In my experience, this guitar has been amazing, I have owned it for one year and will own it until I die. I am very impressed by the balanced sound that it produces. No other guitar has matched it in that fact. The highs, mids, and lows all blend together perfect and I can tell a difference in this guitar and others I have owned in that respect. It excels in many genres that I play. It is great for country, gospel, blues, and folk style music. It is an exceptional guitar.
I feel that this guitar has great features. It has beautiful inlays on the neck as well as on the headstock. The white binding really makes the sunburst top shine. The action of the guitar is very playable; it is not too high to play easily and also not so low that you can't tune down a bit and still have no fret buzz. However, it is not equipped with a pickup and that has become essential when playing live.
The guitar is high quality. It is American made, built with very beautiful wood, and had no blemishes whatsoever when I purchased the guitar. It is also holding up very well to the normal abuse of performing. Very great craftmanship from Gibson.
This guitar is a great value. The price may seem a bit high but when you play this acoustic you can definately see that the price is justified. The joy of playing this guitar is no doubt worth paying a higher price for.

No ebony on this guitar, as Gibson opts for rosewood fingerboard & bridge. Has stronger mid/hi range. More jangly. Poor set-up out of the case, but easy to adjust. Just be sure you will have some adjustment left in the saddle. You experienced acoustic owners will know what I mean. I was really impressed with the playability of this guitar & feel it would be excellant choice for a mainly electric guitarist. It does not sound like a Martin but I'm glad because I own a Martin. OK, so my only complaints are poor set-up from factory & cheap tuners, at this price Waverlys are expected, not cheap Gotohs.

I build these

Comments about Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar:

I work at the Gibson acoustic plant in Montana. This is by far the best sounding and most consistent guitar we build. I work in inspection, so I play all guitars that come out of the plant. Every time I play one of these, I wish I had one at home waiting for me. If you buy one, you won't be disappointed.

Comments about Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar:

I ,was so suprised at this guitar I have owned about 10 different acoustics 2 Breedloves , 2 Martins, Ibanez, a Taylor a Guild, etc., by far this exceeds them all of all my other guitars I still really admire my Taylor. But the high and low end brovado of this AJ out does them all real easy action.Mind you though I paid twice what I paid for all the other axes I own. but I cannot stress how well worth it was. I been playing 45 years and I doubt Iwill ever need to buy another.

Comments about Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar:

You really can't "compare" this guitar to any other. The size, the rosewood, the neck size and width, when you're finished looking for something exactly the same you won't find it. This guitar takes some time to open up. You may not be knocked over the first time you hear it, but you will know there is something "under the covers". Please listen to this and all acoustic guitars by getting someone else to play it and you stand ten feet away. With the AJ you can keep moving back and can still feel the sound waves hit your body. I kid you not. The AJ can lay back, but when you dig in the volume will move you. Gibson Montana take special pride in this instrument. They know it is different and a great value.

Gibson Masterpiece

By sanQ

Comments about Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar:

I bought this guitar in 2005. I loved the way it looked and I wanted a Gibson all of my life. I looked high and low looking at all the different kinds of Gibsons out there. I never actually played one before I bought it. I ordered it and it came in and my father picked it up from the music store and all the guys who worked there were coming up to him and saying 'You are a lucky man.' This guitar had players drooling. People who try this guitar think it is the best they have ever played. It truly is a masterpiece. It looks fantastic, plays fantastic, and sounds fantastic. It is loud too! I have only played one other guitar better than this one and it was an old Martin that I played in Stockholm. But for a new instrument, this can't be beat. It is a little on the large side though as the neck is longer and it took some getting used to before I was comfortable with it like my other acoustics. Once you are used to that, it's a dream. I'm so happy with this guitar and when I look at it I am so happy! Thank you Gibson for making me a great one!

Another Texas Plunker...

By Scottman-p9c4v

Comments about Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar:

I'm in Houston, and I just bought an AJ at my now-favorite music store, just this morning. Didn't know anything about them when I went in, compared it against a Martin HD-28, D-16, and several other Gibsons. I'm not wild about sunburst finishes either, but I'm learning to love this one. Beautiful appointments, and a killer sound for country/blues finger and flat picking. What a value. I couldn't have chosen better within that budget range.

The best high end guitar under 3K

By Dr. V-eIdxY

Comments about Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar:

Gibson and its low price subsidiary Epiphone make several models with their signature sunburst top. Don't be fooled, they are NOT all equal. The Gibson J-45 is probably the most famous and popular of these models and is a fine guitar. The primary difference between the J-45 and the Advanced Jumbo is that the AJ has rosewood back and sides compared to mahogany for the J-45. This gives the AJ a much richer sound and the bottom end of a Martin while retaining the shimmering highs for which Gibson is best known. The guitar looks as beautiful as it sounds too. I know some people complain about the Gotoh tuners, but they have performed perfectly for me and my local luthier says they're fine. This is a rare guitar and harder to find than most Gibsons. If you don't believe me you can watch Steve Earle play "Folsom Prison Blues" with his AJ on YouTube!

Comments about Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar:

I don't have nearly enough money to afford an axe like this one. It's very beautiful in both sound and appearance, and I bet you all that it is one of Gibson's finest models. I played one in the Guitar Center in Portage, Michigan, and I could NOT believe the looks, tone and feel of it. I have said several times that I want to own an Advanced Jumbo as soon as I have at least twelve songs written for acoustic guitar.

Comments about Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar:

Overall this is a fine guitar.Due to its unique sound it is definitely a keeper.
Its a very well built acoustic .It is also lighter than the other guitars I own hd28-j185.I'm not crazy about the sunburst finish on acoustic guitars. But it looks really good on this one.And the gotoh tuners work fine . I especially like the arrow markers on the fret board.
I gave it an eight because of the light weight of the guitar. It seems to make it feel very delicate. But thats just my opinion.
The sound of this guitar is excellent. You feel like its amplified. It doesn't take much to get it going. My only complaint is the finish on this guitar has a tendency to feel sticky when your playing.I try to wear a long sleeve shirt .Or something to protect the the finish.

Most Resonant Acoustic, Ever!

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar:

I've owned and played a lot of acoustic guitars over the years, and this is absolutely the very best. I conducted a blind-fold "taste test" with a group of fellow acoustic musicians, and each an every one picked the Advanced Jumbo as the best sounding. Over Martin's very best (D-28, D-35, D-40 (or was it a D-41?) & D-45). None of the Martins had the tone, clarity, volume, resonance or sustain. The Advanced Jumbo was better. Period. And because of the slope shoulders, more comfortable to hold and play, too. I notice someone gave the guitar low marks for set-up out of the box. Well, as an acoustic guitar player for 30 years now, I've never played a new acoustic guitar that didn't need a set-up out of the box. This goes for every new Gibson, Martin, Taylor, Ovation, Guild, etc. that I've ever played. I think most experienced acoustic players know what I'm talking about.

my six-string orchestra!

Comments about Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar:

After buying, selling, trading, building, repairing, and finally PLAYING a seemingly endless array of acoustic and electric guitars in my lifetime, the Gibson Advanced Jumbo is the crowning glory of my collection! The sound and feel is outstanding! Simply close your eyes and listen. It is sublime! And you can take my word for it. It can handle anything that you or I can play! (I thought I heard it say "is that all you've got?" after my last rousing chorus of dueling banjos!)Currently, I own 7 Martins from the 50's & 60's, several Gibson archtops from the 30's & 40's, and many other great guitars. I compare the neck and action to my 1979 Gibson Super-V! And the sound to my 1968 D-45. I also own an original 1938 Jumbo and you cannot tell them apart with your eyes closed! This guitar is well worth the money! Nice job on this one, Gibson.

Absolutely the best Gibson acoustic

By RNL

from beverly hills, california

Comments about Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar:

If you've read all the reviews for this guitar, you have better noticed the trend - It is by far Gibson's most outstanding acoustic. This guitar blows a Martin D28 away, no joke! It sounds as good as it looks. In my opinion, Martin's emphasis is on the low-end; Taylor's on the high-end; and 'Gibson Acoustics' focus in both areas, producing an exceptionally beautiful balanced tone throughout the whole acoustic range that cannot be mimiced by any other guitar (the reason why I choose Gibson over Martin's). Bass is sufficient and not too boomy like a Martin; high's don't sparkle like Takamine's or Taylor's, but yet sing very clearly w/ tremendous volume and sustain. This guitar is the most responsive acoustic guitar I've ever played. Strum A Major chord, and this alone will depict the advantages this guitar has over other guitars in its price range. It's true what they say - "This guitar is a canon!" I don't even know what the "Martin" sound is like anymore, seriously! Play this Gibson, and you'll know what I mean.

My favorite guitar

Comments about Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar:

My Advanced Jumbo is from December 2008. I bought it in August 2009, so I've had it almost a year. It was a little stiff sounding at first, but getting played as much as it does, it's really woken up. In 40 years of playing and owning (and selling) untold dozens of Gibson and Fender guitars, including several sought-after vintage pieces, the Gibson Advanced Jumbo is one of my favorite guitars of all of them, if not my all-time favorite. I gig often, both electric and acoustic gigs, and I play better on the AJ than any other guitar I own. It's great for fingerpicking, flatpicking, single note soloing. I can rip on the AJ as if I was tearing it up on a Telecaster. In a way, it's the Telecaster of acoustic guitars?very direct, in your face tone, not too bassy, with just the perfect amount of mids and treble. It works very well in a band mix. I have a custom shop J-45 Adi/Bubinga that has a sweeter tone, but for gigging, the AJ is IT! Highly recommended.

Comments about Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar:

I have a Martin HD-28 a Yamaha LW-25 a Larivee OM 3 Koa all premium axes that do it. I also have Gibson L-140 and a Gibson J 45 Rosewood. I am ok with the L-140, but adore my J45R. So why buy an Advance Jumbo? Because after owning several Taylors and not keeping one, a couple of Martins and keeping one. I just feel right with a Gibson in my hand, love the tone ,feel and playability. They need help in the set up, but after that look out! I still love my J-45R but the AJ is what I will pull out to show off. It doesn't get any better then saying "I play a Gibson"
