OVERVIEW

As close to an original '58 as you can get.

The 1958 Gibson Les Paul Standard Plain Top VOS guitar begins with a solid mahogany back and carved plain maple top. The one-piece mahogany neck is topped with a gorgeous rosewood fretboard that's adorned with acrylic trapezoid inlays with shape and color true to the original. Early '50s rounded neck profile delivers the vintage feel players love. BurstBucker 1 and 2 pickups deliver famous vintage Les Paul tone.

In an effort to jump start the steadily declining sales of the Les Paul model, Gibson abandoned the familiar gold finish and used a translucent, cherry sunburst finish which showed off the figured maple tops that were often used on Les Pauls. The renamed Les Paul Standard made its debut in 1958.

Vintage Original Spec series instruments receive a special nitro-cellulose finish treatment yielding the patina of a gently-aged vintage guitar while handcrafting enhances comfort and playability. Each VOS model has a solid mahogany back; historically accurate long-neck tenon for strength and sustain; and period-correct neck profile, hardware, and electronics.

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Plain Top VOS Electric Guitar:

Okay, I have been an avid fan of the Epiphone Les Paul. Always thought they were phenomenally crafted at a good price. Still feel the same about them, however, after playing the real deal, at least this model, I can honestly see, feel, hear an enormous difference in sound and quality. The craftsmanship is unmatched..playability is unreal.. I think I got lucky and found one that really fit and played to my ultimate liking...they are truly the creme de la creme of guitars... and worth the extra if you can pull it off... at least for me.
What sets this apart from the Epiphone model is higher quality electronics. Definitely can hear the difference. Other than that pretty much the same standard les paul features.
Top quality instrument. You can tell just by playing it. Compare it to other Les Paul's and you can definitely feel and hear the difference.
Okay, this is a little hard to rate. How much of an investment are you willing or can you make. It was absolutely worth the extra for me.

It's not just a guitar - it's a lady

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Plain Top VOS Electric Guitar:

The Gibson Les Paul 1958 VOS is the best guitar I've ever owned. Every single note, that is played on this great instrument, sounds absolute powerful and great. The playability is great (In my opinion) because I love the thick, round neck- the guitar feels fantastic. One of the things I love about this guitar, is the difference between the two humbucker... when you select the pickups with the toggle switch, it's not a huge sound step... it dosn't sound like a complete diffrent guitar. It's the perfect guitar for Blues and Rock till Hard Rock - greetings from Germany and sorry for my simpel english.

Gibson 58

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Plain Top VOS Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar a little less then a year ago, and it's really a great guitar. I love the look of it, and the feel of it, but one thing is just the huge neck, sometimes I like it, but other times when I'm trying to shred, it kind of bugs me. But I've come the realization that people need to stop worrying about how big the neck is or how big the frets are and just play because sometimes I can shred like no other on this guitar, and I've seen other people do it too, so it's all just matter of opinion. But other then that, it's a great sounding guitar, really heavy and everything, you can tell just by looking at it that it's a quality guitar.

Gibson Custom Shop 1958 Les Paul Standard Plain To

By Preston-PwNL-

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Plain Top VOS Electric Guitar:

I tried this because i want a Slash Jimmy Pageish guitar. I didnt wanna pay 2K more for a 59', so i decided to look at this baby. The neck is HUGE, so unless your a not blues/jazz/rytheme player (there the best), or your worried about playing 10000 notes a minute (there bad), then this isnt the guitar for you. But like i said its perfect for blues guitarists. This is a pretty heavy guitar hence its non-wieght relieved. I played it out of a JIMI Hendrix Marshall and a Mesa Boogie Rect-o-verb. The mesa ROCKED! I loved it, it got heavy, but cleaned up amaizing. Im ordering it in 5 days.

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Plain Top VOS Electric Guitar:

I don't own this guitar, but I do play it at my local guitar center. Let me tell you, this guitar is probably one of if not the best guitar gibson has ever made. When you plug it into a Marshall plexi, it sounds amazing with the deep end and the tick and beefy notes it plays.

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Plain Top VOS Electric Guitar:

I'm sure that this is the most fantastic guitar I ever played. The first time I saw it in a store I minded it was the right guitar for me! And WOW! When I plugged it in a 1959HX from Marshall (the Plexi), and when I touch the strings I realized that I have to buy it.Guys: IT WORTH EVERY PENNY! Wow, for weeks I've been amazed by the sound and the vint look of this marvellous guitar. If you're worried 'bout the fact it has no Flamed Top... Guy... Nevermind it! The Plain Top has more of the vintage look of the VOS Series...

I play weekly with friends, sure it's a little more expensive than I would normally spend but it
is fantastic and worth every cent. It's a forever guitar I nearly bought the Nashville Black Beauty, I'm glad I didn't. I use an Orange Ad 50 head and it cranks it out. The guitar is Well balanced, great tone and pleasure to play. I recommend this guitar with hesitation

This is my 4th Les Paul and all I can say is "This is the one" Love the feel, the bigger neck and the tone - wow.No matter what I play it through, my Twin Reverb or my Marshall JCM 800, sounds incredible. Ifeel bad about my Traditional Pro and Goldtop because they just sit in the case now, the 58R8 gets all my attention

      1958 Gibson Les Paul

      By LP fanatic

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Plain Top VOS Electric Guitar:

I always wanted a gibson 1959 les paul but 5grand was out of my price range. So i was just going to get a les paul standard but was a bit disappointed with the new standard's because there chambered and it just didn't sound the same. So i decided to save up a few more bucks and get the 1958 les paul which sounds just the same as the 59 and is 2grand cheaper and if you don't think the plan top looks as nice as the flame top don't worry it looks alot better when you see it up close then in the pics. And the guitar just has that vintage tone and i don't mean a nice lovly clean tone though it sounds great clean I mean it has a great rock tone i wanted that Jimmy Page type classic rock tone and this guitar has it. But i do suggest that you have a good amp let's face it an expensive guitar won't sound good though a cheap amp i play it though a marshall and it sounds great.

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Plain Top VOS Electric Guitar:

This guitar is amazing. Just like the 59 vos but without the flame top. It sounds just as good an is about 2k cheaper. Right off the bat it looks just like a vintage that was kept in a vault. The burstbuckers 1s and 2s blow all other gibson pickups out of the water. The neck on the guitar is absolutly amazing. Going to buy one as soon as i can. If you get the chance play it through a marshall handwired and you will be blown away with pure classic rock sound.

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Plain Top VOS Electric Guitar:

Wow, this is an absolutely amazing guitar from its gorgeous looks, great tone, and awesome playability. The two burstbucker pickups combined together in one guitar give you any sound you could imagine. Everyday, I can't wait to come home from school to play this guitar, its amazing. By using the rhythm pickup, with a clean tone you can get a nice, bassy and warm blues tone. But when your ready to rock, crank up the distortion and switch to your treble pickup, because it will allow for some thrashing, crisp, clear, and distinct tones. At first I was a little bit skeptical of a guitar with a fat neck, but now that I am used to it I wouldn't use any other neck. The larger size of the neck gives you something substantial to hold on too, making it really easy to play. And the worn VOS finish really does a great job replicating a vingage les paul. My only complaint is that this guitar is extremely expensive, but I must say it is well worth it. This is the same guitar used by countless other famous guitarists, such as Jimmy Page, Slash, and Eric Clapton. Now, stop reading this huge review, when you could be ordering this guitar and playing your way to heaven!

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Plain Top VOS Electric Guitar:

This is my 3rd Les Paul and it is different than the others, and unique in its own way. I love the way it sounds and feels. Its a little lighter than my fretless wonder custom. I bought it to be a player as the other Les Paul has become to precious to me to leave the house. It is just a great guitar - I really don't know any other way to say it. I'm still bonding with it, I'm sure we will become old friends real soon. Good luck and Buy one.

      Unbelievable!

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Plain Top VOS Electric Guitar:

I was in the market for a new guitar, and I knew I wanted a Gibson. I looked at SG's, the double neck, firebirds, electric spanish, and numerous Les Paul models. I picked up this guitar and, at that moment, my mind was officially blown. Sporting Gibson Burstbucker pickups and the most comfortable neck I've ever felt, this guitar tops everything else. In any price range. Period. I plugged this into a VOX valvetronix (you may like Marshall, but I love my VOX) and this guitar screamed classic rock, very Led Zeppelin(Jimmy Page happened to play one of these, by the way). Clean or distorted, this guitar rocks! I was also astonished with it's playability. Movement up and down the neck (as well as trills and hammer-ons) are effortless! It goes without saying that this rock 'n roll machine out of Gibson's custom shop was flawlessly crafted and is of the highest quality. Like any Les Paul, its value will increase dramatically over time (it takes 7 years for the wood to cure, so it will sound better as it ages)! The only con, a minor one, is the metal indicators under the knobs are sharp and can poke you if you aren't careful, but you can take them off or just get used to them.In conclusion, YES, this guitar is well worth 3 grand. Everyone who love rock 'n roll owes it to themselves to get this guitar. ONLY A GIBSON IS GOOD ENOUGH!

      The Best!!

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Plain Top VOS Electric Guitar:

The Gibson Les Paul 58 re-issue guitar is the best Guitar i have ever played in my life! It gives you the tone quality that is great for rock and blues and it feels good in your hands. I heard the guitar has a 7 year period for the wood to completely cure so in other words it sounds better the longer you have it. I used this guitar through a VOX amp half stack at a store and either that or a Marshall amp would make the best combination, but this guitar sounds good no matter what you use it through. If you get a chance to try this guitar do not miss it! This is a wonderful guitar and great for everyone that is a serious guitar player.

This is a great guitar. The sound and features is just absolutely great. It have a classic, thick 50's neck, which give the guitar a very fat and nice sound. The only negative thing to mention is that sometimes it goes very quickly out of tune.

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Plain Top VOS Electric Guitar:

OK...First and foremost, let's get one thing straight the flame top has nothing to do with the tone the guitar makes. I own one of these bada** killer monster tone making machines. The plain top actually gives it mor of a vintage vibe and with the added ageing process this bada** is just ALIVE. I've played the 59 and the 60 and for 2bones less and without the flame the 58 overall stands alone in the VOS line of guitars that gibson makes.I'm sure a musician with good ears can agree with the rest of us....Les paul forever...BELEIVE ME THIS GUITAR IS ALIVE right out of the box..thumbs up GIBSON....FInally got this one dead on.....
