A disctinctive tribute to the guitarist that helped embody the 50 years of the rocking spirit of the SG.

The 50th Anniversary Peter Townshend SG electric guitar captures all the classic ingredients of Gibson's great double-cutaway solidbody model. Like the best SGs of the past 50 years, the 50th Anniversary Pete Townshend SG starts with a solid mahogany body and glued-in mahogany neck, a pairing that ensures ringing sustain, superb tonal depth, and plenty of clarity and richness. The body's thin dimensions make this a pleasurably light guitar to play, while its classically beveled edges also make it comfortable on the forearm. Combine this with a beautifully ergonomic '60s neck profile, and you've got one of the sweetest playing rock machines available today.

Two biting P-90 pickups with Alnico V magnets convey the Townshend SG's sonic spunk to your amp of choice, yielding anything from deep, warm vocal tones in the neck position to endless growl and roar in the bridge, to round and snappy tones in between.

The lightning bar wrapound tailpiece keeps it all rock-solid and resonant, while up at the other end a PLEK-cut Corian nut ensures clean intonation and singing sustain. Top it all off with a set of vintage-style tuners with pearloid buttons, a unique "50 Years" headstock emblem, and a high-gloss nitrocellulose finish in Alpine White, and you've got a spectacular celebration of one of the world's favorite electric guitars, all wrapped up in an instrument you can gig with today.

Each 50th Anniversary Pete Townshend SG includes a Gibson hardshell case with "WHO" bolding stenciled on it, and owner's manual, and is covered by Gibson's Limited Lifetime Warranty and 24/7/365 customer service.

    The SG Story
Way back in 1961 when the SG Standard temporarily replaced the Les Paul Standard in the Gibson line up, few were aware that a future icon of rock guitar was being introduced to the scene. Originally called the "Les Paul/SG", this radical, double-cutaway electric with two dramatic asymmetrical pointed "horns" and a thin all-mahogany body was worlds away from the single-cutaway maple and mahogany Les Paul that it replaced. It proved to have similar power, punch and versatility, but also expressed a voice all its own, one that has grabbed many heavy rock and metal players in particular, alongside countless classic rock and blues artists. By the time the single-cutaway Les Paul returned in the late '60s, the SG Standard was already a legend, and had forever claimed its place in rock history.

          Poor Gibson quality control

Comments about Gibson 50th Anniversary Pete Townshend SG Electric Guitar:

MF asked me to review the purchase; quality control at Gibson should never have let this guitar leave its factory without even a pretend or halfway setup. Intonation was so off on the guitar that I sent it back because I couldn't get a sense of the sound beyond open strumming and didn't want to slip and "damage" the finish, etc. doing it myself. So I sent it back, but I will eventually get an SG with p-90s because I know the sound is great. If I had bought from a small local shop, it probably would have actually been set up, but this is what you get dealing with the big guy, besides good prices. On the plus side, MF paid shipping back.

Comments about Gibson 50th Anniversary Pete Townshend SG Electric Guitar:

This is an excellent guitar, especially if you enjoy the single coil sound. It is lightweight and easy on the shoulder so you can go for hours without putting it down.

Makes me want to jump in the air and do windmills.

I would have given it 5 stars except when it came the bridge pickup screws had come loose and the pickup was hitting the strings, buzzing like crazy. I expect better from Gibson. After a few adjustments and a new B string (snapped as soon as I touched the machine head) I was in Live at Leeds heaven!

                  All hail the power cord!!!

I have owned and played dozens of guitars over the years. This guitar is a great value, I was surprized at the price compared to the standard SG, not much difference for alot more guitar. Great tone and feel, a very nice instrument.

Comments about Gibson 50th Anniversary Pete Townshend SG Electric Guitar:

This thing makes my orange rocker 30 tube amp sound insane and my silvertone 1482 also. I love the fret feel and everything else about it. the only thing that i had to do was to lower the bridge to make it play better otherwise the action was too high out the box.
This is my first new guitar that I have ever owned. I have mostly bought used guitars made by gibson and fender but after 5 years of playing I decided to buy a new guitar with new frets, and let me tell you that this was the best decision that i have ever made beside my orange tube rocker 30. I never liked SG guitars because of the necks location that extends it a couple of inches that makes it seem like the guitar is longer but it really isnt anmore.
Features on this guitar are great, neck feels great ( not to chunky and a great feel to it), p90's sound great, tuners look cool and stay in tune. The color its amazing, i have always wanted a white guitar and i finally got one. The bridge its nice too and keeps the guitar intonated, and i also like the vintage look.
                        Love the case
Could not be happier with the quality. My friend owns a gibson lespaul standard from 2010 and the quality is about the same.
                        Love the price!!
                        Probably my last guitar........Who knows

Comments about Gibson 50th Anniversary Pete Townshend SG Electric Guitar:

Could not have been happier. I usually don't rate things, but I had to make an exception here and let people know of this great deal. If you love P90s, you will just love this guitar. If you don't love P90s, what is wrong with you?!!! I own a ton of guitars, and this one will be one of my front runners for a while. Get'm while they last!
Simple but yet affective. I love the P90 pickups on this guitar. They are very well balanced when switching between the neck and bridge pickup, the neck and frets have a great feel, compensated bridge allows for better intonation of all strings, and the finish is super smooth. This guitar is just creammy.
Top notch quality. I was a little worried that the quality and construction of the guitar was going to suffer due to the price point of this signature series guitar. Not so, the paint job is great, the binding is perfect, the pickups are awesome, the ftretboard is beautiful, and the case is top notch. Pleasantly surprised... would have paid MSRP for this guitar.
Read the above two comments... nothing more to add. Great value. Thanks to gibson, we get a great signature series guitar at a very good price.

Comments about Gibson 50th Anniversary Pete Townshend SG Electric Guitar:

I've played a strat exclusively for nearly 20 years. I am so glad I bought this guitar. While I didn't make a huge jump going from single coil guitar to single coil guitar, I now have so many more tonal options. The sound on this guitar can go from warm and thick to a gnarly twang (though nothing fender like). I really love the resonance and sustain. Notes just last forever and keep developing. I'm not sure how different this model is from other sg models, but i like the how the wrap around tailpiece is set up at the factory, a common post purchase mod I understand.
The lightening bar wrap around tailpiece provides for incredible ringing sustain. Tonal range and volume control provide great versatility in tone.
                        Really nicely made guitar.
Get you get exactly what you are paying for. A really well made guitar ready to be used in any setting right away.
