The Explorer has returned - sharp body, hot pickups, huge sound!

The full-on Gibson Explorer from the mid-80s is back! The body of the Gibson 84 Explorer Reissue Electric Guitar is solid mahogany for a fat and punchy sound, while the dual blazing-hot EMG pickups sizzle and snarl with aggressive authority. The Explorer's radical design not only looks sharp, but it also offers excellent playing balance. Other features include a 22-fret ebony fingerboard with dot inlay, Nashville bridge with stopbar tailpiece, and Grover machine heads. Made in the USA. Gibson is producing a limited run of only 400 of these Explorer electric guitars.

This guitar was the smartest thing Gibson has done in a long time. What a beauty! I opened it up and smiled like a little kid. I have wanted the white explorer with EMGs and no pickguard (I HATE PICKGUARDS - i think they just look stupid) like James Hetfield had during the MoP days. This thing rocks; it's just that simple.I gave it a 0.5 on quality because the genious who set this up prior to shipping over at Gibson comepletely dropped the ball. The neck was bowed because the truss rod was over-wound, the nut was cut too deep on the trebby strings, and the sting saddles were all jacked up. The way it arrived, the high three strings were literally pinned against the becautiful ebony fretboard and the bottom three buzzerd worse than a 200$ Korean-made strat knock-off. I was furious. In the end, after two weeks of warranty labor, they managed to get it set up the way it was supposed to arrive. The tech who let it go out like that should have been fired.Even so, it's a beautiful guitar and I would do it over again in a heartbeat to end up with the one I wanted since I was in high school.

Think twice before buying one of these. Got one first day they came out from Gibson dealer and was very excited. But a couple of days later, the first time I cleaned it the finish was bleeding other colors. Took it back to dealer and they said 8 of 12 they had were going back to Gibson for finish reasons. They gave me another one but overall I regret buying this guitar

    Better than my 2007 model

    By Michael Diamente

This Explorer is the bomb. I got mine for my birthday, and I love it. I've even compared it to my 2007 black Explorer ,and came out on top. Now I know why James Hetfeild and The Edge have one. All i can say is GET THIS GUITAR!!!

    What A Beast !!

I just want to say, I love this guitar ! What a combination, Gibson Explorer with EMGs = HEAVY ! Now, for the one minor problem, though very annoying. As the other axe grinder stated in one of the other reviews, the factory setup on this guitar was absolutly piss poor. Not a major problem, but with the price of a Gibson today, why can't they make certain that every guitar is spot on perfect before it leaves the factory. I'm not a famous musician, so I'm not made of money. I work hard for all my gear and when I lay out a good piece of cash for a guitar, there is no reason it shouldn't be perfect. At least get the setup in the ballpark. I have many guitars, alot of them Gibsons, and this one had the worst setup I've ever seen, from the neck to the bridge. Come on Gibson. After a proper setup, I now love the guitar. Rock on....

    Gibson Explorer 84 Reissue

    By Steve-0S0Rv

I just go my Gibson explorer yesterday. It may be somewhat heavy but it is the best guitar I own and one of the best ive ever played. The EMGs are awesome. This guitar is great for metal, rock, jazz, or pretty much any music you want to play. Great Guitar!

    A thing of beauty......

    By Moddawg420

I recently just acquired a used Gibson Explorer... I was blown away at how easily the guitar plays!!! It practically enhanced my abilities just by being able to get around the fret board much more easily. I'm used to B.C. Rich's and Ibanez's when it comes to my metal projects, but this Explorer is an exceptional guitar!!! I can't put it down! Now I know why James Hetfield and many of my other influences played this model guitar... it's simply bad-a**!!!!!!! !..!(-_0)

The guitar is all in all awesome

    By kirakirk

    from Sacramento

As for the guitar itself, it is made to rock. Any amp, any rig set-up. I run this guitar through a Triple Rect hlf-stack with only 215 graphic eq and a rack noise gate at the fx loop and that's it. No pedal chain whatsoever. I'm so used to alder bodies that I forget the awesome and sweet solid sound of mahogany. This guitar stole my heart right before my first four guitars. I would definitely keep this for life. Thanks Gibson for the re-issue

    84 Explorer

    By EX24

    from kansas

When i received my explorer i was very disappointed with the workmanship. The finish was rough, it had a bunch of marks like someone was tapping on it with a blue ink pen. Playability of the guitar is very nice, super fast neck and fretboard. Balance you can only get with an explorer.
