afford a Gibson SG New but now I own one. This guitar is worth every penny and is a true work horse. It will get anything done you need it to. Get one.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Standard T Electric Guitar:

I am normally a huge Les Paul fan, but I can't put this guitar down! I bought the guitar as a the level 3 scratch and dent and it just had a couple little marks on it! This is an awesome guitar. I have owned probably 10 SG's and this one with the 498 pickups is one of my favorites. You cannot go wrong with a Gibson.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Standard T Electric Guitar:

Great quality- found no flaws. Ok pickups, not as full sounding as the Gibson Classics on my Les Paul, but still gets good all- around sounds. Doesn't do the big neck dive I've heard so much about. With the reputation for neck breakage, a hard case would be more secure. The only real gripe I've got is that the jack really holds the cable plug so tightly, its hard to remove without a big yank.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Standard T Electric Guitar:

Seriously... the SG standard? You haven't heard enough about these to where you need to read my review.... dude, hope that rock you lived under was comfy.

So I've been a life long lover of Les Pauls. Who hasn't? I mean really? But the SG is awesome because it's less than half the weight of any of my Les Pauls. I'm so used to ripping my shirts with my bulging biceps picking up Les Pauls, that I save so much money on my wardrobe with the SG.

Just be forewarned, the first time you pick it up, it's so light, that I used the same sleeve tearing force I do for Les Pauls, and threw my SG through my ceiling, that's how light it is. I actually have to put it in the hanger upside down to keep it from floating away.

The sound? Seriously... okay pal, go out and pick up some AC/DC, or some Black Sabbath, or The Doors... and don't download it, you're going to be an SG player... be a man, go to the local record store, and buy a hard copy of so you can smash it over your head in a fit of guitar orgasmic rage when your life suddenly goes from playing Dungeons and Dragons to having orgies with super models backstage. This thing sounds amazing. I plugged it into my amp, and just tuning the guitar up, Led Zepplin said they'd fire Jimmy Page if I would join them.

                  Here's my only real beef.

A gig bag? And not even a great one at that.... I mean this guitar cost more than my first two cars combined. You only give me a gig bag to protect that lean back headstock?! Do you guys have a surplus of necks you're trying to sell when people break theirs?

I mean it's not that much of a beef, I have too many cases as it is. But for someone who this is their first good guitar, it kinda stinks they're going to shell out another 100+ buckeroonies for a case.

And why only two colors. That means I'm only tempted to buy two SG standards. (I'd really like a black one if anyone wants to send me a gift card to buy one, my red one is really sweet, but it was a really hard choice)

I received my SG on 6/14/16 and could not put this guitar down. I played it for 5 straight hours. This is my first Gibson I have bought. I always wanted a Les Paul but just could not afford that much to put in a guitar. I am so happy with this guitar; to me it plays and feels better than a Les Paul. Thank you Gibson for putting such a great guitar out in the market that I could afford. I absolutely love this beast!

Glad I was home when it came. The shipping box left no question as to what was on the porch. Frankly, I was kind of surprised that the Gibson name and a large depiction of the headstock would be so visible. It was well packed, the gig bag is substantial, best I've seem. Would have been much better if it came in a case given the price. The warranty says it has to be filed within 15 days of purchase. Well. it took 7 days to get here. Hope it's not a problem.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Standard T Electric Guitar:

I received my first "Laurel" electric guitar as a birthday present in '71 at age 8. I messed around with it somewhat through and after college, and purchased several better quality guitars later on. They were fun, but I didn't take them too serious. A couple of months ago, a buddy loaned me his '98 SG and it was an eye opener. I had to have my own. After a lot of research, I bought my SG through MF. The set up was perfect!! I am now playing more than I have in the last 10 years, and have the calluses to prove it. Excellent guitar and and Excellent experience through MF! I also recommend the Marshall MG30CFX amp, if you want to rip it up around the house or just jamming with friends.
