OVERVIEW

A more affordable Hummingbird with thin neck profile, L.R. Baggs electronics, special bracing, and more.

Crafted with solid-mahogany back and sides, solid-Sitka spruce top, and one-piece mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, the Hummingbird Pro packs premier tonewoods that mirror those of its predecessor from 1960. A scalloped advanced X-brace, hide-glued dovetail neck joint and bone nut keep it all ringing, rich and resonant, while an L.R. Baggs Element acoustic pickup with endpin jack on the Hummingbird Pro take it all to a bigger audience when you need to plug in and be heard.

Meanwhile, a vintage-sunburst finish in hand-sprayed nitrocellulose lacquer, marquetry back stripe, multi-ply top binding and rosette, split-parallelogram inlays, and double-point tortoiseshell pickguard keep it all looking as sweet and sultry as the vintage Hummingbird that inspired it. All guitars come with a blue-plush-lined Gibson hardshell case, owner’s manual, and Gibson Gold Warranty.

Body and Finish
This big-bodied, square-shouldered dreadnought is built from the classic tonewood combination of Sitka spruce top and mahogany back and sides—all solid woods—with a tonally advantageous advanced X-brace made of scalloped spruce braces supporting the top. All this, and a hand-sprayed nitrocellulose lacquer finish in vintage sunburst, help the Hummingbird Pro echo the great Gibson flat-tops of 50 years ago.

Hardware
The Hummingbird Pro carries the classic hardware accompaniment seen of several legendary Gibson flat-tops. A “belly-up” Indian rosewood bridge and bone saddle keep it all tonally true at the business end, while Grover Rotomatic tuners—a common upgrade of the ’60s—combine a timeless look with outstanding tuning efficiency.

Neck and Headstock
The guitar’s neck and headstock are made in the classic tradition of the original 1960 Hummingbird Pro, with the 25-1/2” scale length that many players prefer in a large-bodied flat-top. Carved from a single piece of quarter-sawn mahogany, and topped with a rosewood fingerboard, the design incorporates Gibson’s lauded 17-degree back-angled headstock, which contributes greatly to the instrument’s resonance and sustain.

History of the Hummingbird
A guitar at the leading edge of the acoustic folk boom of the late ’50s and ’60s, the Hummingbird was also at the forefront of an entirely new breed of flat-top dreadnought for Gibson. Introduced in 1960 by a company long-famous for its "round-shouldered” dreadnoughts such as the J-45 and Southern Jumbo, this big, 16-1/4 in.-wide square-shouldered dreadnought hit the competition straight on, and became an instant classic in the process.

Long a favorite of frontmen and singer-songwriters, equally at home pounding out the rhythm amid a rockin’ electric band or taking the lead in an acoustic context, the Hummingbird has proven surprisingly versatile, and has set the pace at the center of several notable country, rock, blues and folk acts.

Now the Hummingbird Pro, crafted by the luthiers in Gibson’s acoustic facility in Bozeman, MT, carries on the tradition. Designed both as a tribute to this 50-year-old classic, and as a no-nonsense, high-quality acoustic for today’s working musician, the Hummingbird Pro lands at a special price for a solid-wood flat-top of this pedigree.

Comments about Gibson 2017 Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was really on the fence about this acoustic and already had in my mind to return it before I unpacked it.....well thank goodness I did unpack it and gave it a look over and played a few songs and now it's sitting on my guitar stand and I'm in love with everything about this instrument....I guess that makes me a Gibson snob but that's ok ...Hey it is what it is....A great guitar

It quickly became my favorite guitar!

Comments about Gibson 2017 Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I just purchased this guitar. The finish is absolutely beautiful! The top is a beautiful sunburst, and the back and sides and are a really nice dark color that's not quite black. You can still see the natural woodgrain through the finish on the back and sides in the right light, which is exactly how I'd hoped the finish would be.

The sound is amazing! It's a very warm sounding guitar, with great low end, and nice mids with just the right amount of top end that still rings through without sounding too bright. The sound projects too! It's loud unplugged. The action is just right, allowing you to play leads and bend strings easily but not so low that you get string buzz while strumming chords. In fact, my guitar has absolutely no string buzz! It seriously plays like butter! It really meets all my expectations of how I thought this guitar should look, play, and sound. The hardshell case is super nice too! When I looked inside the case compartment, I was surprised to find a pack of Gibson acoustic guitar strings, a Gibson pick, a Gibson sticker, and a cool Gibson leather key chain. Awesome bonus goodies!
